so i've been playing various classes and so far what i like to do is:
CTF - Pathfinder. I like to be the flag carrier in CTF, since I am able to ski very well (thx to my surfing days in CS) and playing a light mobile class here is very fun to me. I play Inf sometimes but I suck shit with automatic guns so yeah lol.
TDM - Jug all the way. I used to play Path here too but I hated getting 1-shot by heavy's. I love the Jug and almost always am top 3 on my team with kills, so beefy and you can actually ski pretty good with him on the larger TDM map, I can average probably a 120-130 ski with heavy there which ain't too bad I don't think.
I really want to learn how to play the classes with auto's, but god I try and it seems like I just don't get it.
Edit: also, should one use mouse smoothing or not?

I'm starting to get the feeling I'm being punished for capping at high speeds. Since higher speeds = more air= all sentinels kill you instantly. It's really starting to piss me off.

Not sure if soliciting is illegal here, but if anyone wants into the Tribes beta and has a DOTA2 key kicking around I'd love to trade

I think the going exchange rate is around 150 Tribes keys per Dota 2 key

I don't think there is a route where a sentinel sitting as his base can't snipe you from. Was playing against a team with 3 sentinels spread around the base earlier and you could literally get nowhere with the flag since the maps are so flat.

They'll have a chance to snipe you on any route but past a certain point they won't be able to.

If you swing wide on any of the maps, you should be able to get out of the line of sight of snipers pretty quickly. The only exception is Crossfire. Even so, you should expect to have a rough time capping if you're charging into a set and unmolested defense. You need your teammates to disrupt the snipers and prevent them from teeing off on you.

Really dont like this game. No tutorial and its really complicated? Everyone moves around really fast and erratic. Basically the starter gun you get requires a ridiculous amount of aim with everyone moving around so fast including yourself. Its pretty much a terrible experience for a newb. You have to get use to the movement + enemy movement + leading your aim tremedously with the starter gun from the very start with no introduction to ease you in. Played for like an hour and I got 3 kills, which were pretty random.
Also people just stack teams in the servers.

You can get a tribes beta key by liking them on facebook.

The teamstacking is a bit of a problem, but everything else that you listed as problems are precisely why people love tribes. As I have said as nauseum, tribes is HARD. It's not something that a new player can just pick up and be good at. It takes a lot of practice. I hope you stick with it, though. Tribes is incredibly rewarding to play once you get the hang of it.

righto just started playing.
level 6, LOVE IT.
gotten OKish at ski'ing managing around 200~kph with my soldier, cant wait for pathfinder so i can break that record.
getting much better at aiming (even getting around 2-3 air shots a game now )
i have to say in TDM, i never thought playing chasy could be this much fun.

I felt the same way the first few hours. But then I got used to the game and it became a lot more fun. The Soldier is much more noob friendly than the Ranger. And I'd also recommend that you play Capture the flag, it's just a hundred times more fun and has a lot more different things you can do. Team Deathmatch is just kinda boring IMO.

If you know where they are, you can predict their FoV since the shots have trails on them. That's how i deal with them.

I just got the beta for this game and I think it is the saviour of competitive FPS. I cannot express how much I hate the slow, boring crap that is CoD, Halo etc., and I always thought that Quake was the only FPS that could be competitive, because it was really fast and difficult. I understand that there is CS, but from my small understanding that is more difficult in terms of strategy/econ etc., not speed, though it can be fast at times (srsly don't flame me for not understanding CS lol)
My mind was just changed within about 20 seconds of playing this game. I had seen beta footage of Tribes: Ascend and I thought it looked pretty cool, but I didn't really look into it any more than that. Then I saw the Lo3 episode at NASL where they announced that it would be the next game in the NASL and I signed up for the beta. I just got the email and downloaded the game, and set it up. It feels so amazing to just move in this game, which means that when you move and do other stuff its even more amazing :D :D :D :D
I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm just going to play this for the rest of the holidays :D
In case you can't tell I'm kinda happy about this lol

I FINALLY unlocked sentinel...I've been working on it this entire time lol
Sniping can be tricky, especially since it seems people lag a bit at extreme range, but the class is still SO strong with its ability to bring down cappers. If I land one shot on a fleeing pathfinder, he's basically entirely screwed and will be sprayed down by AR/Pistol.
Yeah, you are almost completely useless if you get jumped by a soldier or whatever, but it doesn't matter at all. The respawn is so fast and in many maps you can snipe a capper directly from spawn. I don't care how many times I die, it barely effects my ability to do my role.
Someone posted a 993 snipe a while back, just picked this one up
