Thinking bear+fire trap. How come some people dont run lightning (is it cause of the lower crit chance?). And opinion on shadow vs scion
It depends on the Trap if it is enhanced by spelldamage passives, just look at the top of the gem if it reads: 'Spell' then it will be affected by spelldamage. ( e.g. Firetrap, Lightning Trap) Some traps like beartrap are not spells.
There are also a lot of Trap damage nodes in the skilltree. Elemental damage also doesnt affect beartrap directly but it obviously does for Firetrap.
I personally like lightning trap with multi trap / chain or fork and elemental equilibrium or lightning penetration for spreading insane shockstacks on whole groups (starting as shadow + static blows).
I would not recommend scion as start because all her close passive nodes are nerfed really hard. Shadow is pretty good and i discovered witch as an awesome non crit trap build start with the buff to her elemental passives.
If you have questions on certain skilltrees just send me a PM i have 3 ~70-80 trappers in Hardcore.

Should not be able to be dropped, but you can still craft it. You're not supposed to be able to chance craftable uniques.

It's starting to feel like Arctic Armour is mandatory for a witch. I have 5k combined hp/es and I am still in constant danger of being either 1-shot by a bunch of frogs leaping on top of me, or 2-3-shot by a horde of skeletons / chimeras. By now I have lost perhaps 200% experience of a level (currently 85). That's with me never having entered a 74+ map once. I have 7% armour, should I be aiming for about 25-30%? How do witches survive physical damage (elemental is not a problem, even chaos at 0% resistance is literally ignorable)?

Are you using Granite flasks? If not they are awesome with the %armor mod to tank those leap bursts more.

Are you using endurance charges? Easy 12% physical damage reduction.
You should also value your armor in terms of the flat number. The displayed percentage on the character sheet is not useful in practice.

Well I think we just summed up the 3 reasonable ways of properly mitigating burst phys dmg.
Arctic armor is REALLY GOOD but also REALLY HARD to run high levels of due to mana cost and it doesn't properly mitigate the really high dmg hits like from those leapers which is a huge deal.

Thanks for the responses.
I don't really see any reliable method of gaining endurance charges; I'm running a necro, rendering Warlord's Mark useless.
CwDT (lvl 1) + Immortal Call (lvl 1) + Increased Duration + maybe Faster Casting - sounds interesting, I'll give it a try.
I guess I have neglected Granite Flasks. The problem is most of the physical damage is completely unexpected, so it's hard to know when to use one. I'll give them a try.

Ummm, faster casting? that literally doesn't do anything in that link. Put in enduring cry to make the IC last longer. Assuming you are running solo, the EC does nothing except generate charges for u.
Could try icewall in there too if you wanted, probably of questionable value though.
E: oh ur a summoner. EC is questionable then.

Cant you use enduring cry for endurance charges?
|
Well Immortal Call has a 0.85s casting time... which seems rather slow. Faster Casting isn't the highest priority, true.

I've noticed that whenever I try to come up with a build, most skills just look boring to me.. =/
Cast on Crit Storm Call is like the only thing that seems fun to me. Which hopefully I can make it so I don't suicide to reflect. Shouldn't be hard to set up right.

I've been having this a lot lately. I've come to where I have a certain expectation of dps and clear speed that I dont think is possible with a lot of skills.

If you aren't using granites already then that is your best option. Learning when you need to use them just takes practice.

Bow skills are all boring, nothing all that new or interesting on that front since CB.. Melee usually is fun but I don't want to play melee in Invasion right now. Power Siphon still beckons me but I'm always told I need gear (which I know to be solid I do need solid gear). Though Nugi is starting to show that it is possible without much.
I guess I should start trying things rather than just discrediting them.

My current issue with builds is that it takes about infinite points to get a reasonable life total with IR and EA, and US if i'm there. CI builds all look boring cuz you have to be in the awful top half of the tree where you are now punished by the crit nerf or else just casting bad spells hoping that your clear speed might one day approach that of somebody with half your gear and 10 less levels using a weapon. Meanwhile you have to either wear awful uniques or get stunned and frozen every other second, you have no simple mana fix so there go another swathe of points, and you only have to spend thousands of chromatics on gear to actually get useful colours. PS u have minimal armor/evasion too and despite the leech nerf u can't use LGoH so sux to be u.
(I'm referring to endgame btw. I know searing bond is busted levelling but idgaf about levelling I don't enjoy it regardless its also not like you can really level as CI)
