Better than 1 mil dps to shaper? Which one? I'll have to say it's NOT (e: woops) as easy as I thought, and my current build melee build can't do it apparently (only about 300k, plus Warchief so maybe 500k; doesn't help that vs shaper you have no frenzies/shock/on kill etc.). But I have no doubt ele conversion builds on the right side of the tree can do it easily with BIS gear (but yeah they are more squishy than Dark Pact chars). Also quite probably Blade Vortex.
I'm also wondering how much dps crit miners do, I expect those can do ridiculous damage as well.

my steam client repeatedly crashes when loading new areas from act 4 and beyond. progression was fairly smooth up until this point. i'm reinstalling the standalone client to see if that helps.

So that you simply hold down your mine skill without needing to occasionally press detonate. But you probably know that. Also, for everyone playing with mines, make sure you use always attack in place. It's massive QoL boost with mines, I learned that last league. Thanks for that tip on attack in place. I've had it bound to my left pinky Diablo-style but that can get exhausting, especially since it seems to be more finnicky in PoE. Having it always on is a great idea since most people have "Move" bound to a key/mouse anyway.

Have you tried the 'Verify integrity of game cache' button in the properties?

Any advice for beginners to this game? Got bored with D3 and made a shadow character on PoE. To join the TL guild, do I just post my character name in game?

Change your left click button setting to an ability on the menu in the bottom right. helps out a ton I gotta say I really like the numbered buttons for the flasks and the qwert for abilities alongside the mouse buttons.

Already did that, I also changed the default mid button click, which is scroll wheel, to Mouse 4/5.
I noticed some skill gems I pick up has a superior quality attached to them, so there are better versions of the same skill out there to find?
At what point should I start to worry about the links in my gear? It looks like a pretty big resource/time investment to get the correct links/colors for any end game build.
Also, any kind of basic economy tips for how much each kind of orb is worth?

@Duk08 @bo1b
Those are quite different beginning paths. Duka goes through physical damage and bo1b goes through elemental damage.

Quality is just a small bonus to the gem, look up what it does for each on wiki.
Always worry about links, you want more. A 4 link main skill can take you basically all the way to a9-10, then you will want a 5l, then a 6l in later mapping.

I just started playing a few days ago and this is by far the best series of videos that has helped the most. I've even gone back to rewatch a handful of them AFTER I played through a few more acts and got more familiar with some things.
Question for vets: how do I know if a build will do enough damage? I'm using Path of Building just to dick around with some ideas and get more familiar with the passive tree. I'm getting more comfortable knowing how to pick up survivability along the way and overall Life values to shoot for to be relatively safe. But what about damage? Is there a way to know whether a build will be good/shit before actually trying it in end game? Is there a certain amount of DPS to shoot for in the calculation? I know the dps isn't a perfect metric since it doesn't account for aoe and some stuff, but at least as a baseline?

Obviously it depends on the build, its durability etc, but I'd shoot for at least 200k with flasks on and appropriate charges/buffs and realistic gear. You can make do with less, but 200k is a very very achievable number with pretty much any skill setup.
If you want to be able to do t16 Guardians and shaper, I'd suggest breaking 200k dps when the "vs guardians and shaper" option is selected in POB configuration. But this also presents many other survivability challenges as well.

Yup, they stack. Effectively getting 200% more from your weapons, with good jewels there are no weapon setups that have better damage. People seem really stuck to using shields with RF, but these days there's so much regen and mitigation available that it's completely unnecesary.

Regarding going through phys nodes or not I was experimenting with going coordination or not. Definitely the better option
