Have they confirmed how the boss kill races work yet? While the obvious way is how everyone is interpreting, it's also possible it works slightly differently especially considering GGG needed "new tech."
After all, knowing when players killed bosses after the start of the race isn't new tech. They already had it-that's how people got first Hillock/etc.
Some people think it may be something like timing how long from boss "spawn" or aggro until boss defeat. I think this would be monumentally stupid, but considering everything else GGG did with this season of races...I wouldn't put it past them.
Nevermind, qarl confirmed it's the obvious way. Dunno how that used new tech.
Reviewing more, 0 race types this season where people can actually die. Lets make maphacking better than ever before by removing all reflexes and skill!

My gut says no it's too useless but who knows.
Lightning Tendrils replaced Spark from Enemy at the Gate, which was the best single-target for Witch. Now you can only get it from Mercy Mission so no muling Nova and getting Spark until doing Medicine Chest. Possibly a big change, actually, as Spark made Hailrake much easier.

Ah yiss point system is out and there's almost no change. Rip Peacock BoR dream. Guess they aren't too happy with some ppl each racked up 2000+ points in total previous seasons.

It's not explicitly against the current rules (which many would have issue with). My roommate and I both play and race. If we do these races at different times so that we can watch and learn/help each other how can that be differentiated between the same person running the race on two different accounts? Did you even read my post? It's not against the rules to do it on multiple accounts so that might work and I don't think that would be an issue. But if the race timer only starts in the beginning then you have not only no chances of winning with your second/third etc. account but probably won't get any points/lowest bracket. We don't know how it works right now. On October 24 2014 05:45 Blitzkrieg0 wrote: When I wrote that I meant that you could get another attempt on the same account. For instance, lets say you're pushing too hard and die. In any other race you'd have absolutely no chance at winning, but if the timer is based on your character creation then you can just try again. If this isn't how it works then I'll be very disappointed.
Is doing it on multiple accounts a problem? If a limited number of attempts per event existed I would agree, but if you want to grind multiple alt art items then that is your business. I'm sure people already run races on multiple accounts to get the easy breakpoint on all of them. Again, multiple accounts is not a problem. On the same account I personally see the problem that one could try and race one char, delivers a good time, creates the next char, races, creates the next char and so forth to get the best possible time due to more attempts. That is, if the timer is based on the char creation. That's why I personally don't see it coming this way. But I may be wrong. If these are party races then it can't work the way I imagine. The winner would just be able to party and TP immediately to the nests, brutus, and then merveil to get the fastest kills ever. They could just freeze your character after killing the boss. I don't think that would be much of a problem. Say we have a team of four people (A, B, C, D). A runs to merveil and sets up a TP at the boss. B runs to brutus and sets up a TP at the boss. C runs to mud flats and sets up a TP. Now D creates a character with a fresh timer and kills merveil in record speed because every skippable portion is skipped. The more I think about it the way I want it to work doesn't make sense If partying is allowed then the timer has to be from race start rather than character creation.
Oh got it.

I'd rather they just forget the 1% of racers that get sick points, and just make the cool items available to everyone. I'm pretty sure most of those people at the top just enjoy racing, and don't need the entire season shaped around them to stop them from getting too many points. Besides, aren't the demigod items supposed to be catering to those people?
Demigods suck in that regard. They just stockpile on accounts of top racers. It's not a real reward for them. I don't think one should forget the top racers because these people are what makes racing. It's competetive. If you drop the people that are most competetive what is the point? I'm not a top racer by any means, so I don't fall into this category. But people these days have to (re-)learn that they can't have everything. If some of those race items are out of reach for most people then that is a good thing for two reasons: 1. It enhances the value for those that work hard to get them. 2. If someone really wants to get them he has to work hard to get better which is the purpose of competition.
@destiny: I don't think anyone will reach 2k points this season if the point brackets stay the same. After all, this season is 2 weeks shorter - 4 instead of 6.

I agree. I think the competetive department (racing and pvp) are the only areas where GGG is lacking vision. They had really good base ideas for them (like with the rest of the game) but they can't seem to find a way to adress the issues in these modes. With PvP they have now shown how they might be able to handle it: By inviting Greendude. It might be a good idea for racing to actually start an in depth discussion about what needs to be changed. The current race forums are a bit like hell: Full of immature hate from the community and lack of presence from GGG.

