Nagoya Street Battle!
Also they have a stream of AE2012 with new changes
I'm reading comments about pressing 3 Punches and start on character select, what the hell is that about?

for some reason i remember reading that he didn't even try out for SBO like a number of other top players?

if by "try out" you mean "qualify" then yes he didn't qualify till the double LCQs held before SBO
i dunno the actual results but i wouldn't be surprised if Daigo/Iyo didn't win the actual LCQ so Tougeki threw a last-er chance "qualifier," as I'm pretty sure 2x LCQ isn't standard also convenient that the "error" of having too many teams didn't pit the LCQ winners against each other in a last-est chance qualifier
but it's ok because I never thought Daigo "The Underdog" Umehara would ever live the dream of qualifying for SBO and like many members of the FGC I am so glad we got to hear about him playing at SBO, if only we had a watchable stream but alas such things are a fool's notion

So I am learning how to do Tsumuji loops.
This link...makes me want to punch a kitten. The way the move works means the timing is so slightly different on just about every character it feels like and the attack is just .. weird.
I hate this fucking link, I hope it burns in hell. Sakura's Tatsu shenanigans were easier than this nonsense.

So, I feel like I've improved a lot over the past week or two. I've settled on Rose. I'm pretty comfortable with my normals.Learned how to cancel today, albeit I hadn't played to do so.
I still feel like my defense is weak.. I'm still uncomfortable with my offensive, but I guess this part is just practicing and recognizing my opportunities?
Any tips on where to go from here? Should I just play online to get experience or spend more time in training?

Both, spend time in training to practice execution and any new setups you might've picked up from the net, then play online since that's the only real way to actually apply what you've practiced and also figure out what you need to work on.
What I used to do was spend about 20-30 mins in training mode just practicing some bnb combos (I stay longer if I want to try new stuff) then get online and play for a much longer time. Now that I've learned most of the essential stuff of my character, I mostly just head for ranked/endless matches right away, but I do still hit training mode from time to time when I'm trying to incorporate new stuff into my play. In general tho, I've spent much more time playing people than in training mode, and it helps heaps.

Okay. I found a list of combos on eventhub and the bnb looks pretty easy... I just noticed I was doing one of them, but with cr.MK instead of cr.MP.

Rose is a really hard character to play with little reward (pretty low tier and a lot of bad match ups). Her hit confirms have like 2 1 frame links (better learn to plink) i believe and her wake up options are pretty much just back dash or ex spiral and hope you don't get thrown as you FADC and burn 3 bars. Just a little rant on how bad i think rose is now but if you like the character and are willing to learn, its all good.

I know she's not top tier, but I find her fun to play. ^^; I have a tendency to pick low tier characters, because it's less frustrating to know you lost because you're low tier (though I'm aware that tiers don't make much of a difference at lower levels), than trying to learn a high tier character and losing (and that happens a lot while learning...)

Viper seems really strong if played well, wonder why you don't see her very often in the Japanese scene.

Some just have more tools. I consider Viper, Ibuki, and to a lesser extent Sakura (sup uryo) to be hugely under estimated.
