And I originally took Deadeye mostly for +1 arrow and 30% bonus damage if I shoot from afar. It helped that I didn't need to use pierce gem. VoidWalker boots are new as they drop only from Shaper but they kind of make Pierce gem obsolete (unless you want its bonus damage)

I would have thought it would work with drillneck and a quick google agrees, but I haven't tested it personally.

Geez. Blade Flurry looks really OP from what I've seen from Mathils Twitch vid. Great ST, great AoE (like Vaal Reave), no need for Multistrike.

...while blight is at the opposite end of the power spectrum lol and right now scorching ray's best use seems to be as the wither totem V2, but for fire-based builds

Scorching Ray as a support for fire builds would be fine for me. But geez, having a "blade" in the skill name makes it very likely the skill is crazy strong in PoE.
edit: Lol... + Show Spoiler [Blight DRIED LAKE] + Blight looks awful. Barely Dried Lake viable with a 6L etc. Even if he had no curse and probably no optimal build.

actually with some quick testing atm i think selfcast scorching ray is pretty decent, non qual gem with little cast speed on a non spell build i can sweep the beam around the whole screen quickly. the main issue is survivability since you cant leech unlike blade flurry. seen some ideas about doing it with max block aegis+necro ascendency+scourge+boneoffering...
also think dual/multiple totem scorching ray just can't make it, the ai is just poor and inefficient.

I feel like they keep dancing around fixing melee and instead just introduce new skills to one-up the old ones. Ice crash -> earthquake ->lacerate -> blade flurry.
|
Definitely. Personally, I'm not a fan of them adding new skills. They could instead balance the other skills A LOT. Sweep is worse than Ancestral Warchief Totem for example, seems fair.
edit: Scorching Ray seems quite OK indeed. What would be the optimal links though? I would do SR + Elemental Focus + Controlled Destruction + Faster Casting + Increased Duration (+ Empower). Idk if ICD is important, though. Maybe even use Increased Burning Damage? Fire Pene does not work, but you can easily buff the damage with Orb of Storms to procc Elemental Overload and apply EE (works because SR doesn't hit) as well. Plus a lot of extra damage from dual curse if one wants.

What do you guys think about a Elementalist build using Sire of Shards with Flame Totem and focusing on stacking Burn with Emberwake ? Throwing such a totem in the middle of enemies should fire 7 projectiles in all directions activating multiple burns that Elementalist spreads to everyone. Against bosses maybe use Writhing Flask to get bonus enemies so to spread Burn on the boss? :D By lvl 81 I can get lots of bonus fire and burning damage from the passive tree and use double Fire Golem for 160% bonus damage. Also with fast attack of Flame Totem Elemental Overload should activate often.
Am I crazy or do you think this could work?

Unless you also have Taming, if not then Emberwake is just simply a 116% dmg multiplier (or less since resist) regardless of the burn stack.
The Emberwake Taming combo on the other hand, I always wanna try that out sometimes.

incinerate totems are better iirc?
and if taming werent impossible to get...

Quad flame totem is where it's at for maximum number of ignite stack on single target. Who need 20ex of grand spectrum to achieve thousands of increased dmg pfft. (Instead just need a 10ex ring...)

How did you get that number?! it says you can have 300 burns on targets.. I would assume that means you can do up to 300x burning damage if you can get multiple burns to proc which Elementalist can for free or one can use that support
Edit: I have been googling a bit, seems I need to stack 5 burns on same character and I will start doing more damage. Also it seems Ele prof transfers all burns from one character to the next if you are using Emberwake. So burning mobs near a boss will probably get 10, 20 or more stacks on him instantly :D

Am I crazy or do you think this could work? Let me report back on this. I respeced my Ball Lightning elementalist to work with this, I got a 5L, my gems are all 0 quality and since I had to buy them from vendors most lag in levels for the content I am doing (which is Dried Lake merc atm) but I am still kicking ass and taking names. Flame Totem with Sire of Shards (and Winds of Change unique gloves) covers whole screen in all directions and burn kills whatever else is in the area. Very effective and clearing Dried lake and rares and Voll die fast as well. I got a Fire Pen support and Flammability on Blasphemy. I am near 100% chance to ignite, with few more levels in my chance to ignite support and flammability I will reach this.
And this is with only 2 labs done. When I get merc lab done I will get 2 fire golems for a huge damage boost

It's a nice thematic inversion on Beyond, and doesn't have any of the annoying "hmm I better drag this pack over to my two red dots just to be sure I get a Beyond pack" that was associated with it. Plus it seems to be about swarms of mobs, rather than 4 strong mobs, which got kind of tedious in Beyond.
