I really wanted to start frostbolt potentially as quick farmer for 3.1 - I know tree is not out yet but with vaal pact being unreachable for a templar basically (at least if you don't want a travel-point only tree) leech is hard to get by. Need vinctars, warlords mark which I don't think is a very good source as CWDT at least with frostbolt or need to get lucky with lab enchant.

Atziris would be possible as well but... looks I might not do that after all :S

Berek's Grip also works if you do some lightning damage. But that is not an item that you will get before reaching endgame.

Can someone enlighten me please?

If i do a Bladefall trapper, questions:
1: Spell Cascade won't work because it only works when selfcast?
2: Going Physical/Chaos, is the Poison from Fatal Toxins worth it or is the effect too small?

1. Correct - spell cascade doesn't work with totems / traps etc
2. If you are around it, yes, it is worth it. At least that would be my take on it

Do we know yet if it'll work with spells that are triggered, but come from your character (e.g., something linked to CwDT)? Or is it strictly self-cast only?

Apparently anything that can't be spell echo'd can't be cascaded so no joy on triggered etc either

Rory's verbiage was "It requires you to be self casting" and it doesn't work with channelling. It requires an area targeted skill (funny because detonate dead isn't really area targeted... but apparently it now just picks a corpse in an area?)

I guess that technically doesn't exclude triggered but I'm not really sure

They changed detonate dead yes. So now it seemingly is an area target skill. Otherwise perfect post from you

Isn't 'kill everything but bosses in under 1 second' already the 'meta?
It doesn't change how people play, just opens up some builds that would otherwise randomly die to a reflect mob in a pack that they couldn't possibly have seen before damaging it.

It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

it means you dont have to build to counter reflect, which is a huge deal in my humble opinion. I died to reflect last league because I thought berserker would be fine over scion

Punish slow builds who are slow to begin with, buff fast high damage builds. Its called reflect. It makes no sense. I only mind becuase I think its a bad way to go. There really was nothing wrong with reflect giving some troubles

I would say that is just a little inexperience? The Brine King is really easily. You can just attack him if you are ranged and do not if the whirl is around him when melee. When he goes into invulnerable mode and the water comes close its just nessa casting . You can see the blue circles at the ground, just avoid them. It is just more about being in panic than anything else really


Well damn. I went into the fight blind and didn't know he was invulnerable when the water was up so i was running around like crazy person the whole time spamming fire spells XD lesson learned

You can also simply TP out when the water closes in, TP back in and wait it out. Costs a few extra TP scrolls when you're solo but is incredibly safe.


I dont want to sound elitist but I believe using grace period to dodge the actual fight mechanics is a bit cheap. Of course you can take that way but it also takes away from a potentially rewarding feeling. I can understand doing that in case of having a TP up and dodging if you cant otherwise i.e when A10 kitava decides to put out flameburst everything and you are way out of position.

I mean I would not hate on the player and for sketchy kitava leveling I can see that but otherwise I think it takes away a cool experience and thrill

Eh, I don't have an issue with that at all. The goal in that kind of spot is overcoming an obstacle to me, not more, not less. If the fight is designed in such a way that the boss gets to be invulnerable during that time with zero incentives to stick around then I don't mind using tools I have at my disposal to deal with that.

We've had faceroll meta ever since reflect auras were removed, this is just a change that continuous in the same direction. I'd consider it a lot less influential than the initial change. Sure it will enable more builds to completely dominate content but it's not like GGG had an issue with that since a while now.

Also mitigates a lot of the vaal pact change. Taking the entire arch of changes into consideration I understand where they're going with the changes and I'm not sure the faceroll meta is a bad thing in terms of aRPG design.

I think the mirror in Atziri is sufficient mechanism for intelligent reflect. Having random mobs with it just punishes you randomly for doing too much damage.

FWIW, Ziggy confirmed that Chris said the shown vaal pact change is not necessarily final, but that Vaal Pact will certainly be changing in some way or another. Basically accept that the leaked version might not be it's true final form for 3.1.

The position is kind of akward for it I feel. Like casters have always been lackluster getting leech. I am aware flasks are possible, warlords mark, enchants etc but it has always been a bit akward thats why Berserker meta is so insanely dominant.

I would love for leech to be a bit more easy to come around for casters but I can see the attack/cast drawback for casters that they are mostly ranged and spells do amazing damage etc that its not in GGGs interest to generate easy leech, I still wish I wouldnt need to go all out of my way to someone get it :D

To my noob eyes the dominance of Vaal Pact and Berserkers is because of the damage model. To much damage in to short a time so you need to be refilling your health constantly to not die in a blink.

Changing the way leech works without changing the damage just makes people die out of no where more often.

I just wish leech wasn't so ridiculously unuseable without VP/Slayer

Maybe VP shouldn't be allowed to be as powerful as it is, but it would be much less dominant if it wasn't the only functional way to leech. All this is of course exacerbated by GGG's incredibly short sighted "divide all leech by 5" rework. Which is particularly egregious when you realize how they don't make any new items at 0.2% leech, because that's obviously unuseably awful, but they left all the old items at 0.2% leech because they were "fixing leech". They understand that you can't just expect people to use such awful leech amounts, but for whatever awful reason they still went live with the dumbest leech change and refuse to fix the items that were literally deleted by the change (atziri belts are a key one here).

I'm kind of hoping it means weird-ass instant heal combos like Soul Taker + Zerphi's become meta. Crazy mechanical interactions have always been my favorite thing about PoE.

Only problem is zerphi's is a league-restricted unique and there's just no guarantee perandus will even be in the zana mods for any given league. I've been looking into using that item as a sustain mechanism recently but reliably obtaining it early enough to build around isn't really a thing.

I've found that league-specific uniques are usually pretty available. I bought a Rat Cage pretty early for ~1ex in Harbinger. I don't think those were coming from anything besides Time Lost Relic; Torment wasn't a Zana mod this league. Maybe Zerphi's is sufficiently meta that it'd be prohibitively expensive, though.

If not, though, there's plenty of similar things. Mass ignite + Razor of the Seventh Sun, Maligaro's Lens + Necromantic Aegis, Romira's Banquet + Voll's Devotion + Kingsguard, Aegis Aurora/The Surrender, etc.
