I know how you feel man, was stuck on that for a while. Once I got it I felt so stupid for not trying it the first time around.
Also, huge mind blowing spoiler (not relevant to the stage I quoted) that somebody pointed out on /v/. + Show Spoiler +![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/mrsZ5.jpg) It's bring your daughter to work day, it uses a special material from Dad's work (see above procedures),it says by Chell, and has grown due to it being there for such a long time. Chell = Cave Johnson's Daughter?

It's fine, we can disagree. I'm glad you enjoyed it a lot, I was just hoping to enjoy it more myself. As for the puzzles I felt more clever solving the ones in Portal 1. In Portal 2 a lot of the concepts were reused (of course) but they weren't really expanded upon. I liked the new mechanics they introduce, but they don't develop them very much. Portal 1 had a constant progression whereas Portal 2 constantly resets and replaces the old mechanics with the new ones, they don't come together to create really complex puzzles. Like I said, I didn't get the satisfaction from solving the puzzles like I did in the first game, or even a game like Braid. Maybe you can somehow prove that the puzzles were easier in the first game, but this time around I'm more familiar with the portal mechanics so it evens out.

Right on the Steam page for the game, they mention there will be editing tools made available sometime after launch. So at the very least everyone will have some custom maps to play after the community gets a hold of the editor/SDK.
The game may have been a little short, but in a few months there could be tons of content that will extend playtime several times over.

Finished it in 4 hours. Let's see what else is here, try some of the challenge chambers maybe (remember those, from portal 1?). Guess what, they removed them. They didn't even bother copying the actual chambers from the game and adding a timer/step counter/portal counter to them. So I check co-op, and the first thing that catches my eye is robot enhancement. It has a god damn store. You can buy stupid looking hats for your fucking portal character, for dollars.
I haven't actually played through co-op yet because I'm waiting for a friend, but as far as single player goes:
Narrative/writing/story 10/10 Amount of content: -10,000/10. Would have been 0/10, but they removed a feature from the previous portal so fuck them.
"You buy the product, you get the content ... We make more money because more people buy it, not because we try and nickel-and-dime the same customers." - Robin Walker, Valve Software, 2007.
Whelp, guess not.
Any chance you played 28 hours straight and was having so much fun you didn't realize it?

You know they're all going to give the game a super high score in advance because of the hype, it's like they're all lining up to suck Valve's d***. Maybe it's because they have to play so many shitty games in their line of work that they appreciate the good ones that much more, but here's one review quote: Portal is perfect. Portal 2 is not. It's something better than that. Really? Maybe it's the fact that reviewing video games is a shitty job so they only get mediocre people doing it. Finally someone logical... Such a hype game that it is almost disgusting... There is a general statement that usually a sequel, expansion, or addition to a series is never better or even close to that of the original, which proves true again here. Its an OK game, not worth the money it costs, and defiantly a forced title. My opinion on the new generation of games is focused on better graphics at the cost of gameplay. Rofl really? The graphics were barely better than Portal 1, while the gameplay was, imo, far superior. The puzzles were very cool for the most part, and there are a lot more devices and cool stuff that could easily be implemented in the future.
That being said, if an expansion pack consisting of no more than 10 "advanced" chambers gets released for anything more than $5, I WILL rage, because, tbh, it wasn't long enough for a $50 game.

Maybe you can somehow prove that the puzzles were easier in the first game, but this time around I'm more familiar with the portal mechanics so it evens out. I guess I can see your point about not being a level where all the different mechanics come together into one absolute climax but it'd be very hard to do that without turning it into a clusterfuck. It's also very hard to make a game of 6-8 hours worth of campaign to have levels constantly progressing in difficulty level.
Portal 1 pulled portals extremely far and did it very well, but I think it would be impossible for anyone to build on the original Portal without adding extra mechanics. They had already more-or-less exhausted the Portal concept and Portal 2 would have been a very boring game if no new mechanics were implemented.
IMO.
edit: Regarding your last sentence, I'm not sure I completely understand what you mean. But yes I'm saying that Portal 2 is much harder than Portal 1, but simply because we're familiar with Portal 1, Portal 2 became semi-predictable and seemed easier. Example in spoiler: + Show Spoiler +In original Portal, final level, we had to create a portal and make the rocket launcher guy shoot a rocket into the cube tube to make a hole so a companion cube would drop out. That may have taken me an hour to figure out. In Portal 2, once I saw the explosives and the tube of orange gel I figured it out instantly.

I loved the game, mostly because of the awesome script tho. I found the puzzels to be simple and the game to be short (Single player atleast). I hope they will add ''create a map'' and ''Share custom map'' in the future tho, that would be awesome. Well worth the money tho.

I dunno, I felt very proud of myself when I figured out the first light bridge puzzle.

I feel that the co-op mode is well worth a chunk of that $40. I haven't even gotten past chapter 2 yet in the story, but the co-op mode...
Only caveat to that is that you need a partner clicks with you. As in, screaming over skype "OHNOOHNOOHNO!!!!"

Beat the single player in about 5 hours - was slightly annoyed at the brevity, but definitely not at the story/pacing/characters/anything else, really. I have not played the co-op because I'm waiting for my friend to finish finals so we can play it together (and hopefully not hate each other by the end of it, lol)

I have only beaten the single player so far and I loved it. The only thing I really disliked was the + Show Spoiler + final boss battle. It felt almost exactly like the boss battle in portal 1, except shorter and easier. I wish they had a more original and epic fight to end with.

Single player took me 8 hours with some downtime. Like someone who showed that 1 level that he got stuck on, it took me a while. However I didn't try to speed through it. I was listening to all the lines (if you exit too quickly, you miss some lines of funny) and got most of the easter eggs and hidden story stuff.
I am 100% content with this game. Decent puzzles, and soooooooooooo many of them. I haven't played coop yet, but will be doing so after I watch Code A from yesterday.

I finished both the single player and coop last night. Although I fully enjoyed the game, it (of course) could not live up to the hype it was given, which leaves me with a bittersweet taste.

Just played the coop with a friend, and its great! Definetily a recommendation!

Just beat single player and co-op mode. Great game and i recommend you all to play both through The credit music is great as always.
Valve did a great job. Here's to hoping for a Portal 3!

SteamID is the same as my TL name if someone wants to play co-op later :-)

I hate it, because my bonus pool is going to skyrocket now.

What's with the bitching about the game length? Seems pretty typical for this type of game.
If you want 100 hours of single player go play a Japanese RPG.

+ Show Spoiler +Yeah, but what followed it was fucking awesome. Killing the end boss by going through a portal to the moon and taking him with you only to be saved at the last second by your mortal enemy turned BFF? So damn cool.

Yeah, I don't know if people realize this but if I remember correctly there was a guy who beat the original game in 15 minutes? And it took ~7 and a half hours for me to beat Portal 2 so...

just beat the co-op last night, was a blast. But to me the single player is where its at, the writing is brilliant and hilarious, in fact its probably the funniest game i have played in years. great puzzles, great writing, truly a unique experience.
