In adittion to Storm Brand and Arc for lightning damage, Vortex was popular for ice spellcasters.

(Altough everything was unpopular if you compare it to summoners xD)

After reviewing the Archmage support video I think it might be better to forget the idea of playing a mana focussed build, the gear of the guy in the video was pretty insane and the damage didn't look great to me, although it was Arc, which isn't the most amazing boss killer skill.

Then again, maybe it is good and it's just my wrong judgement after playing Ball Lightning Miner in Metamorph which was broken good for bosses and an equally strong summoner in the league before that.

I'd never take the damage/performance of anything in a demo video with too much weight. Regardless of how good their gear looks or their HP/mana, etc. Does seem like it's going to be a weird gem to balance though with how mana scaling and certain ascendancies work right now.

That's true, but in the latest reviews the chars showcased have pretty good gear compared to how it used to be. The char in the Archmage + Arc showcase uses a 6L with all blue gems which is what I would as well on PoB which kinda hints they are perfect, and the amount of mana is hard to reach. It's possible that the build is inefficient though, that's impossible to tell.

I am sure this gem will be super for some builds that uses unique that give buffed effect with high mana use. I have doubt if it will be all round good.

I've pretty much settled on SSF. Still deciding on generic-ish Marauder stuff to start with, or Kinetic Bolt something. Been a while since I've done melee and the lower left quadrant of the tree is really straightforward and doesn't need lots of points/travel to be solid, so there'll lots of extra points for playing around with the new cluster jewels. Probably Tec Slam Jugg, and then I can regret into Zerker later if I want to get crazy.

Kinetic Bolt and fooling around with new spellslinger ideas sounds like a lot of fun too, but I'm not sure how much better wand leveling will be with their buffs yet, and none of the good relevant ascendancy ideas are really exciting me. I'll probably just wait until the actual patch notes come out and let people smarter than me digest all the numbers and how good/bad it's going to feel.

Have they discussed how removing cluster jewels will work? If you slot in a cluster jewel and then spend talent points on those new passives, what happens when you remove the jewel? Does it instant refund? Or are you NOT allowed to remove the jewel UNTIL you refund all the passives?

That behavior is probably the same as how it works with Intuitive Leap and Thread of Hope. To my understanding (haven't tested personally), you can't remove the jewel unless you unspec the points that are dependent on them.

I hope they buff Scion a bit, they usually end up with some extra points and with the "Start at Class of your choice" option you can probably get to the outer rim quickly.

Also I was planning on playing Bleed Bow Gladiator, but now I'm worried it'll suffer from mathil effect. He just listed it as his #1 budget build (#2 build overall of metamorph)

The new Merveil fight in act 1 is such a clusterfuck, especially 2nd phase, way too many things to avoid/keep track of

It sounds interesting. If I understand it well, it encourages completing all maps in the region so you can get this "token" and choose what maps drop more often.

It seems a good compromise between targeting map and favouring map variety.

Horns and two back attachments as the challenge rewards in Delirium => I don't care about the challenges.

As for the cluster jewels, most of them so far don't really seem good. They cost a lot of points that are usually needed for crit, life or other amazing clusters. Let's see tomorrow when they'll announce ALL of the notables.

Yes, next league challenge rewards are bad. I was expecting the Portal effect at 36/40. I won't complete 36 challenges this league, maybe 24 because it is not too hard, but I'm dissapointed.

current plan so far:
1) roll stormbind mana stacking hieropants
2) ???
3) reroll bane (+ed for single target) occultist
4) profit

on one hand i am glad they removed the teleport from stormbind (sauce: baeclast), on the other hand that make the skill
infinitely less meme tier.

spellbind looks cool too, but i have no idea about wands, so imma let some other ppl check that out first.

tbh i am fairly hype, seems like there is a lot of cool stuff you could do this league, though delirium not leaving corpses kills some ideas I've had.
can't wait for the patchnotes to kill the rest of my plans.
eg totem buffs might make me go divine ire hieropants again.

edit: yeah no portal challenge makes me sad. the horns are somewhat cute, the rest is fairly ugly, so def. not pushing for 36/40 unless i _really_ like the league.

Any reason why that wouldn't be viable?

If you invest in trap damage, the explosions won't be scaled by that if they are from a totem. One cast of explosion can blow 50 blades so I'd think along the lines of 4l cluster trap BF for clear/blade generation and 6l explosion for Single target. You only need the explosion cast very occasionally.

I really wanna see the 20/20 gems since the numbers on the blade blast and animate weapon gems are going to be crucial in picking a build for me

I figured i would only go for the "best" trap nodes to make them nice to play and else scale general DMG so BF and Explosion profit… Well, if Explosion fits into a Trap this could be really ridiculous if its damage is just halfway decent (I wouldn't even need Multiple-Traps/Clustertraps for it and could scale pure DMG?).

Hm.. gotta read up, i'm excited

Same here, I'm waiting for archmage, arcane cloak and the gems you listed. I don't think I'm going to play animate weapon though, I experienced it when it was hilarious with spell totem and over 100 weapons. Especially because I expecd the maximum to be at like 20 now. If I'd play a summoner, then I'd rather do my skeleton necro from 3.8 again, unless they nerf the duration of vaal summon skeleton since that was half the fun (using it at the end of delve encounters & blight made both doable by just waiting).

If none of the new gems excite me it's possible I'll do a Wild Strike Inquisitor (Inquisitor because fuck all the elemental res on map mods in addition to boss res).

Question: has anyone ever tried hybrid Life/ES, with the Doryani timeless jewel, then leeching both health and ES? I'm wondering if a Wand Spellslinger build, using attack damage leeched as life, and spell damage leeched as ES, could get pretty tanky in that way

I think the way leech cap works would mean that I would have a separate leech rate cap for life and ES right?

It's hard to get a bead on how common/rare these cluster jewels are going to be. There's so many new notables and overall the power level seems reasonably solid but requiring investment, so I'm hoping they're fairly common so that even SSF gets tons of new options and doesn't miss out on the fun. Trading these also seems like it'll be an annoying nightmare, good league to avoid it. Obviously there will always be stronger versions based on the rolls of the explicits and stuff, plus the uniques, plus larges will probably be rarer than meds rarer than smalls, etc. But I really want to just fuck around with them and have fun, don't want to see one every 50 maps and then have to determine whether or not it's even decent / matches your build(s).
