Yes, I'm talking about Evil Ryu, and he's my next project. I'm always working on my Sakura, but for the moment I'm satisfied with my Cammy, and my brief foray into picking up Rose again left me with a sour taste. I played her quite a bit in Super, but her Ultra 2 was mad stupid, and 90% of the reason she was so strong in that version. 2012 Rose has got some serious problems. So onward we go, to the next character! If any of you play him at any level, please post everything you know! For the moment I'm just sitting in training mode getting his combos down, and my god do I love his combos. In matches, I'm finding that my fundamentals lack in certain areas - Sakura is a bit silly in some regards, mostly that she can get away with not respecting a lot of anti-airs. If you ain't invincible up to and including your first active frame, chances are I'm gonna find a way to stuff your shit with her j.fp. Evil Ryu doesn't have that luxury, and his teleport sucks (can he cancel his teleport into Ultra like Akuma?!?!), so I find I have to play a much more stable ground game, patiently bullying people to the corner with his c.mk. Whenever I get excited about a new character I tend to go really hard. My Cammy has some outlandishly ambiguous setups, and I've got unblockables and crossup divekicks to boot. All of which was found the old-fashioned way, learning by brute force and sheer hours in training mode. I'm looking forward to doing the same with Evil Ryu. Oh, and Sako's Evil Ryu is SUCH A TREAT OMG

He's not really the character you see often pass the new and medium players that just pick him because he looks cool. :/ Honestly, when I play against him, it's pretty much the same thing as playing against Ryu + be wary of Axe Kick as combo ender.

![]() "quick sakura note: dieminion believes vega destroys sakura. I am seriously the only person who thinks that's a losing matchup for vega... i guess i should listen to people lol As for evil ryu, well, I'm sure if you guys saw Sako video he probably has way more tech than I do. The best way I can convey my understanding of Evil ryu is to say that with meter, if evil ryu wants big damage, he's going to get it. corner carry and untechable knockdown set ups aren't really his thing, if you compare them to Ken and Ryu who are good at those things, respectively. But Evil ryu is always going to be able to hit you, REALLY freaking hard if he wants to. How he makes a decision on doing this depends on two things: 1, if you're falling for kara throw mixups and get hit by a straight up cl fp xx mk axe kick, or a focus attack, or 2, if spending the meter on the big damage is worth it at this point in time. Because spending meter on damage is evil ryu's thing. if you think about it, ryu spends meter on ex fireballs and shoryu FADC most of the time, and while evil ryu can shoryu fadc as well, his ex fireballs aren't as good as ryu's. ken spends meter on ex tatsu and ex shoryuken, and ex hadouken too, and shoryu fadc. but evil ryu is better suited to fadcing axe kicks or fireballs in hit confirms into huge damage. just try and think of him that way. Evil ryu with meter is scary. Without, not. but at the same time, you don't have the option of drawing meter out of him by forcing him to rely on his EX moves because they aren't good enough for him to want to do that. raging demons and all are great as well but just not necessary. he has decent footsies as well, but definitely not on ryu's level, so here is where he is probably going to get exposed. he has to move in and make sure c. mk's are well spaced which is kind of tough because they're slow, but any time they connect is good because of the fireball blockstring he possess off of c. mk. the rest - sweep, c. mp, and st. mp, are all pretty standard footsie moves and not that good. To make up for it, he has an amazing focus. react with two hit moves and take away the c. mk option and he HAS to get in. several characters, charge characters specifically, do this pretty easily. Once you have evil ryu jumping at you you know he is reaching. To balance this lack of approachability he has the best walk speed aside from akuma. Considering he also has 50 more health and stun, FADC ultra off of shoryu, and bigger damage in general, this is probably his most unknown but most useful asset. a good evil ryu will move around a lot and space those fireballs more efficiently than a bad one. and once someone moves into the range he is comfortable at, he'll make a gamble immediately using either focus or c. mk. he definitely has holes in his game, unlike ryu, who is a jack of all trades. ken has holes in his game too, but more to do with damage potential and approachability, like evil ryu. the difference is when evil ryu gets in it ALWAYS hurts more. of course, evil ryu basically trades 100 health for a more respectable fireball game, and a teleport, for whatever that's worth. Oni is just a weird pressure-oriented shoto who can rack up big damage fast, but is below average at everything else, and akuma is akuma. if you want to beat evil ryu, just be aware of his movement capabilities and the fact he relies on meter for big damage. clam up when you have to and play a good defensive game, because he's not going to get big damage back by passive aggressively pressuring you like ryu can. he'll get it by forcing the issue. and if you're aware of that and take it to him on his way in, which is a gamble i'd suggest making, he will struggle. another thing to be wary of with evil ryu is his kara throw. same as ryu's, but the risk is higher. evil ryu with meter is going to have a more powerful mixup than ryu, and the crossups after a kara throw are going to hurt more. and because evil ryu has good walk speed, he might have an easier time making kara throws work. you just need to respect evil ryu, but at the same time, play at his weaknesses, because they do exist. he's a decent character and it's possible he's the best shoto aside from akuma but definitely an interesting character at the same time. him and oni are easily my most favorite shotos to play" taken from SRK's Calgary thread here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/174121/calgary-thread-2013/p117

