Last two (possibly) games I'm playing are CeDK and then either DDEE or DDNe. If I lose this CeDK I'm done, and I'm done either way after the DD (which is mainly for Slow and Steady 3 banner).

Incidentally, how do you play a CeDK? Go unarmed and train Fighting/Invocations and then grab the first bow you see?

I'm getting some major lag right now (one of the main reasons I never play on the web client), and I'm only on D:3, so I'll reroll something else when I come back if it looks like you're going to succeed. Incidentally, how do you play a CeDK? Go unarmed and train Fighting/Invocations and then grab the first bow you see? Pick spear, spear dudes, win game. edit: By the way I don't really think UC is that great for centaurs unless you want the extra defense from a shield (but actually centaurs are very good with fast 1handers because hooves is ridiculous). Hooves kick in (haha) on any melee attack and are unaffected by UC skill. Personally I like lajatang centaurs the most, though polearm centaurs are probably the best since you can kite things that do a lot of damage (don't do this too much though it's extremely annoying). Anyway I would absolutely not train UC as a CeDK because a +1 spear is way better than UC on d:1 so you might as well just use it ... and then lategame Yred is freewin so it doesn't matter what you use.

There's basically no way I should possibly die at this point, just cleared D and I guess I'll be heading to the vaults now. May abandon Yred since my army is pretty sad right now, just a single bone dragon and servitor, I guess I'd probably pick up Nemelex.

It still counts as a Yred win as long as you get max piety with them before switching, correct?

Apparently CAO has webtiles now btw, you can try CAO webtiles if cszo (and CDO webtiles) is laggy for you.

Then I go back to the CAO game, expecting to be dead, but I see a potion of magic in my inventory. Quaff it, cast control undead, it works, I run around in a panic for a while longer, and I eventually escaped the abyss still alive. Cost me a fair bit of maxmp and got some bad muts, but I was alive and still a DD of Makhleb. Turns out I had a vamp greatsword too. Got to the lair stairs and realized that the CAO DDNe wasn't going to die, so I quit it. Good tournament everyone, hopefully we can grab a few points close to the end (Misder go win your game!!) and get 5th, but my part is done at this point.

Three great deaths in zot in the waning minutes of the tournament were a great thing to watch as it wrapped up.

It was only a 3-rune run, but it was the first time I ever saw or got a rune, and I was a Deep Dwarf Wanderer, and worshipped TSO all game long. Exited the dungeon with 3 runes, 4 mp, and no regrets. Thanks to crate and ]343[ for helping me out when I needed it ![]()

Should I train Bows to 27 before training a melee weapon? What's the best melee weapon I can use? When should I train Invocations? (If going Okawaru.) If Okawaru isn't recommended as a god, who is? How good does my bow need to be for me to use enchant scrolls on it?

How good does my bow need to be for me to use enchant scrolls on it? 1.) There's no reason to train a melee weapon unless you want to, bows deal competitive damage throughout the entire game. If you find a really great artifact weapon, then you can get it up to min delay, but bows at 27 should be a big priority. 2.) Polearms, for pretty much everyone. 3.) Just make sure you can Heroism reliably, and raise it again when you get Finesse to make that ~10%. You don't need to go overboard. 4.) Honestly, anyone. CeHu is one of the most flexible combinations in god choice since they have it easy all game and are reliant on very few skills to get by. Chei or Vehumet are probably the only gods that don't make much sense. 5.) Bows don't come in very many flavors, so you're either going to find a good artifact bow, or end up using a generic flame/frost longbow. I don't actually know how vorpal stacks up in this regard since I've never found one on a hunter, but pretty much feel free to start blowing scrolls as soon as you find a good longbow. You can even use Fire Brand/Freezing Aura and a Scroll of Vorpalise Weapon on an unbranded longbow, or brand it with TSO/Kiku/Lugonu which is incredibly sweet. Remember ammo brand overrides bow brand, so you can always change ammo against resistant foes.

Out of curiosity, how long did it take you guys to get to your first win? The amount of knowledge required seems massive, I don't see myself winning any time soon ![]()

Trying to decide when to put skills in what is probably one of the hardest things so far, I guess you really need to get a feel for that kind of stuff. See crate's post (or search the thread for MiFi if you want more): On July 11 2012 15:20 crate wrote: Here is how you train skills. First you train the skills that you use to kill dudes. Once you are killing dudes well enough, then you train the skills you use to not die to dudes. If you later run into problems killing dudes, you switch back to killdudes skills. If you understand what the skills do this tends to make skill training pretty simple in most cases. It is a little more nuanced than this once you understand what you are doing but this general advice is good in most cases. A few more notes that are less important: + Show Spoiler + While Fighting skill does increase your hp it is not terribly efficient to train fighting for defenses ... you probably want Dodging or Armour instead. Fighting also gives a pretty good boost to your melee damage and accuracy so if you are meleeing stuff it is a pretty good skill. Spellcasting skill is inefficient for improving spellpower or spell success in almost all cases, and only with spriggans would I worry about spell hunger. Normally the benefit to Spellcasting skill is the extra MP and spell slots For MiFi/Gl I've been doing:
(If you get Okawaru/other invo-based gods, maybe Invocations at some point.) However, I would suggest instead doing basically (weapon skill) until finding plate/maybe splint --> either weapon+armour or just armour until maybe mid-lair --> traps & doors until 7 --> fighting for a bit --> weapon to min-delay --> fighting/armour --> dodging/T&D or something like that.
