Holy shit. Mavs. Everything went perfectly for them in the last 10 minutes. I'm so proud of my boys!!!! I was watching the game with my friends and we couldnt stop yelling as the Mavs made their comeback. That game is like what the announcer said, legendary.

Basketball is a much better and much more watchable product since the rule changes. This concept of "soft" is so couched in nostalgia, revisionist history and vague xenophobia. Nobody should enjoy 1990's basketball (except Jordan and Olajuwan) more than they enjoy basketball now. The game is more fluid and easier to watch.

This series reminds me of the heat mavs finals where every time anyone looked at wade he got free throws.
Also love the non call at chandler kicking at where durants head just was earlier in the game. hahah frustrated okc fan spotted.. sorry the only legit offensive facilitator on that team is a harden and the thunder cant score a point without him on the floor. You want free calls? watch dwade. and be a little less biased rofl Once again portland fan, dissapointed west fan though as dirks shooting has been the only noteworthy thing happening in this series, I would love to see dirk and kidd as well as terry win a ring but i have been dissapointed in the shit reffing the nba has had for the past 10 or so years since they gave offensive players free reign. He's got a point, go watch some Knicks/Heat/Bulls Series from the mid 90's. The game is virtually unrecognizable from those days. And it really did have it's charm. Anyways, nice post, good and useful.

But remember, Boston and Chicago both won their regular season series vs Miami. The Heat have obviously figured something out in the playoffs that they were missing a few months ago.

I wasn't dissing on Durant. He's really great and seem to have a good personality. Kinda reminds me of Dirk 2.0 . I was just pitying on him cuz he really was disappointed.

reg season =/= playoffs. Bulls were a pretty easily 3-0 over heat. Sadly dallas doesn't match up there for a playoff series against the heat. Marion, dirk and peja cant match up with lebron, and kidd playing allows them to use bibby a lot more. If you have watched much mavs basketball dirk isn't nearly as good when he has to play d. Against the thunder he can sit on collison, ibaka etc and half ass it. And secondly dirk still is soft on the boards, he will get outrebounded by bosh and haslem no problem and i don't see the heat bailing them out as the thunder did consistently. But then again with dirk shooting so hot and the calls he gets he could carry hard.

Well obviously i am happy to be on the winner's side. I don't need to show empathy in order to hold great respect for Durant. But well, respect doesn't translate well over the internet

Are you serious? The game is so disjointed now with the amount of calls. Add to that by adding more calls to be called it allows bigger inconsistency in reffing leaving defense even weaker since players rarely know what the boundaries are anymore. I live on the west coast but enjoy watching the eastern playoffs much more since they call it much looser and allow them to play. There is a reason viewing numbers dropped off after the changes, people don't want to watch all star rules every weak.

I hate talking about refereeing but you are letting recent events cloud the reality. NBA basketball in the 90s was aesthetically awful. It wasn't even especially "fundamental." Players were straight up dirty. EVERYONE played like Robert Horry and John Stark, it was awful. It made offense incredibly difficult to execute.
Jordan and Pippen were the one of the greatest defensive tandem in NBA history but they could not get away with a lot of what they did in the 90s. That's not to take away from them, it actually makes Jordan even more impressive, but it was ugly to watch. But if you preferred it, that's an opinion, I guess.

The refereeing now is way more subjective because of the rule changes. I'm a Bulls fan, and I watched this game and I've watched this series, and there is no way Dallas should ever shoot more FTs than OKC. In fact, they should rarely shoot half as many FTs as OKC. Westbrook gets into the lane more than any other player in this series and Dallas is getting away with a lot on him. Dirk can draw legit fouls, but he only plays "that way" 2-3 possessions a half. Obviously Durant and Harden can get to the rack and create off the dribble.
All in all you have 3 players on OKC who should be high volume FT shooters and one on Dallas. The only other guy on the Mavs who deserves FTs is Barea, but just as often he just get flat out rejected because he is so short.
I really wish there was a 1 hour show, the morning after on ESPN/TNT called "Chart the Calls" or something. It would have to be run by some guy not NBA affiliated. The NBA would never go for it, but it would be the best thing for the league. Also it would really help to be able to get away from people pointing at one or two legit calls, or FT totals. Some teams just DESERVE more FTs than other teams. The Thunder, Heat, and Bulls all are teams that should routinely draw more fouls than the Mavs. Against the Mavs I could see the Heat legitimately drawing 50 + FTs in a game.
