I do this because I play a lot of builds throughout a league - typically 6-9, so I need the chaos, to buy stuff I need, as this is not a very effective way of playing. I am similar. I don't farm end game content with any of my character and I don't sell anything (don't even know how to sell over poe.trade) as I don't have premium tabs and cba to install and use that extra program. So I just do Unid and Q Unit recipe and use chaos to buy everything. I don't ever bother to identify any jewelry because chance for them being exactly what I need are slim to none. But through poe.trade I can usually buy exactly ones I need with values I need (and even have S or P open for crafting I want). On good days I can get 20c/r from recipe alone Yeah, it is all very dependant on your playstyle, needs, efficiency, etc, and I think people adjust their farm methods after how they play and find pleasure in, thus might not meet the style of someone else.
I can sell, but I rather keep valuable pieces for a later build, and I don't do flipping, as it is against my ethics(not that I look down on others who do).

Are the breach rares tanky primarily because of thei high hp, or high (overcap) resist?

Sure, if you enjoy it go for it by all means but in terms of actually making currency it's pretty far down the list from my pov. Regular mapping, trading, lab or even alting jewels early on are all a much better investment of your time, at least in HC temp leagues. I'd be genuinely surprised if this somehow ends up better in SC temp leagues considering chaos is usually weaker there.
Even IF you're into it unid is a terrible idea early in a league (first week), you're losing both money and time by doing the recipe instead. Later down the line unid with shitty bases (which adds more time loss because you need to not id everything after a map) is acceptable I guess.
What convinced me completely of not doing it a few leagues back was vendoring my chaos tabs at the end of a league. On average you get enough alt/alch shards back from my experience that you realize you're going through all the effort for .5-.6c at best.

This is the first league I'm skipping Chaos recipe. Though I do collect some unid rare rings/amulets, especially bad bases. I haven't converted them into Chaos though.

So for 2 blue I plan Added Chaos Damage and Concentrated Effect (or increased AoE for clearing maps faster). Is lightbane even required? 50% of OP double dipping would still be OP. Saves the gem/chroming headache No, I decided to not do the physical to chaos conversion, I am losing out on good damage, mostly because of using crappy items in slots that don't really contribute to this build. This is not like the fire to chaos build where you get two daggers that give 140% spell damage boost and body armor that gives +1 to fire skill and bonus fire damage... New plan is this passive tree: www.poeurl.com/Vix (not poe planner link: www.poeurl.com/Viy)I will not be converting to Chaos but using as many Extra Chaos from Physical stuff that I safely can. That means I will be using 3 key unique items. Wand 15% (http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Obliteration), Shield 10% (http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Broken_Faith), Ring 20% (http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Ming%27s_Heart) and 5% from passive tree. I plan to use 3 unique jewels that each gives 25% chance to poison with trap and passive tree gives 10% more so I think that should be enough. For body armor I will probably be using Belly of the Beast and Southbound Gloves on glove slot for massive boost to life. Amulet, one ring, belt and helmet will be to max out of evasion, life and resistances. For boots I will try to keep the Trapper boots for long time and use it to have Bear Trap after I 5L my body armor and put Bladefall in it. If later my survivability suffers I will replace it with Atziri's Step unique boots for bonus spell dodge. I will be using Grace aura and low level Clarity to help with mana issues. For potions Witchfire Brew will be my required unique flask that will be my one curse. Anyone have other suggestions about aura, curse usage? While leveling I will be using Jaws of Agony Shield and trapper boots to use both BladeFall and Bear Trap with decent links and switch to above items once I can 5L my body armor. I should be able to reach 5000+ life with this and 40% dodge, 30% spell dodge (without Atziri Step), 50% evasion with flasks up and with Vaal Grace which is my vs boss ability a lot more of those. With never standing still except to throw a new set of trap I am thinking this should be enough. If you go acro and run that shield you are missing out on a lot of defenses (and damage!) You didn't take any block nodes, so you'll have 0% to block. The shield has no other defenses on it, and you'll not be proccing unholy might. Jaws of agony might straight up be better, even if it isn't that defensive it at least has life. You may want to consider running a hairtrigger jewel instead of just coated shrapnel. Trigger radius increase for bear traps is a huge QoL upgrade and its nice on the bladefalls too. I'm running a 100% phys->fire crit ignite bladefall trap and beartrapper this league (xoph's nuture + signal fire), and I cannot overstate how much you are going to want serious defenses for the breaches. Bladefall traps on breaches are not the most effective build even WITH proliferation effects Shield has 10% Extra chaos damage and 10% all resistance. I don't care about block, with 40% dodge and 50% evasions and never standing still I won't get hit that often. But if that extra chaos damage does not turn out to be useful I can switch to a more defensive shield or another Obliteration Wand (or maybe I should do that anyways and use Flame Dash to move around :D) With 40% chance for killed enemies blowing up I will have easier time murdering bigger groups :D I mostly wanted a shield because I could not use Whirling Blades, so I went for Shield Charge for moving around.
As for trigger radius, well I can get that from the passive tree. I need jewels to get poison, this a poison build Also the Saboteur ability gives me activation of all nearby traps simultaneously so trigger radius is not such a huge deal except for beat trap but that one will only be for single targets (and I might not even need it if I do this build well as from what I seem poison bladefall builds from 2.3 and before just used cluster trap bladefall to murder bosses including Atziri and Uber Atziri).

