I mean sure I may be annoyed at the lack of options I have on oki when faced with a safe-jump//crossup mixup (block and raw super) but getting guile into that situation is pretty hard because of his sick awesome normals and stupid-safe fireball.

Also, I have the PC version, is it worthwhile to learn the controls on a keyboard? I'm tight with money atm so buying a stick is not an option. The Ibuki guide in the last few posts got me intrigued, so I'll try to learn her. She always seemed so cool on tournaments, smashing faces with the vortex play. Keyboard is fine -- take it from a C. Viper and Gen player. In fact, in some ways it's better than a game pad. You'll want to set the keys up to something like WASD for movement and UIO/HJK for punches/kicks. This is the closest you'll get to an arcade setup, which would help you transition to stick later on.[/QUOTE] As another player who is thinking of picking up the game as well, thanks for the tips. And I'm only playing to have fun, so keyboard will be more than fine for me.

Having identical muscle memory for left and right is quite sick.

Yesterday I took part in my first fighting game tournament (SF4, ~17 participants). I was out in two games basically. I played Cody. In my first game I could take a round in both matches, but I lost 2-0 to a Makoto (that guy played a lot of other chars too). I dropped a lot of combos, a lot of things didn't come out as I wanted (basic c.LP c.LP c.LK LP criminal upper mainly) In the losers I played a Dan player who raped me in 4 straight rounds. That was a bit depressing. At least both of my opponents placed high ( around 4th place). My game knowledge of SF4 is quite poor and Dan is not the kind of char who is intuitive to play against, I found. Overall it was an interesting experience. I have a strange execution problem on stick. After Cody's c.LK a lot of times the special doesn't come out, even though in training mode I can see that my inputs are correct. This is usually when I have the stick in a down position already, like c.LP c.LP c.LK CU. If I do it from neutral position, like s.MP c.LK CU it does come out almost 10 of 10 times. Very strange, anybody else had similar issues?

why? Because you are used to not being able to do it. The chain combo looks the same, does the same thing, and the player uses it with same intention as the link version except that you apparently cannot special cancel out of it (thanks again for illuminating me). Chains into specials work well enough in Guilty Gear and in other games.

If chained lights canceled into specials every combo would be mash LP into a hard hitting special. The ability to link requires a bit more patience, timing, and practice. It's balanced around the fact that you can't do this. Other games may not function the same way, but they're designed around it. Each game's different.

Chains into specials work well enough in Guilty Gear and in other games. If it really troubles you, switch to cLP cLP (cLP) cMP which is really easy too. You won't encounter the "chain effect" so you'd have to link in order to combo.
