What are demos? It just recorded everything you did in a match from 1st person. It was a great way to teach people, check for cheats, and a number of other things. Bart basically said they weren't coming when he said "we never promised demos or anything". That statement is a large part of why teams are pulling out after fpsgeneral/NASL or already have like WAI.

Okay I can see this being relevant in a pre-youtube, pre-stream era, but why is it so essential nowadays?
|
With a demo you are not locked with one given perspective. You can fly around freely, or change to another player. That way you can rewatch things you may have missed the first time, or things happening at the same time. Demos are usually also very small in file size and the quality isn't dependant of the person recording it.

Because in a league you can't exactly force everyone to stream/record while playing. Its useful to find flaws in a teams strategy (for the team or an opposing one) as well as finding cheaters. Requiring everyone to stream/record isn't possible due to internet/computer limitations. No it isn't going to help pub players at all, they really don't care.
Basically think of how starcraft would be without replays. Demos in tribes are basically equivalent to replays.

It wasn't that way in t1/t2 unless you hacked the demo (which only a few people could do) but yeah they could definitely do that.

I see where you're going. Thanks!

If I want to make a demo in Tribes 2, I hit 1 key to start it and that's that. It has a very small file size so it's incredibly easy to send to anyone or upload anywhere, and it gives people an in-game first person perspective which is much nicer when trying to learn anything in the game.
What if you wanted to share a sc2 game with your friend and there were no replays? You'd have to go to the trouble of getting a third party program to pre-record every game you play, and then it would just be a video, not the real thing you could see in game.
oops i got beaten to it.

Most IDK guys are bored of this game as well, however tournaments are free money for 'em(even more now that top teams are quitting) so it makes sense they milk the money HR is giving 'em. Many are looking into shootmania and few are already testing it, me being one of 'em and I can safely say I'm not coming back to tribes anytime soon.

Well I'd imagine Razer contracted them so I think they have to play Tribes. Btw whats your IGN in game?

Can anyone please update me to whats the state the game is currently in, if its not too much to ask? Unfortunatelly i dont have acess to a comptuer and im sort of in the dark about anything game related.
I did skim a bit trough the official forums, clan forums and here. Seeing these forums are kind of dead I figured the game is not in a good place. What i am asking is basically did the game go trough a mass exodus of players, comp and casual ones?
This topic used to be bumped all the time and its kinda sad how theres noone talking about the game nowadays.

I play this game casually, but not so lately. not sure about the general opinion of the players but the lack of a proper system that isolates players based on ranking/skill is really hurting the experience. I either get really strong players or the bronzies that just finished newbie lobby. 80% of my games are just a select few players that are so good that they can cap the flag at 270 sanic vs the chasers that are so good they can nitron grenade someone mid air. most of the time there is nothing much I can do because the top players are the TOP TOP TOP. Like, rank 50 players that can 360 mid air shot while binging vodka.
Also, shrikes are imba

I actually think that when playing 16v16 you can always do something relevant.

Comp cappers are over 300 most of the time.

Pretty much as long as you aren't sitting in the gen room you're being relevant. Sitting in the gens, either attacking or destroying them accomplishes almost nothing.

it gets you number 1 on the score board! every. damn. time.

I have heard quite a lot to the contrary. Speed is not half as important as angle, disrupt, cover and time to cap, not to mention time to setup.
Though I'm sure most comp cappers can be over 300 most of the time.

No disagreement there. Defend flag, go shell or disrupt the enemy stand, or just do midfield harass of enemy O, and you will contribute. Chasing is hard-to-impossible, even with Rage and Lightweight, but definitely relevant, even if you just chase down one in ten cap attempts yourself.

It is more important but on most maps you can be over 300 all the time while remaining hidden. And in tribes ascend set up time for a back route is barely longer than a side route because the map design is very silly.

I would still play this game casually, but I haven't been able to play lately because I broke my computer. Coriolis is right though, a big competitive problem is that you never have to make any significant tradeoffs with any of your choices.
Casually though the game is still very very fun. Even the dumb stuff is fun; I wish the level ceilings were higher though. If you don't actually care about winning or losing, just infiltrating around the enemy base and dispensing indiscriminate justice to everyone you see (preferably not in the gen room though, or less than 10 sec there if you must) is still pretty fun. The main reason I'll still play when I fix my comp is the potential for really satisfying shots that this game can give you. Flying into the tunnel on katabatic and immediately nitroning someone and returning the flag, or flying up a hill just as an incompetent capper is going down it and sending a nitron after them and just waiting those five seconds watching the trajectories intersect before hearing that *tink* can still put a smile on my face. Then again, those dumb newbies begging for a run on the flag as a medium because they "can go 200+" are annoying. On freaking temple.
TL;DR Competitively sucks. Casually fun.

Yeah, some of the most fun I've had in this game was being with my team and taking the enemy flag into THEIR generator and seeing how long we could keep it there.