HELP NEEDED WITH "HOT" BUILD! So after I got my Breach character build completed and ready I got an urge to make something cool with my Mjolner in Standard before I go full time Breach.
I read about a guy that took Arc and turned it 100% to fire so I said well lets try that but with Mjolner :D How do you turn Lightning to Fire you ask? Well you take Avatar of Fire. Then you get Call of Brotherhood ring and you link it all with Cold to Fire support.
So Mjolner is Arc+ColdtoFire+Fire Pen. Like most fire/ignite builds I took Elementalist for free Proliferation. So I went in search of additional damage sources. Since I need to stack lots of Strength (and Int) for Mjolner I am also using another similar item Repentance for free Iron Will. Well since Str now gives me spell damage I bought Astramentis (also helps with Dex requirements) Big CON with Mjolner is lack of gem slots to put supports in so now I am thinking how do I get more damage for my Arc to get big burns.. well since I am in templar and marauder part of the tree, there is lots of life regen here as well as +1% max fire resist... so Righteous Fire for the sweet 59% MORE spell damage! So I equipped Rise of the Phoenix, Purity of Fire and I got a Ruby Flask as well as a dousing healing flask. This is the passive tree this version of the build is aiming for: www.poeurl.com/VsS (this is poeplanner version: www.poeurl.com/Vtj) I need to thank someone from the guild that helped me refine it Also I need to note that in this tree I use Elemental Overload while currently I am testing with Resolute Technique.
The last part of the build is how to activate Mjolner. Well I wanted to be away from danger and recent nerf to Mjolner (it can activate every 250ms up from every 100ms) means I don't need to use MoltenStrike with GMP to get 10 activations per second. So I chose Spectral Throw with GMP, Faster Attacks, CurseOnHit and 2 curses (Flammability and Temp Chains). I am testing with Tabula. This lets me use my mana for Purity of Fire and Anger. Spectral with these links costs 15 mana per use or basically nothing (I can get it lower if I use lvl 1 Spectral). For version that uses Elemental Overload I would need to replace FA with Additional Accuracy.
So how does this perform? I test with a lvl 81 character. With lvl 18 arc and less level of other gems when I turn on lvl 15 RF the tooltip says my Arc does almost 8000 fire damage per hit. With 4 hits per second it is up to 32k dps (average dps lower). With Fire Pen and Flammability everything non boss dies fast (white mobs die from one use of Spectral Throw without use of RF). I tried up to tier 8 maps. Vs Map Bosses it does less damage than wanted. I got a Scorching Ray Totem setup for those to help, it is still slower than wanted. This is a build with Mjolner and Astramentis and multiple high quality gems, I want more boss kill speed.
I think the biggest problem with vs Boss kill speed is that I don't get 4 hits per second on bosses and I am not sure how to fix that while still staying at safe distance. Another solution would be to find a way to do bigger hits so burn can kill the boss but I don't have an idea how. I could use Frost Blades+Multistrike to get fast 3 hits in but that one makes you stand in one place for possibly too long while with Spectral you throw them and shield charge away.
Any tips are welcome (or bigger redo of this build if you got a better idea)!

