Anyways I'm playing some AE on PC right now, first match Gief vs Akuma, got zoned to hell Now I'm on a small upswing, winning some pretty close matches so I'm feeling ogod for once, not sure if I should quit while I'm ahead or keep playing and end up salty as hell

I read comments such as that and I just don't understand. Are there a few characters who are clearly better than the rest? I understand tiers because I used to play SSB melee but are there match ups that are pretty much unwinnable? I'm especially eerie of characters that become available via DLC. I want to play a game that is current and will remain current. I understand the arcade edition just came out but is there a chance of a new street fighter or game coming out? I'm not trying to buy a game, get good at it, then have to play a whole new game in three months. Also should I invest in a pad? Never played in arcades and I barely play console games at that so neither a controller nor joystick are especially comfortable for me. What is the exact reasons most people prefer the pad? The preciceness of movements? Do appreciate all of your input. Thank you.

aside from maybe GGAC, SSF4 was probably the most balanced 2d fighter (no fighter has ever been perfect but god it was close). the AE iteration detracted from that however and has quite a bit more character bottleneck with a glaring god tier as well (he is still not as bad as vanilla sagat though). there's no denying that AE was for sure a step backwards though. There will always be some characters that shit on others and weird match ups, as with any game. They're planning on releasing a balance patch so don't let that hold you back. The next game coming out is Street Fighter X Tekken (I believe), I don't think that will replace AE any time soon. Even if it did, All the skill you build with playing AE will transfer over. As with any other fighting game, Imo. If you are not particular to either, I would suggest investing in a Fight Stick. I've had mine for a while and I'm still not completely used to it like I should be.

The upcoming SFxT should be pretty close to SF4 in terms of gameplay, but MvC3 is a different beast. Of course the basic mechanical skills apply to both, QC/DP motions etc, but being good in SF4 doesn't really stop you from getting dominated in MvC3. It's still a fun game and worth learning though, it just requires its own hours spent in training mode.

Footsies, spacing, blocking etc. look very similar in the videos I've seen so far. Tag combos are of course new, but they're not the whole game. e: I guess it looks so similar because everyone plays it like it's SF4, I suppose the metagame will evolve once the game is actually out.