Nobody deserves hate. But I guess it is to be expected. GGG doesn't do anything here to help the situation, so I can't and won't defend them. The issue however is on either side atm. It's just throwing back the ball at each other for a long time now. It's sad because there is so much that could be done about it.

Hmmm the signature races only offering fencoils for RNG winners is pretty meh too
E: apparently the RNG rewards are going to "rotate" :/

Made lvl 31 1/2. Once again realized how terrible I am in normal races, RIP Descent.
3rd Mara at #38. Goratha was once again by far the best Mara with lvl 36. A little surprised I got 3rd, but apparently Maras did the worst out of all classes and perhaps that's why none likes racing with them.
I think I won't play signature races anymore, but who knows what I do when I'm bored. Endless Ledge is probably the only race that is interesting to me.

So the boss kill races are like I expected them to be: Time starts on race start. If you start 2 hours late then your time is 2hours+time for boss kill. They are solo races.
I'm going to participate in the upcoming 1 hr endless ledge for my first race this season. Will see how it goes after such a long hiatus.

Died 6 min in at the EL race you mentioned, shortly after Zoroxo died. Well, I'm just racing for fun/demi so if I die, I don't bother retrying. Not interested in any of the <500 point rewards and not enough determination to get the others.
The map I died in had Undying Alchemists, Avian Retches as well as the frost nova Elementals that kept slowing me. I died near a speed totem with half screen full of mobs, including blue ones.

Did they up the XP you get from mobs? I played slow as fuck but somehow reached lvl 24,5. The ranking is so increased to last season and #1 reached lvl 32, which is like ~4 lvl higher than amazing runs in last season. What's up with that?

A much, much better Shadow tree probably.

Going to take a dive into this game. I'm interested in starting some kind of ice build. Any tips for a beginner? :X

Nah, a better tree doesn't do THAT much. There are also templars in the top20. Pam reached 31 with a templar. I was also only 9th marauder with 24,5. Last season it would have been third or second marauder if not first depending on who participated. And as said, I played slow as fuck but I can't remember reaching lvl 24 more than once last season, even if I played fast for my means.

Ice got a decent buff with the last big update. You might want to start with shadow, witch or templar for a caster build and ranger for a bow build. Freezing Pulse and Ice Spear are both beginner friendly imho and so is Ice Shot. You may look up the class forums on the official forums to find some build guides to get into. Note that it is important to try and understand why are they spec this way to learn how to do it yourself. I for one would always recommend to just take a look at guides and skill trees to see how they work or get inspiration an then try for yourself. You will fail a lot in the beginning but it will make you understand this game, which is very satisfying in PoE. But it's on you if you can stand failing a lot or not.
General advice:
- play at your pace, maybe start with softcore (if you intend to play hc at some point) to learn the enemies/bosses - stacking up resistances and some life greatly enhance your chance of survival. Trying to get the cap on all ele res is recommended and doable by just using gear. - look up vendor recipes on the wiki, they help a lot (http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Vendor_recipes); you can create nice leveling items or turn seemingly crap into useful orbs. - town portals are your friend - if you have any questions along your road, just feel free and post them here; there are a lot of helpful and very knowledgable people here

Since the last EL series:
-Health flasks buffed -Life/level buffed -Mana costs lowered across the board -Monster resistances virtually removed -EK much better for racing -Shadow/Witch tree buffed
All of these result in much better clears for spell-casting classes (which is why Duelist is at about the same as last season).

It does much though, compare it with the one before. Shadow tree went from the worst (imo) to the best starting point. I've played many shadows in the last league because of that.
Personally, I reached lvl 24 1/2 while dying 4 min before the end of the EL before this one, being 3rd Mara at that time. I would've reached like 25 1/2 I guess. But at that race lvl 24 1/2 was enough for 5th Mara still.
Also, I believe Ice Nova got buffed a bit, though apparently just at high level? Else... hmm... maybe some monster nerfs I don't remember, like no huge packs of Alchemists anymore etc. Anyway, Mara is pretty bad at racing in comparison to Ice Nova / Fire Trap Templar/Shadow/Witch and if they find Flameblast (unlikely, but possible) it's even worse.
It's also worse compared to Duelist, since their attack speed nodes are better and those are most important, especially when you have Leap Slam available in non-EL-races.
EDIT: TheTenthDoc summed things up nicely. I think getting a demi was Mara will be doable though. Not many people like to play a worse class, and as such, some races have almost no good Maras playing...
