I like zombie games, I like survival, State of Decay sounds like it could be pretty fun do to the "semi" survival/build your town up/get resources, yet what are the downsides of the game? I think I read somewhere that your world goes on even if you aren't playing?
XCOM, to be fair I know jack shit about. I've seen a lot of people playing it on streams and I just watched part of a "Let's play" video. Is it really difficult to get into? If it's anything like Final fantasy tactics with the strategy / different classes / turn based battles I'm sure I'd like it.
Sooo.
Pros/Cons of State of Decay? Pros/Cons of XCOM Enemy Unknown? (Also, why the heck does steam minimum recommend 20gigs for this game, is it really that indepth/massive?
Thanks bros! I enjoyed State of Decay for about 8 hours, then things started getting pretty repetitive. The game's quite sandbox, but the ammount of stuff you can do is relatively limited - it's pretty much up to gathering supplies, rescuing your pals, clearing infestations, helping people in trouble and moving your home base around. The time moving when you're offline is kinda neat really, as there's always something new to check out when you start playing after a break. Of course, having some of your toons run off or die while you're gone isn't all that fun, but hey, that's the reality of zombie survival.
XCOM is well worth the purchase, and Enemy Within just makes it better. I've played a ton of hours, and am not nearly done with it yet.
Anyhow, my own damage this sale has been limited to - Dark Souls: Prepare to die edition Had to get this after having beaten DS2, although I need to get done with nr. 2 properly before starting the first. I've heard it's a wonky port from console to PC, but meh. - State of Decay I enjoyed it, and the presentation of the setting is superb, unlike that of other contemporary zombie titles (DayZ, Dead Rising, Dead Island etc.). However, it is quite limited in what you can do, and there's no real point in keeping up survival after a while. - Space Engineers I was pretty unsure about this one - alpha game and only 33% off. However, this has been a blast so far! Stayed up till 5am last night trying to get a basic mining ship working. I can forsee this eating ridiculous ammount of hours during the summer.

For instance, both the still expensive games you point to are significantly cheaper new on amazon than used at Gamestop.
Other options that are always ignored in comparisons are renting games (I played Last of Us extremely cheap through Red Box right after it came out), getting used games from places other than Gamestop, waiting for compilations to come out, or getting a temporary subscription to Gamefly (with a promotion for the first month) when you have an especially large amount of free time ahead. I did the last of these moves twice back in the day, each time playing 6-8 recent games for cheaper than I could have possibly gotten from a steam sale.
Services like PS plus can also be pretty good deals. Not saying it ends up being cheaper than PC, but people need to stop comparing the most expensive ways to console game to the cheapest ways to PC game. Nothing personal I just had some time so I priced it out on amazon. They didn't even have the selection gamestop did. This is also just what ever price came up first as opposed to going to the list of sellers because of the Amazon Prime option. You can save ~40$ by signing up it or using a trial. You're still paying ~520$ for 25 games. Borderlands 2(non-goty) Call of Duty WAW Red Alert 3 DMC 3 DMC 4 Dynasty Warriors Extreme Legends 8 Farcry 3 Only GTA4+2 DLCS Injustice: Gods Among us Ultimate Edition Just Cause 2 Last Remnant Metro last Light(just base game no dlc) Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition MX vs ATX Reflex Payday 2 Portal 2 Sims 3 Sleeping Dogs SNiper Elite V2 Sonic all Stars Racing Transformed Force UNleashed 1 Sup Com 2 Terraria Splinter Cell Black List Brutual legends Jade Empire Overlord Raising Hell =$567.81, can possibly save about 38.72 on shipping if you use a Amazon Prime Trial/pay $80 for the subscription. Steam:~77 copies of games(including double licenses) - $450(excluding active internet connection) Amazon: ~25 single games - $525-567(depending on Amazon Prime offerings + not including psplus/xbox gold for multiplayer features on some games) Gamestop ~30 games - $610(excluding gas from go to store to store + not including psplus/xbox gold for multiplayer features on some games) Its not really inflammatory as much as fact......sure if you scrounge EVERY single website you may get a deal even better then the "deals" on amazon/gamestop but once you factor in shipping its still...bad. Really bad. Granted the collection of downloadable games is growing for consoles, it still is incredibly small. Plus the average person won't switch out their HDDs for a larger sized one, only enthusiasts. Subscriptions services like red box(due to paying rental fees), gamefly, playstation plus/xbox gold really still aren't worth it. For sure any game you receive for "free" under playstation plus requires you to keep your subscription to purchase it. Quoted directly from Sony's website: *Active membership required to access games and other PS Plus features and benefits.* (http://us.playstation.com/playstation-plus/ at the bottom) Also same for xbox gold: "For paid Gold members only; Active Gold membership required to play downloaded Xbox One games. Kinect and/or hard drive required for some games. Some restrictions apply. " (http://support.xbox.com/en-US/my-account/xbox-live-membership/live-faq?icid=furl_livefaq again down at the bottom) So even those "free" games that you're really paying for with part of your subscription fee aren't free. They still require you to pay each month like an MMO. They are only worthwhile for the games you want to play but don't care about owning. However, I'd still rather buy it on steam lump sum(with some games costing as much as a 1 time rental fee would cost from red box) and play at my leisure and enjoy mods that come out(sometimes years after the game has been released) then rush through it because I only have the license as long as I pay my time "fee". Again i hope this doesn't come across as a personal attack to you, but in the end it truly is cheapest on steam even including "the cheapest sources of console games" versus GoG/Green Man Gaming/Steam. There is nothing inflammatory about it at all, it just is fact.
Of course you shouldn't rent (and probably also not PS+ or Xbox Gold) the games if you plan on playing them repeatedly over the course of years. We are apparently very different types of gamer if that's the rule rather than the exception among the numerous games you listed. (e.g., I knew before playing The Last of Us that I could play through it in a single weekend and probably wouldn't feel like playing it again for quite some time if ever)
As for Amazon, if I'd wanted to claim that getting everything on it were cheaper than PC, I would have. I was just pointing to two cases that you brought up where it was cheaper than the famously bad deals of Gamestop.

