tech group only affects tech, at the start of the game eastern tech group is the strongest as it has better cav.
the reason he is getting stomped is probably due to quality vs quantity, if he is nearly maxed quantity then he needs to more than double his enemies numbers. i have no idea what the slider choices of rebels are though ;/

Hm. Tech Group also determines which units you get, but i don't know exactly what the rebels get. Even if it is different, that should only be a problem pretty late, since the beginning units are pretty much equal across the board, only later do the western tech nations get much better armies. Also, i found that land tech 2 makes your armies ridiculously more powerful as an african tribal thingy. Basically, without it, you get slaughtered by rebels even if you outnumber them 2:1, with tech 2 you can usually fight on even footage.

that's why when you conquer the aztecs it's so damn easily to put down their rebellions

I've never played with any mods. Do they make the game any better? Also what differences does the D&T mod add? From the looks of some of the posts it's fairly significant.

Off the top of my head...
The ideas and sliders have different (stronger) effects. The world 1399 onwards is arranged a bit different than in vanilla. Different (prettier) map. More decisions for nations (countryspecific buffs, new country formations, etc) More modifiers for advisors Couple of "fun" events Event to rename provinces
However the best thing about this mod as opposed to the others, IMHO, is that it's still mostly the EU3:DW you know. It also runs fast since it doesn't have a million weird scripts like MMU or MEIOU.
|
more historical starts, a lot of provinces have been altered buffing and nerfing countries aswell
cant think of any more changes off the top of my head

Does it run with DW?
Also why are Burgundy such dicks. Playing as Holland and they keep wanting to declare war on my vassal. No matter what I do in terms of relations with them they keep on declaring war on them. Is there any way to stop this. I'm kinda defeating them by not engaging their stacks until they've failed a castle assault while my vassals and allies lay siege to their land but Bohemia decided instead of supporting their HRE brethren they wanted to support Burgundy -_- so now I'm just waiting for their troops to join the battle ><
|
Yes, Death and Taxes runs with the newest version of DW (5.1).
As for Burgundy, I haven't tried Holland, but I would say that you should get an Alliance with France or England :p
|
My Holland experiences:
Allying France = Impossible. Allying Burgundy = Impossible. Allying England = Possible but they go to war with France, you don't want war with France.
The problems i had: Scenario 1: Burgundy is an asshat and declares war... This is manageable but annoying. Scenario 2: Burgundi gets owned by France and France is an asshat and declares war... Have fun giving them provinces/vassals because you just can't beat them.
Playing Holland seemed stupid to me... When France/Burgundy did not take off "big" you got a really nice time up there. If one of the two gets serious youre pretty much fucked. (?).

This is pretty much exactly my situation. I want to ally france but I can't, I want to ally burgundy but I can't. The one time I allied with england england dragged me into some war vs sweden/denmark/norway/scotland that I could not help them with because all I did was get blockaded by a huge fleet and I couldn't get military access on any of my neighbours so I got screwed over that way. Oh yeah, Burgundy also declares war on England.
I'm kind of winning the war against Burgundy but I can't see it ending well. The only thing keeping me in the war is that Burgundy can't be bothered to leave their doomstack on a province until they've won the province (by doomstack i mean 14 stack lol but I can't get a large enough army to beat it cause of manpower). They just keep leaving a one stack army behind and I kill it then run away before the big army can attack me.
So I'm not sure what my options are. I've managed to colonise the azores and i've almost colonized the canaries (I can't remember why i'm colonizing that, might be because of a mission or something).

I "fled" europe via North America .
After playing several countries with the intend to colonise the world and/or expand to the east in general i would say Naples is great fun. Everything is "near" you, you can become a major european power, a colonising power or just rule over africa/arabia (or all of it). Your also not surrounded by anyone much stronger than you so you probably won't die due to bad luck but still can't be overly aggresive.
Hm.. I really like playing as Naples ^^. Atm I have a game as Naples: I got ~3-4 extra provinces in Italy. I got tons of colonies in Africa. I got plenty of colonies in SA (growing these atm). Byzantium is my vassal (with like 9 provinces making it the dominant force on the other side of the Adria ^^). Tuscany and other Italian countries are my Vassal shield to the north....
It's just nice.. I can go wherever I want.. Everything is right next door .

A tip for anyone who hasn't tried it yet. Playing a game as Ireland I moved my capital to america and my income went boom! The production and trade income is so nice. Also really helps while spreading your colonial empire making even a minor nation into a empire to be feared.
Now all I have to do is kick whoever is left out and I'll have my Irish-America.
Might be an option for those struggling with Holland. Not sure how fast the problems start with France/Burgundy.
|
My record for this problems to start was 1401 or something .
Basically.. Start game.. Move sliders... "Burgundi has declared war" :D.

What does the Lucky Nations option do when you're setting up your game, exactly?
|
On October 27 2011 23:45 dranko wrote: What does the Lucky Nations option do when you're setting up your game, exactly? http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/Luck
Basically it makes the big nations like, Castille, England, France etc.. more powerfull and should be turned off!

as holland, ally with austria and bohemia first day before the game even starts, they should both accept. the reason you cant diplo peace with burgundy is because they get missions to attack you.
you could also ally spain, they are less likely to accept though, but austria probably will, same culture group, within hre etc.
then you shouldnt get attacked as much and if you do, you have the emperor defending you,

until france gets italian ambition and then you instantly die? : D

so I installed the D&T mod and started a game as Uesugi in Japan. First 100 years I was busy unifying Japan. THen I instantly made a royal marriage with Ming and now I have a Uesugi Emperor in China and Japan and when I want I can go and try to make a personal union with Ming :D
Japan is seriously OP after you unified it. The D&T mod changes a lot of trade goods when you unify making your income go up insanely hard.
What surprised me though is seeing "The Spanish Kalifate"
how does that happen?

God, I'm getting mixed emotions right now.
As Poland, whether or not to Integrate Lithuania. On the plus side, I get a bunch of territories that will save me a lot of time in the future and when they are cored, will give me some nice income. On the flip side, with them as my Peronal Union minor I get an extra ~40 troops that will always help me in wars, and that is just undeniably great. However, I've already destroyed Hungary, annex Bohemia, and Austria is in shambles. So there's really nothing left to face me other than the Golden Horde.
Should be noted I don't plan on moving West. I want to do something rather humorous in the sense of me conquering the entire Middle Eastern/Indian area. Should I keep the PU up long enough to out tech and destroy the Golden Horde in a few decades, and take the risk of the PU being naturally broken or something causing us to be split and me losing the land entirely?
Bah.
Playing on Very Hard right now with High Aggression, no Lucky Nations by the way.

I'd say integrate Lithuania. You are allready big enough so that you should really have a problem with the Horde anymore

And for those of you waiting for an AAR update, I'm working on it.
