Time to reach map tier 16 , beat the 4 guardians and the final Boss shaper? Thats kinda what mapping is for, so unless you havent done that, that would propably be your goal storywise.
Which will take you plenty of time and has a gradual progress, feels pretty awesome to get higher and higher.

Hm, gonna give that a shot i suppose.
I'm not gonna lie though, it does feel a bit lacking, but that might be generally a problem in the genre/my preference, because it now boils down to stamina to go through the "rinse and repeat".
Maybe i'll wait until a mate catches up, and run duo. No idea if it's the spec or something, but mapping seems very repetitive so far.

Try Hall of Grandmasters or try Vinkar Square. If you are feeling especially powerful try Uber Atziri. And go do 4 guardians and shaper after that. Oh and there is 5 Breach lord domains, and t15 Beachhead map. Also the Prophecy bosses.

I didn't find maps challenging until running the red maps corrupted. I blew all my harbinger's orbs on tier 14 maps for beachhead, that map is pretty easy and lots of exp/currency.
So far I've defeated Phoenix and Hydra, do the other 2 hit harder? I died a few times getting one shot by the charge up.
My passive tree has close to 10 jewel slots, filling them all with HP + Spell dmg + spell dmg with shield is gonna cost close to 1500c with the current prices on poe.trade... I only have spell dmg + spell dmg with shields, so probably missing close to 1000 hp there.
I don't think I can get any other upgrades that will help me with end game content. +1 curse voll's devotion with elemental weakness on repentance is probably not gonna happen this league.

EDIT: My first build guide in PoE. I am so happy atm :D

I'm actually really enjoying beginning to map. My first breach yesterday was bonkers and I had no idea what was going in. Shaper is a lot cooler then I thought he would be and I can now apreceiate a loot filter and what it's for.
Should I be bothering anymore to pick up all the Rares and portaling back or should I concentrate on just keeping my eye out for vendor recipe loot?
|
don't pick up all the rares, it's just too time consuming. limit to either only rares with good bases, and possibly rares for a slot you're looking for an upgrade. for upgrades though a quick 1 -5c trade will get you some pretty serviceable gear, so that is probably more time efficient. otherwise just do chaos recipe, either ID or unID'd (your choice).
|
Yeah picking up everything is just way too time consuming. I put neversink filter onto strict once I'm a bit into mapping just because it helps me from picking up literally everything (im a lootwhore!). That said I do turn on the currencies that strict turns off except for wisdom scrolls. I think that is augments, armor scraps, and various shards, but you can just turn them all on by finding the relevant currency section and changing 'hide' to 'show'.
If you run enough maps, high value items will drop. + Show Spoiler +
|
I would say it like this: Each time you go back to hideout from the map make sure you inventory is full of stuff to sell. Selling 4slot rares over time turns into a fair number of alterations and alchemies. Those can be traded for Chaos later. I think I sold 50c of alterations when I needed C for selling, I don't think I would have gotten those Chaos in some other way if I just ignored all the rares. Unless you are lucky, selling rares to vendors is a dependable way to earn currency. Also you can run into sellable rares that way.
|
Dumb question:
How do I list currencies/maps for sale? How do people list the number of maps in stock on poe.trade?
|
@m4ini mapping can be repetitive sometimes - I myself usually hate Mapping. Doing really hard maps (lots of mods, high tier Maps have harder bosses, tons of sextants), or just finding a super enjoyable build that you love playing helps. I think the people who enjoy speed mapping are those who enjoy a pure grinding experience. Just quickly killing and looting stuff. There is a moderate amount of variety compared to other games in the genre but in the end this is an ARPG
like others said PoE is very very deep in content, there's a lot of things you can do. Also a lot of people will gear a build to Completion (lvl 85-90) then start a new character. Making new builds / theorycrafting the appeal for them
@archangel unfortunately Mirror is ~5400 chaos in HSC, compared to ~3800 chaos in HHC haha. So 1500 chaos in HSC not even 1/3 of a mirror. (my mirror was 3200 chaos because I bought shards earlier) One of the perks of playing HC is that high end stuff is sometimes cheaper

Headhunter EK nova zerker ripped in Beachhead ><
not super sure what happened... probably elemental reflect. I had sibyl's on but set to the phys side. Probably had too many elemental buffs, maybe more than one reflect rare?
definitely keeping OBS replay buffer on from now on just so I'm more sure what causes death

Uuuuuuuuh... Rip I guess.

Now that I've been happy for a while with my comfy Cyclone Slayer (even though I'm still not at the endgame stuff yet; it's been a busy week or two...) I really want to try something with some reach. I think someone earlier in the thread referred to it as damage "projection". I want to clear screens or even off screen.
Cyclone was just what I needed to get into the game, something much simpler with good survivability so I could focus on mapping and wrapping my head around what to do in the endgame, rather than sweating in every single map in fear of being one shot by random shit. In retrospect it's likely I had very poor gear on my first couple characters too, even if I was resist capped or close to it.
Now that I'm a bit more comfortable and have some decent rares stashed away, and some currency, I want to try something that clears big. I feel like I see a lot of people either use or discuss EK nova builds but I've not come across a good 3.0 guide (a lot of pre-3.0 builds are ES+poison based). I also seem to see quite a few people using vaal power siphon and wand stuff (KB and/or barrage?). My guess is these are pretty expensive though... but maybe I'm wrong. It seems analogous to vaal fireball but I know that was costly in the past (and got nerfed too apparently?)
I know DP is the new hotness right now for big shatters and pack clearing but something about it just didn't click for me. I could revisit it now and pump some $$ into it which might help. But even if I improved the survivability, I don't know if the playstyle is something I'm in love with. There seem to be other builds with those satisfying crit shatters too.

you could do crit FP maybe?

I'm running the scion version of this. Cleared up to shaper and it works pretty nicely. It's not very flashy though and DPS isn't 'zomgwtf instant shatter everything onscreen' so for my next character I kind of want to try something tornado shot related, maybe flicker strike or whatever creates aoes of giant lava balls and icicles.
|
@duka08 if you want best off screen clear you probably want to do vaal power siphon with queen of the forest. It can be kinda expensive and is squishy, but the clear is crazy. Cutedog's guide here - his gear is super insane, you don't need that much + Show Spoiler +
Doomfletch is very good, medium expensive. couple of people in here have made Doomfletch builds in here can ask them if that interests you. damage projection very good, and it can scale to do all content in the game
EK nova inquisitor is fast and strong. less squishy than wander, but can't really scale to do endgame bosses. here's a guide for it, but I would make changes to it if you go this route + Show Spoiler +

Soooo I finally also ripped to a corpse exploded map boss. Happened in poorjoy's where I think it's 100% my fault for not anticipating it. Was playing a tritotem (soulmantle+2xkikazaru + Ascendant) DarkPact Crit build. Clear speed was pretty good. Boss killing was acceptable, but I hadn't scaled gear (and gem levels) properly for endgame yet anyway.
What tier 9 maps did you guys shape? I know Reef is popular but I'm not relally convinced about the monster density. I'm leaning towards Coves or Crypt (nice density, easy boss and I like the map, not optimal in terms of layout). I'd totally double shape Graveyard if I could...