![]() should i just post here or make a blog? likely we'll have a stream, so I can (hopefully) get a ton of matches in and post the archives with timestamps. Don't expect too much though, this is literally day one and i'm leaning on my half-baked fundamentals and relatively good execution to carry me

That j.hp is really really good but so is Ryu's j.hp and nobody says anything about that. Her mixups and ambiguous crossups are really good but so are a lot of other characters' because that's what the game has (d)evolved into.

Oh, and Sako's Evil Ryu is SUCH A TREAT OMG Well this is quite an amusing coincidence, you and I play the exact same characters lol. Since super, I’ve mained Cammy and played Rose secondary. I picked up Sakura as a 3rd just because she became TL’s character, however long ago that was. A couple months ago I started playing this game again after not having played for about half a year and decided to learn a new character. Picked up Evil Ryu because I was inspired at one point by an Evil Ryu player who was destroying me in casuals. This was 2 weeks before I found out Sako played this character, much to my delight. As far as tech goes, I know that U2 catches backdash though I haven’t tested it against Chun/Rose. It also increases Evil Ryu’s anti-air range by a ton (makes divekickers think twice about jumping fireballs then divekicking to bait dp). Something I didn’t know about until I watched Sako vs Xian is that c.mk xx fb fadc U2 works, I always thought it had to be ex fb to get U2 to connect but I guess if c.mk hits at max distance it still works(?). He has an unblockable against Cammy that involves j.hk, I don’t remember the exact setup but it’s probably on srk somewhere. It’s really annoying as a Cammy player because she’s 1 of the 5 characters that Evil Ryu can get light tatsu sweep. All his tech just seems to work against her lol. FakeSteve I’m sure you’ll find a lot more than me so I’d love to read your updates as well. I’ll contribute whenever I can but I’ll probably just end up asking questions. ![]()

There's also a guy called TheLeftHandedMonkey that has a extremly solid XboxLive E.Ryu, he's helped me out with my E.Ryu a few times with pointers on some of E.Ryu's tricky matchups, you can find him at eighter his Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheLeftHandedMonkey and you can find his Facebook & Twitter acc in the comment section of his video's, he's a very friendly guy and most likely your best bet for some solid advice. Outside of that, there isnt much i can tell you outside, get really friendly with cMK xx Plasma

Against EX-Shoryuken a fully charged ultra 1 is guaranteed(me developing it doesn't mean it was I who invented it, just that I figured it out myself). It feels quite useful for the matchup. and then akuma teleports frontwards and gives you a taste of his own ultra ^^
