Sure seems like Tribes to me, granted I only played S:T and T2 way back in the day but this is still Tribes. Sure there are some issues but at least Hi Rez is listening and working on things. I have no idea what game you played if this isn't Tribes 'in any way'.
The absolute most important thing about this new game is keeping the same gameplay and feel of Tribes while making it popular with the masses. Tribes: Ascend can't be a Tribes 2 clone, it just can't or a couple hundred people would love it and it would quickly stagnate and die cause no new blood would give a shit. Although a lot of people would prefer that nothing changed, this is a new generation of game development, you have to take the bad with the good and be willing to concede some things for the greater good of the game.
Don't get me wrong, there are some fairly large issues facing Tribes and Hi Rez and how they handle them will be telling about the future of Tribes. But remember IT"S IN BETA FOR FUCKS SAKE.
No one will play the game a year from now, so theres that.
I played Tribes 1 and 2 religiously. Im pretty happy with Ascend, especially compared to Vengeance. It could use some tweaks but its still beta and so far Hi-Rez has been making some great patching decisions. I have faith in them.

Basically the starter gun you get requires a ridiculous amount of aim with everyone moving around so fast including yourself. Its pretty much a terrible experience for a newb. You have to get use to the movement + enemy movement + leading your aim tremedously with the starter gun from the very start with no introduction to ease you in. Played for like an hour and I got 3 kills, which were pretty random.
Also people just stack teams in the servers.

You can get a tribes beta key by liking them on facebook.
So the game is bad...because you're bad?
I dont think he said the game is bad, just that he didnt like it. Its definitely not newb friendly, you can't deny that.
@Fruscainte Im sorry that you dont really like the game but I suggest you just keep at it. Especially since its only the beta, you know a ton of the people playing are Tribes fans from way back in the day. Once the game is released, I bet theyll have more in depth training levels and a bunch more newbs will probably be playing too. Keep giving it a shot. It takes a while but becoming good at anything difficult is pretty satisfying and fun once you get into rhythm.

Yeah I agree, this game would be even better if we had at least 5-6 people coordinating things on a team. I just don't know the best way to make this happen easily is. My in game name is Charger though.
Oh, and there are different servers too so EU guys probably wouldn't want to play on NA East/West and likewise the NA guys probably wouldn't want to play on the EU server.
Another possible issue is communicating in game can be a pain in the ass as usually I'm skiing around and don't have time for anything but a few VGS's :p
really fun game so far, although i don't really enjoy crossfire as much as the night map. I personally have found it not that hard to learn how to ski decently and aim in front of the people. Maybe it's just me, i hope that it continues to improve because if i can't make NASL for sc2 i might as well try for tribes :p jokes, but i can still dream
Patch Notes for December 21, 2011 Tribes Closed Beta Version 0.1.635.0 Major Highlights Bella Omega has been added to the Team Deathmatch rotation. Variety of changes to fully automatic projectile weapons (see below). Significant updates to Spectator support (see below). Variety of different performance optimizations (both client and server). More are planned for future patches. Balance Items Several visual changes and general balance adjustments designed to help increase player accuracy with fully automatic projectile weapons. Damage adjustments also made to these weapons taking into account increased player hit rates. Affected weapons: Infiltrator’s Rhino SMG Infiltrator’s SN7 Technician’s TCN4 SMG Ranger’s Assault Rifle Doombringer’s Chaingun Raider’s NJ4 SMG. Spectator Changes
Added cinematic movement to bookmarked cameras. Spectator camera tweens between view targets if it has clear line of sight, otherwise it snaps to the new view. Spectating players can bind what they are viewing to keys (default, NumPad0 through NumPad9). While spectating, press Alt+NumPad to bind the current view target. Now when you press NumPad, the bound target will become your current view target. Note that you cannot bind while in free cam “ghost” mode; you must be actively focused on a target. Spotted targets from other players will no longer show in Spectator mode. Team announcers no longer play for spectating players. Many team messages were formatted so that the messages no longer refer to “friendly” and “enemy” teams; they now refer to “Diamond Sword” and “Blood Eagle” when appropriate. Added more information panels for vehicles, objectives, flags, free cam, and camera bookmarks. Fixed an issue where some of the spectator HUD elements could remain if exiting spectator mode. When in free cam “ghost” mode, a reticule now displays. Clicking left mouse (default) over a player or vehicle within the reticule will set them to the current view target. Toggling the scoreboard in spectator mode will now hide the spectator information panels. While viewing a target, an attempt to move in a direction (default, W,A,S,D,Q,E) will unlock the spectator from the target and enter free cam “ghost” mode Added a new controls screen. Toggle it on and off with Z (default). Additional Items
Tweaks to skiing physics based on playtesting feedback. Username and password are now remembered when selecting the ‘Remember Me’ checkbox at login. In addition, the last played class and gametype are saved. Fixed an issue where the Field of View (FOV) would not reset back to the correct value after leaving a vehicle. Significant updates to Bella Omega CTF. (Additional updates should be expected in future patches. Please report collision issues or other problems). Drydock Night map has had some visual and shader performance improvements. Fixed an issue where committing suicide after taking damage in TDM was not properly deducting points. Reticule adjustments for rapid-fire projectile weapons. A number of changes to backend server systems.. Known Issues
Stats for Kill Distance and Distance Traveled are not showing the correct values..
I'm still waiting for the patch notes that say something like this:
Made improvements to our graphics engine so that it no longer sucks balls and inexplicably causes people to have to play at 20 FPS on the Unreal 3 engine that was released 5 years ago.
Man, the things that I'll be able to do once I get a good, consistent frame rate.

You can't be a T2 veteran from renegades. That's like calling yourself a SC2 pro because you play a lot of Aiur Chef.
um...yes i can. T2 ren was highly competitive on TWL, I ran my own 10v10 ladder clan for over a year. some of our matches were broadcasted on t2tv. i also went to JobiLAN in VA and played a lot of classic. i'm definitely a vet and would be happy to play you 1v1 to prove you otherwise

haha, well, agree to disagree. It had 1/30th the player base of the main competition. Duel mod is also a horrible way to show your prowess in CTF, but I'll gladly 1v1 as long as it's not on renegades mod

But to say t2 ren is the equivalent of Auir Chef in sc2 is a dishonest mischaracterization. T2 ren had all the same basic gameplay as base and classic, just with additional weapons, turrets and vehicles. I wasn't making food...haha. Also, sure, it didn't have the same player base...but tribes never had the same player base as a game like battlefield or call of duty. Do more players in a game mean you're a better player?
