I've just started watching your TeNe run crate (like 1 min in lol). Do you use termplay to watch fooTV(?)? Where would I find the other players' ttyrec files?

No, was playing offline, I did all of Orc and Lair except for L.8, in Hindsight I should have probably tried scroll of fog, I didn't actually have any teleport scrolls, I did die in 2 turns, so I didn't have a whole lot of time to do things

FooTV is something you watch via telnet (so on Windows you probably want to use PuTTY to watch it).

You can get ttyrec files by asking Sequell for them in IRC.

You can still find your morgue file if you play offline. It's the same place you can find your character dump iirc. If you follow the path given to you on the main screen (not sure if it's still there), you'll be able to find them!

Does anyone know the correct syntax for getting ttyrecs in irc? I tried

!lg theglow -ttyrec

I figured this would give me the link to ttyrecs of the last game, since omitting -ttyrec shows the game information. Tried some different variations but no luck. I read the bot entry, wiki and manual for lg but I couldn't figure the right command.

Hi,
I haven't played in a while, but today I tried a MiFi and got really lucky in the early game. I found ring "A" on level 5 of the dungeon and got a handy god gifted axe on level 11 of the dungeon before Lair. Right now i cleared the Dungeon to Level 20, Lair, Orc and Swamps. I ran into trouble on D:20 with Mara and escaped several times, Swamp had some tense moments too with Margery and her hell knights and later with a combination of very ugly things, swamp dragons, tier 2 demons and hydras. But i realize that i had a pretty awkward setup for Swamp or anything that pairs Hydras with other monsters in bigger numbers, as i have to take off a shield and switch my weapon to a 0/-5 flame Broadaxe.

Now i have several questions for you:

1) Where to go next? (I had Snake Pits in mind)

2) Should i use my handaxe and shield or switch to a twohanded axe as soon as there is smth good? And what would be good enough to be worth the switch?

3) Right now i have not too good AC but trained Dodging so i have somewhat higher EV. Would you go for a higher AC armor immediately (only in rF+ and rPois, which doesnt help) or keep the current one?

4) How do i avoid losing so many scrolls and potions? I stack them regularly in L:1, but i need some of them for emergencies (teleport, Blink etc.) Losing so much stuff is what brought me in some of the dangerous situations).

1) I would clear vaults up to crypt, clear crypt, clear the rest of vaults 1-7 then the rest of D then get 3 runes then win. You can do snake whenever you like but there's not much reward to doing so ... only snake:5 has much xp and snake:5 is reasonably dangerous if you play badly for any character.

2) I see at least two axes in your inventory that are probably better than the one you have equipped. If you want to keep your shield then your broad axe of draining is fine, otherwise the glowing battleaxe is probably good. Since you have 10 shields and your broad axe is pretty decent I would probably use that. I would also use the shield of protection in your inventory instead of your buckler.

3) With the skills/items you have I think ideally you want to make ice dragon armour right now if possible. If not then probably you want plate armour (the one in your inventory probably gives you better defenses than what you have).

4) Better tactics. This is twofold: firstly you don't lose so many consumables (and with 20 ev and a shield you should not lose that many consumables!!) and secondly you don't need them as much anyway. If you see a yaktaur pack, you should always move so you're fighting in a spot where they have to come to you ... yaktaurs are speed 10 so you can walk through most of a floor if you have to! Similarly just keep other things with fire/cold attacks in LOS as little as possible so they don't hit you in the first place.

To point 4: I think that most of the time i do that (using the terrain for my advantage, unless i am paying too less attention

), but sometimes i find myself in this situations where my stuff gets hit while running away. Or 2 times, when i was dealing with a mottled dragon, sticky flame got the best of me. Is the duration of sticky flame shorter when i rest?

Well with a mottled dragon in particular, since they are no threat to actually kill you, you should just drop your scrolls immediately (one stack at a time, drop the most important ones first). If it didn't notice you you obviously back up first and drop them out of LOS, otherwise just drop them on the spot.

Yep,seems better, silly me. I somewhat bumrushed them since i didnt know/remember what sticky flame would do to me.

I reequipped some stuff now and i am at:

AC: 27
EV: 11
SH: 29

Also, im getting evocation up, is it worthwile to train it so much that i can use lamp of fire (fire elementals from lava) or the earth equivalent?

Edit: Also i have a large shield wihtout any boni. What is the better choice (compared to +1 shield of protection)?

So I started a brand new character, and decided to just let Crawl make me a random character. Crawl ended up giving me a VaSu, very early on I found a +0/+4 dagger of Protection +5 and a ring of magical power, seems like a pretty good start. So far I'm just leveling my fighting and short blades skill because it feels like using summons I just level too slowly. At what point do you guys thing I should switch over to training summoning/spellcasting?

I've been trying to make a DDHu work, I'm wondering if it might be better to just be a DDBe and pick up a crossbow somewhere since as DDHu you need to worship Trog for ammo anyways. Training axes or whatever up to 8 or 9 wouldn't be too much of a waste right

You could also do the sensible thing and play DDHu of Makhleb or Elyvilon. You will have parts of the game where you don't have ammo, you can't kill everything with just ranged combat. You will also have a god who gives you pretty much unlimited healing and you will have ammo for most of the game. Just don't choose slings.

Is there any way to find out stats on CAO that are server-wide, not based on high scores or individual players? Examples:

Total wins vs. games played.
Most popular combos won (And their frequency)
Most popular combos played (And their frequency)

That's the kind of stuff I'm most interested in.

Also, I would be supremely appreciative if someone could give me a quick guide on Vampire Summoner strategy: What to train and when, what god to go for, etc.

You can ask Sequell these things.

VpSu strategy: summon things, win game. Sif is the easiest if you want to be boring and effective, ash and kiku are also possibly useful.

Yeah, basically summon rodents, then imps, then ice beasts, then Sif gives you awesome books. channelling is great on a Vp who can just hang out and be hilarious with his food clock.

Fair enough. I figured Sif Muna'd be good. When should I get utility skills? (Traps and Doors, Dodging, Stealth, Fighting, Invocations) I mean, you say it's just "summon things, win game" but does that mean I should never train anything other than Spellcasting and Summoning, or is it an oversimplification?
