I wonder if they will play USF4 or all version goes in tournament now.
But seriously, AE Yun, Vanilla sagat, Super charge characters... damn

But why would you want to practice with a different version of the character than what's currently used? It's not going to help your game. This is like releasing an SC2 map where you can pick Terran with beta WoL Reapers. Who would care? Who would play it?

Like, everyone, because they could like, win?

Like who the fuck would pick any other version of Sagat other than Vanilla if tournaments allow it? It's stupid and pointless to just gimp yourself. You can train with heavier gloves before a fight but if you pick heavier gloves comes fight time everyone is gonna call you stupid.

There's quite a few characters that have a version that's undoubtedly their best forms. Gonna be interesting to see how it's gonna pan out, especially now that everyone knows how to play the game.

It's obviously not going to be legal for tournaments or online play, so I don't even understand what you're saying.

I wouldn't. I would just bust him out for fun playing friends or Everything-goes games. Unless it becomes the standard. Was all character versions legal in ST?

Aside from Akuma, no.

But keep in mind Akuma's special hits just as hard as a normal character's Super, and he wasn't even selectable without special inputs at character select screen lol.

Anyone who believes that this mode would become the tournament default either doesn't go to tournaments, or is a complete idiot. Of course they are going to use the current and most balanced version of the game over some novelty throwback mode.

I'm pretty sure an O. Sagat made top 8 in every ST event ever.

Yeah, I think Cel.erity is unjustifiably downplaying this. Super Turbo allows "old" characters to be picked; knee-jerk calling tournament rules on this one ahead of time is silly. A few years down the line from now, I could definitely see people being allowed to pick an older variant if their Ultra version is widely regarded as pretty bad.

And even if all tourneys will run Ultra only, you better believe money matches and casuals will be enjoyable as hell.

It's possible. Shit was standard with past SF games.

notice the character version at select screen:

To be honest, i dont think there is another character that got hit harder in the tier list standing than Sagat. Went from making top 3 every tourney to getting dropped by people that mained him for the sole reason that you can't win with him anymore, and he wasn't even bad.

Sure, some years down the line anything is possible, but that's only after SF5 comes out and people get bored with playing the game normally. The throwback mode is obviously way less balanced than Ultra, so I don't know how anyone could assume that it would immediately replace Ultra as the tournament standard. And if you do, I will gladly escrow a bet with you for any amount that you can produce.

For casuals, whatever, people can do what they want. Most people use casuals to get better, not mess around with irrelevant characters.

When is it ever about "balance"? If that's the problem we would have been playing supers for the past 3 years. Tournament games are dictated by what people plays, not the other way around.

The only time we ever completely ban a feature from a game is the gems and the only reason why is because it's a money buy features.

Like, why anyone would just assume the mode wouldn't be played when ST was basically the same thing is beyond me.

It's not sure that characters from Vanilla and/or Super would be the best. You'd lose stuff like delayed wake-up, ultra 2 and red focus.

I'm guessing it'll just be Ultra. But darn, that was fun to watch! I kind of wonder if there'll be side tournaments for that or at least money matches or more exhibitions/show matches. Kind of makes me wonder if there ought to be the same thing in StarCraft II for fun at times. For example, a PvP where one player uses WOL Protoss with Vortex (and consequently Archon Toilet) enabled against a HOTS Protoss with Time Warp and more use of the Mothership Core as opposed to a full Mothership.

PS: I don't know who here has heard, but back in the day, qxc had the idea to...how should I say this? Ladder using a fight stick! (Grins) Look at this: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=142825
