(this one: Completed Witch Life based FP ) Let me know what changes I should make :S Here is what I am thinking now for a final build given some of the feedback thus far: New plan, 106 pointsFirst thing I will do is switch from cast speed at the beginning of the witch tree over to spell damage, I'm not sure why the guide I was following had cast speed over damage, but from the feedback I have gotten it seems spell damage is better on most accounts. Then I will grab the remaining life on the left side of the tree (Discipline and Training and Athleticism), followed by going down near witch starting area to grab the +life+mana (heart and soul) and also grabbing Deep Wisdom. I think that is the best plan for the near future but after that I'm not sure which areas to branch too first, I will probably just go by what I feel I need, whether that is more survivability/utility/damage (where I would go towards Blood Siphon/Whispers of Doom/Heart of Ice respectively). Power charges won't be need until later, when I manage to get a 5L I think. I changed up my FP gem links per the advice I recieved and removed pcoc and icd and replaced them with spell echo and cold penetration, making my current 4L setup [Freezing Pulse(10% quality) + Lesser Multiple Projectiles + Spell Echo + Cold Penetration]. With a 5L I will add back the Power Charge on Critical Strike and with a 6L Increased Critical Damage (12% quality). I am not sure how many points I could theoretically have/am too lazy to check, but once I hit my 'New Plan, 106 points' build I would probably dump the remaining points into either critical chance/multiplier (grabbing Arcane Potency, getting Throatseeker, and lastly finishing the Doom Cast circle) or working my way to Breathe of Rime first and then getting those. Which do you guys think would be best? Gear Plans:As I mentioned before I really want to get armor, so going forward I will focus on armor/es hybrid gear to try and get my physical resistance to be at least a bit better than it is currently, because I currently feel like physical damage hits me for insane amounts. If I feel I need more armor and some extra elemental resist along the way I can grab the es/armor/res node with 3 more links on the left side of the tree by getting Faith and Steel. I am going to try to make due with what I have now and spend a minimal amount on gear until I hit 60s per recommendation. Now, after having said all that, lets hope I don't RIP :D
I suggest to drop sniper node and get quality freezing pulse instead. It gives 3% projectile speed per 1% quality which is huge. Also if you going Life based, then ES is irrelevant. Why don't you rather pick up blockshield nodes more to the left with elemental resistances instead of those you have with ES from shield. This will allow you to neglect resist on some of your gear as you get 22% to all elemental resistances together with 8% block chance. I am not sure how good is to have ES on a life based build but it seems i am out of ES all the time anyways, so the only reliable is life.

If someone can invite me to TL guild - Character name: Ricjiina Maybe you could post your tree and what you are up to. 2,5 k life at act 2 merciless sounds like you either havn't picked enough life nodes or don't have enough life on gear (or both). I am not at home so i can not post the tree, but my question was towards general mechanics what people use to defend with as a witch. I can think of some options, but can't really decide what is the good way to go: - CI or not (good items for CI are more expensive to obtain, dream fragments and chayula are a must + RESPEC from life) - Evasion (many nodes to take for it to be effective and still die if get hit) - Block chance nodes + spell block - Acrobatics (too many points on tree to get there including spell dodge. Also -50% ES not viable with CI) - Cloak of defiance (can't run many auras) - CWDT? What setup Looking for general good tips on defense with a witch. My friend is using warlord's mark for life leech which is great. I just don't like the fact that it is too unreliable - can not use on curse immune mobs. Your health seems pretty small. Do you have (high) life rolls on almost all of your gear? Some things you can add to any build are endurance charges (enduring cry), granite/jade flasks, CWDT with some combination of molten shell, immortal call, etc etc
I have shitty gear as it is my first character in Beyond. I got some upgrades and i am at 3K life and capped resists now, starting act 3 Merc. Going towards high block chance, Granite flask and using warlord's mark for some life leech and endurance charges. Arctic armour level 7, but going for more mana regen to level it up soon. Also using summon skeleton totem as meat shield. Crit chance at 35% with 290% crit damage. DPS at 3200 with herald of ice at the moment.
The biggest problem is life degen auras beyond monsters and devourer packs (those fuckers even have cold resist mode).

Good to hear as i feel very uncomfortable with this much life. I used to have around 6K life or ES in invasion for high maps and still could die easily if i lost focus for a momet. I assume you have life leech though as i won't believe you can run maps comfortably with 3,9k life. At least not with over-defensive character. I am still working on obtaining my flasks as i am not going to spend all my alts on crafting these things at this moment.

My character name: Ricjiina (lvl 62 Beyond at the moment) Of course I use LoH as a meele. As a ranged (which I suppose you are) you need to position yourself well and with the new pots you see alot of caster running without lifeleech. If you desire Lifeleech maybe work it into your link or rely on WarlodsMark, then again you will drop damage for sustain. I would consider using double or tri curses if i'd rely on curses only to sustain my life.
PS: tell me about flask alt'ing ... still haven't rolled my surgeons ruby of warding ...

@bluQ: The goal is to get 5 link chest, so i can link my freezing pulse with life leech (preferably quality gem for faster rate). Before i get that, i have to rely on warlord's mark. I am not going into double curse as i don't like casting curses all the time especially if i had to cast 2. What i am worried later in the game is elemental reflect as with high crit i might crit myself. So far i was thiking going purity of ice for additional 4% ice resistance. Do you have any other good suggestions agaisnt reflect mobs? Yeah, also thiking about using ice spear totem later on. Does the reflect kill totems?
@r.Evo: Thanks for the invite, i will accept tonight when i get home.

Life leech and sapphire flasks should suffice, if u can ice purity is good as well, just dont stack too much crit multiplier be wary of double reflect (reflect mod in reflect map) and u shld be fine.

@r.Evo: Thanks for the invite, i will accept tonight when i get home. Well reflect is kinda predictable and you can work around it. (you may not want to play reflect maps). If you go for GMP FP you will have major problems with Lightning Thorns don't forget about them!!

I am having second thoughts of perhaps skilling a bit less into crit and more into freeze chance (by Breathe of Rime and Fingers of Frost paths). This would make it so that I am not relying on critical strikes to freeze, but then if I were to skill into crits I would maybe overall have a better %chance of critting (and thus freezing the mobs anyways) than I would have %chance to freeze from the skill tree, and I would surely do more damage the crit route. What do you guys think on going crit vs going chance to freeze?
edit: From what I see chance to freeze from the tree can only be added up to 20%, so I think stacking crit would be better for the purposes of trying to freeze lock mobs correct?
|
Of course, also because high HP monsters like some rares don't get frozen or just very shortly if your dmg isn't high. Crits deal a lot more dmg so their freezing potential is high.
|
I just scaled both crit and freeze chance. Though I'm planning on redo passives to remove the freeze chance nodes.

Well, just ripped to a damn blue strongbox because stream of monsters breaks POE. Desync/slingshotting combo cause me to die in a situation I should have lived, such fun. And that after I just spent a shit ton of currency on stuff, had a 20% fp on me, spell echo, multiple link combos going, and decent gear.
I told hillock that if he drops me an exalt ill forgive POE, but he didnt go for it.

How is PoE in comparison to D2 and D3? I spent endless hours grinding and really enjoying D2 but D3 got me jaded to the whole genre. If PoE is closer to D2 I'd definitely want to pick it up

I am also going purity of ice for the same reason, but I have the spell dodge acrobatics too which should keep me safe.
Anyways, a sapphire flask is way more resistance than anything else, so if you notice the reflect or are on a reflect map just keep using your sapphire flask and reflect wont touch you.

It is much closer to D2 than D3 is.
