28' Barrera beats Bornstein for speed down the right and gets played through and finishes with ease. USA - 2 MEXICO - 1
32' Donovan receives a yellow for tripping from behind. (a bit questionable if you ask me, looked to be a complete accident but the mexico defender sold it well.)
36' Guardado slides in to win a crossed ball vs Howard from about 6 yards out ball ricochets in the net. USA not happy. Mexican crowd going crazy. USA - 2 MEXICO - 2
40' USA defense looking quite rattled, Bornstein looking terrible, losing Cherundulo early really hurt them and its showing.
42' Rafa Marquez goes out due to injury for Mexico (hamstring). Hector Reynoso goes in.
45' + 2' Mexico finishes the half strong. What a fun first half of soccer! Can't wait to see who ends up making changes in the 2nd half. USA needs to re-adjust their back four.

63' Bedoya goes out for USA and Agudelo goes in.
70' Dos Santos takes Bocanegra out from behind and antagonizes, things getting quite heated
73' Loose ball in the USA box after a Mexican free kick, Howard cleans it up, scary moment for USA defense.
75' Pablo Barrera comes out and Zavala goes in for Mexico.
77' Sloppy clearing by USA defense leads to Dos Santos dribbling away from Howard, brilliant ball control and a world class chip to put it over a USA defenders head. Howard absolutely livid, Mexico ecstatic USA - 2 MEXICO - 4
80' Bradley hits a rebound first time out of the air, absolute bullet of a shot just misses wide, thought USA had a moment of hope there.
81' Yellow card given to Jorge Torres Milo for his challenge against Adu
84' Castro gets slipped in, hes 1 on 1 with Howard and he misses wide.
86' Adu comes out and Kljestan goes in for USA.
87' USA with another close goal, misses just wide right, Dempsey gets a yellow afterwards (O.o)
89' 3 minutes of stoppage time announced, seems like Mexico has all but won it at this point.
90' + 2' USA with another great chance, but its deflected away, Mexican defender got tackled hard in the play.
90' + 3' GG! Mexico wins it 4-2, great game for Mexico, extraordinarily frustrating game for USA, losing Cherundulo early pretty much crippled the back four.

That was a nice goal.
Bornstein's man createed the shot. Dammit, use a second sub or something he's terrible.
|
Rafa Marquez out? Mmm man this is bad...
|
Piche, Hernadez is Smart 75 percent of people in his situation trys to make the goal lol and cause an offside and is the most fail moment in soccer haha

Really unfortunate injury for USA. =(

I thought Hernandez did that to not steal Guardado's glory. XD
|
Bornstein is so bad...would be better to just play with three defenders than keep him on. Lichaj isn't doing much better. Mexico players are playing pretty dirty though. And California is such a failure state... wtf is up with more mexico fans than usa fans in the stadium.
|
Its okay guys its even. Reynoso is Mexico's Bornstein. When i saw Marquez hurt all i could do is facepalm knowing that he was going out.

If you take a simple look, you'll notice USA is the one who's playing dirty here. Thus far, Donovan is the first player to get a yellow card. Plus, Americans seem to like to ride on Mexican's backs whenever the ball is rolling out on their part.

USAAAAAAAAAAA!!! I have to watch this on univision. Is this being broadcasted on cable anywhere else?

OK. did you see donovan's yellow?! it was completely accidental and purely sold by the Mexican defender, he pulled his own heel back so it would hit Donovan's foot. He was not even remotely phased by it, it was an incredibly soft foul. Also. Mexican player straight up kicked Adu in the face, intentionally, when Adu was on the ground, then stared him down like he was a champ.

Because Southern California has a huge Latino population plus its soccer, not going to find a lot of soccer fans in Los Angeles. L.A. is a basketball town....and yes I'm from Southern California, I'm 15 minutes from the Rosebowl so I know....

Americans are just not that interested in soccer compared to football, basketball, or even baseball. If there was more interest we'd probably win a few world cups, given our enormous population and powerful economy which would make us likely to develop good players (like we do for basketball).

I agree that USA would have great players with more interest in soccer but that doesn't mean you'll win some World Cups, there is still a long way to go to be compared with Spain, Holland, or countries like that, no matter the population or economical state.

This is true, but we would definitely would perform better, we got robbed of a semi-finals appearance in 2002, and have had quite strong teams recently that have performed well in other big stages (past Gold Cups, Confederations Cups) just lacking that deep lineup that allows us to perform consistently.

You said the truth, you would perform better well said, and kinda of topic the fact that Mexico's soccer team is so popular is that it's in a way over rated by the Mexican comentators and also Chicharito so they get a lot of attention so.

O.O What a goal I'm amazed... Awesome goal!!

Dat goal! Gio scoring like a baws

That was a beautiful goal just barely got it over the defender. Gotta feel for Howard, US defense has been weak and he thought he had to come out or it was all over.

That goal!! That was awesome, gj gio!

Bradley almost made it 4-3

Oh yeah it would take a LONG time to catch up to those countries. I just mean that we have the resources to make it happen if there was an equal level of interest. Soccer would have to become big here first, and then maybe the next generation of players that grows up in that system would have a chance to compete for WC semis/finals/wins.
At this point I'm just hoping we win 1 World Cup during my lifetime!

Thing is the Mexicans STILL keep on attacking

Such a frustrating game for USA, losing such a key defender 10 minutes in due to injury, nearly missing, and giving up a lead, its like the top three things that piss you off in soccer haha.

It would need just a Barça like style of player production (mass production) and then a lot of high level of play.

Nicely done wp by Mexico for a long time I can say that they played up to expectations. gg
|
g.g. This was the game I was waiting for since the cup started, US - MX other games were just meh
|
Erm, other than this gold cup is there any other soccer that will be played and shown on US televesion? (Other than the females world cup)
|
T_T
if only that guy was 2 inches taller and that goal off the crossbar was 2 inches lower
|
On June 26 2011 11:59 PerkyPenguin wrote: Erm, other than this gold cup is there any other soccer that will be played and shown on US televesion? (Other than the females world cup)
I would think the U-17 World Cup maybe or possibly Cup America U-22 I don't know.
|
Sigh... This was looking so hopefully after the first 24 min. Then we just died. FML.
|
Cherundolo injury was GG. We have no depth at left/right back. If we put in Spector he may have done slightly better than Bornstein but we still would have had problems. Mexico played really well, gotta give them props.
|
Dos Santos' goal was straight up fucking epic.
|
Mexico played well but it was a listless and disappointing performance, especially on defense. We got shredded.
|
Steve going down really hurt our D for USA
It was nice to see someone finally be able to beat defenders off the dribble for the US (Adu).
|
Hmmm...Lichaj could still be the future at left back, but US HAS to find a competent right back. Cherundolo can't keep doing this forever. Boca's also getting kinda old. Onyewu or Ream has gotta step up.
|
Sooo... when are Bradley and Gulati going to be removed like a tumor on US football?
|
Bradley seems to have a knack for doing well enough in tournaments to not get fired without winning anything, so I'm not sure I see him getting fired before 2014.
|
I think Bradley is top notch American player. He's a great holding defense. Plus he made that spectacular first header.
I was there you guys! It was insane!!!! What a game :D:D:D
