Probably the death and taxes mod. I havn't played around much with the middle east, so I can't tell for sure, but that's probably it.
The paradox site seems to be down for me right now, but google it and click the link that mentions 'stronger sliders and decisions' ♥

you need 25 provinces in the middle east and you have to be an arab nation. So Jalayrids and Mamluks can not form Arabia

historical mamluks were slaves who took over after the caliphate broke apart. So technically they are no arabs. In the game you have to take the countries on the arab peninsula to form arabia.

Open the ledger. Hit Nation Comparision in the top row. Sort by countries. Click the country name/flag. Watch as you zoom to the location. It does not have the countries you don't know about yet.

We should totally start posting stories and screenshots in the French Bashing thread. WHY DO YOU HATE THE FRENCH?
They always mess with my empire, that's why !

Just got cannons. Though to myself "I should do a timing attack"

God damn it. Not only did Bohemia see fit to unleash the HRE cascade, but mega-Sweden are opportunistic assholes.

Sweden's always Mega ;D
I just wanted to give everyone playing D&T Byzantines / Rome a little tip. You'll have serious trouble dealing with mamluks and neighbouring muslim nations, but once you get the third kind of cavalry you'll all of a sudden deal with them without problems at all and can focus everything on the western countries Rome's really fun to play, but difficult in the way that you'll have the eastern tech group, making your military pretty shit, but it'll take a good while until you're behind enough in tech to westernize.
Edit. The best part about playing Rome is easily that you'll have lot's of conquest missions, and once you have everything you need, you'll get cores over the Italy area and the balkans. In addition you'll get an awesome looking country with special decisions that are quite interesting.

Yeah, just did Byzantium -> Roman Empire as well. Got some nice missions and decisions as you said :p
Though I wasn't that hard, hardest part was taking care of the Mamluks and getting Rome :p
I decided to help Lithuania make Jaggelion to spice things up !

Oh gosh. Austria, Bohemia and a beastly Burgundy with France enherited turned out to be in my way to get my Roman cores.. :/
Does anyone know if the eastern tech stuff actually decreases the effectiveness of your troops, or if eastern and western countries on equal tech levels make the same quality units?

Generally speaking eastern units are worse than western units at equal tech levels. You might be able to find some exceptions though.

This game just stopped being fun, after a few years of playing it ;_;
Moving on to Vicky 2, unfortunately. CK2 when it comes out as well.

Any chance you could spell out those abbreviations?
edit: On that note, would anyone care to mention more good games of the genre? The only one I know of is hearts of iron, but I'm not sure which one in the series to pick up. I downloaded HOI 3 to try it, but I never understood the interface.

Victoria 2 // Crusader Kings 2
In a chronological order you could say:
Crusaders Kings --> Europa Universalis --> Victoria --> Hearts of Iron

Awesome! Thanks. Had a great time playing with you by the way
Are all games in the series good, or should I just go for the latest?