What I plan to test next is use Elemental Overload instead of RT to try to get that 40% more damage. Hopefully my accuracy will be good enough. I will try to use Frost Blades+Multistrike as that saves me one support (compared with ST+Faster Attacks+GMP) so I can fit Additional Accuracy. Also it is not realistic this build will be using 6L so I need to put one curse on Blasphemy and just have one on Curse on Hit connected with main attack. Or since I will need to use OoS to trigger Elemental Overload I can put one Curse there as well. If I can come up with a good 5L setup I can buy a 5L Cloak of Flames instead of Tabula and see how it performs with one of the two armors that are best for this build (other one being Lightning Coil). They are best because receiving Physical damage turns them into elemental damage and it triggers my Elementalist Paragon of Calamity which gives me 40% increased damage.
Also I need to try to use Vaal Lightning Trap and see how much that helps. Would Rallying Cry be something to try as well? Its generic damage bonus should boost burn damage as well? Or maybe I am now overextending with the amount of stuff I need to trigger in combat to boost damage (RF, Vaal LT, Rally Cry)
Any tier 8 or less map bosses with good health/fire resistance you guys suggest I test this vs?

Is it possible to have a defensive with Mind over Matter + Divine Guidance/Illuminated Devotion (Hierophant) in a defensive setup with Righteous Fire ?

On December 14 2016 01:04 Otolia wrote: Is it possible to have a defensive with Mind over Matter + Divine Guidance/Illuminated Devotion (Hierophant) in a defensive setup with Righteous Fire ? It's quite unclear what you are asking here but righteous fire will never damage your mana, mind over matter and similar abilities are worded "When Hit". So that stuff won't help you sustain righteous fire.
Of course you can still do a build with those things and righteous fire. There's just no obvious synergy.
|
Uhm right, it's unclear in my head too. I'll try to advance in the build and check back.
|
Do note that if you are using RF as your primary damage ability, you want to scale your life or ES as much as possible because that is what scales your RF damage. Adding a bunch of mana and Mind over Matter is a defensive option but again seems worse than trying to have as much life as possible. In addition, builds that use RF as their only damage source desperately want the Essence helm that does 30% more elemental damage, its much better than the 20% aoe from gloves ascendancy option IMO.

Alright, so now that I've figured out that Vengeance+Fortify doesn't actually work (...derp), I have two gem slots in my build that I need to figure out what to do with.
I'm running a CI Oro's Flickerstrike Elementalist with self-ignite via Eye of Innocence + Mokou's Embrace. This makes it very easy for me to proc a CwDT setup (I'm already using one to apply my curses, and another to cast my golems + Immortal Call), so I'm thinking I might use my two free slots to cast another spell that way. Some options I've thought of:
- Molten Shell - this sounded good, but it turns out that I can never get it to go off before my CwDT triggers again, so it ends up just being a small armor buff, which is pretty meh. If I were running The Rat Cage, it'd be cool, but that's both crazy-expensive and takes up a slot I need to keep my ES high.
- Detonate Dead - this spell doesn't scale off of spell damage (which I don't have), but does scale off of fire/elemental damage (which I have lots of), and a lot of its damage comes from the base HP of the enemy it's detonating (which doesn't care about gem level)...but on the other hand, I'd be casting it out of effectively a 1-link. Not sure if its damage would end up being relevant.
- Phase Run - I need my Frenzy charges for Flickerstrike, so no.
- Another golem - if I pick up an Anima Stone, I can run a third golem. Expensive, but might not be bad.
- Something other than a CwDT spell - Blood Rage (not that I have trouble keeping up Frenzy), another Vaal skill (already have Vaal Discipline), fucking Portal, I dunno.
Any ideas for me?

Throw vortex in. Or firestorm, if you don't care about an extra layer of defence.

You cannot trigger Vaal skills. If you are in melee a lot, Vortex is good. Its debuff is always cold damage and it will chill enemies. If you don't have bonus cold damage so Vortex does not manage to chill put in Arctic Breath, it will create chill ground effect and help you that way.

I know you can't trigger Vaal skills, that's why they're in the "not CwDT" section. But are there any that might be good to self-cast (besides Vaal Disc)?
The wiki says Vortex also chills via a ground effect - I was assuming that this didn't care about damage threshold, just like chilled ground. Is that not true, does it have to do a certain amount of damage to chill?

vms is only triggered by phys damage unfortunately... though i guess you could use scold's to force it to trigger