It still does, but they're switching to Steamworks very soon so you won't have to worry about that for too much longer.

It's been a couple years.
I'm playing through Dishonored now. Such an amazing game. Really love the overall design choices. Really should've gotten DoW II aswell, but sadly I didn't. Instead I got Skyrim and Castle Crashers. That's actually surprisingly great fun with some buddies.

Because we are all waiting for mount and blade 2. But seriously use mods for that game. Experience x100 and the vanilla game is awesome already.

The Gothic series is on sale on Steam. G2 is a must play in my opinion.

I've heard about it now and then on Total War related forums but i wasnt quite sold on the open world mounted battles. It sounded more like a far cry 2 or red dead redemption with shallow politics.
But its nothing like that. I love the bottom-up approach with empire building. Its not the most streamlined gameplay concept to manage your economy and diplomacy if you have to find all the right people to tell them what to do but its kinda fun and very immersive.
Contrary to the Total War top-down concept with having everything very streamlined and gameplay compatible but a lot of things are just abstracted and you dont have the detail on the lower levels that i've always dreamed of.

Stanley parable is a big waste of money that tries to be funny but really missed the mark. Not a value buy.

I personally love it, it's great. It's definitely not 10 hours of gameplay, but you'll have a couple hours of fun if you're looking for some witty entertainment, especially when it was on sale. Highly praised by many.

The demo is fine because it introduces the concept in a nice manner and is different. The real game gets dull very quick though, it's just a long interactive cutscene, and since the "story" is so completely random it's not very satisfying. I'd recommend people to play the demo and skip the real game unless they really love the demo.

Didnt get much on the steam sale but i picked up a few games I wanted to get so im happy with it
Farcry for 2.99 iirc. Medieval 2 Total war Gold for 9.99(already spent like 30~ hours in the game and ive had it like 3 days hahaha) and Civ 5 complete edition for 16.99
so not bad overall I guess.

To be fair, the gog bundle always includes D&D Dragonshard and both NWN games + expansions alongside with tons of soundtracks if you are into that. So it depends, but 5$ for that bundle is hard to beat nonetheless.

A friend of mine has more than 300 h clocked in Mount and Blade. It's the tits apparently and has been for years. I have it but never got around actually playing. No time unfortunately.

Should have consulted the interwebz before buying the latest Hitman edition but meh i was only 5 € and I've loved Hitman since the first game. But apparently this is a step back from blood money which is really hard to believe.
Other random shit: FarCry 3, Dishonored
