edit: Nevermind about skipping demonic, it looked like I was on an extraordinarily tight time constraint, so I just went and got a demonic rune. Only took about 2k turns, so it wasn't too bad. | ||

edit: Spending 13k turns with wild magic 2 was awful, fuck you for that Jiyva. | ||

Edit: Looked at my logs, the pan lord didn't blink onto me, I actually got 2 more pan lords in that specific turn, so there were 3 of them >.< | ||

Orc and Lair are done. I have cleared Swamp 1-3, Saint Roka and followers is on 4. Shoals are clear 1-4. Done dungeon down to 20 and found the entrance to Vaults. Main questions are: How good is +5 strength on my ring? Can this character take on Saint Roka atm? What should I do know? Do more dungeon? Check out Vaults or Elven Halls? Also should I use my Great Mace? I have pumped so much into shields that I am reluctant to. | ||

P.S. Get rid of that spiked flail. It sucks. Also turn off maces & flails. You'll want to use an eveningstar or a demon whip as your endgame item. You don't need anywhere close to 20 maces & flails to reach min delay for those. P.P.S. Try to get some better resists. P.P.P.S Great maces are okay but i'd aim for a dwhip or an eveningstar. | ||

--- Elf 1-4 might be easy but it's also pretty low-reward so personally I basically never bother with Elf unless I want the loot from Elf:5 (I think the only time I did just 1-4 any time recently was on my FeHe and that was because FeHe is a really dumb combo you should never play). At this point you probably want a demon whip since other maces are bad. | ||

Despite my luck complaints in the previous post, I'm not much of a believer in luck based deaths. I figure if I didn't have any options tactically (I think teleport statue form blink might have given me enough survivability to make it out, but it was honestly pretty dicey no matter what I did), I messed up strategically by not being properly prepared for bad scenarios. I skipped doing elf, crypt, and the 3 non-rune quadrants of vaults, so I definitely could've had much better gear, including a hasting wand if I managed to find an acquirement, and a few more levels to take that on. Constant danger is what I love roguelikes for, so I generally don't mind dying, though I am disappointed at missing the fairly hefty species bonus. P.S. Do you guys hang out and chat anywhere? I occasionally pop in and watch your games for a bit, but the built in messaging system is pretty poor. | ||

I picked up DCSS just about a week ago and have tried some of the recommended builds but I find I am tired of KoBE-ing. Anyway love the forum and an alternative to badwiki. Get UC to 5 (this will happen just after XL 3), learn spider form and turn on both poison and transmutation until it is castable at ~25% failure, then go back to UC only for a while. You can also learn sticks to snakes if you like but I think the spell is bad at low power and once you have enough power to make s2s decent you also have ridiculously overpowered forms so you don't need it any more. Once UC is at ~10 or so you can start getting some defenses (dodging, fighting, armour if you have a barding) or working toward blade hands. Eventually get blade hands, kill all the dudes. You want to get UC to 27 pretty quickly. Get all the runes except the golden rune, then orbrun Tomb. Good gods: Okawaru, Fedhas, Yredelemnul, Nemelex, Jiyva. Others are ok but probably not as good. Oka is probably the best for barding gifts and the fact heroism is ridiculously strong with UC. My last NaTm morgue. | ||

http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/eeviac/morgue-eeviac-20120303-021522.txt After losing many winnable games this tourney, the only thing to do was to go Chaos Knight. My first two died early, the third went all the way. Surviving the early game was made possible by multiple pre-lair scroll and potion shops, and a Xom gift of 1030 gold. I burned a lot of consumables trying to stay alive. A book of air giving rmsl/flight/swift, and being a green drac, were a massive help too. The hardest part of CK is living long enough to get the tools needed to survive Xom's bad effects. The most difficult stretch I had was when trying to clear lair 8, he tormented me 3 times in less than 250 turns, then started blasting me, then banished me. Funny thing is, not 300 turns after abyssing me, Xom gifted a lantern of shadows... exactly what I needed to survive. I came out of the abyss with a demon blade, followed by a rod of demonology. Things got noticeably easier once I got regeneration (spend less turns resting -> less chances for Xom to screw you), and the game went pretty smoothly post-Orc. I had a ctele mutation all the way up until elf5, where I lost it curing frailty. Painful points were never finding cblink, preservation, or healing wand (despite 3 wand acquirements). I'm glad I never have to do that again. I was pretty lucky overall. | ||

i finally made the step to online play. so far played KoBe and NaTM and never got beyond d10. sure i died sometimes to my own stupidity but it seems like there are so often just unfair situations. i got pummeled to death in 1 round after going downstairs, ive met uniques that killed me in 3 turns with a sling ,a 1hit poison kill , suddenly gnolls evrywhere etc.even a total cockblock in the form of one dungeon level having all 3 stairs next to eachother against a wall and pikel+slaves camping next to it in a open room. esp on a naga it seems like whenever i see something that might be dangerous i can just hope that i fight through it since running away isnt an option. so is it normal that you just die to stuff sometimes or do you crawlgods have special tactics? /edit like now i have a problem again. im on d7 , with sigmund and duvessa on the floor (isnt her brother somewhere too then?) i would skip most of the floor for now but d8 floor all 3 stairs are next to eachother , a wall to the right and 4 wights to the left. what do i do? <.< actually there were 4 (5if you count duvessas brother) uniques on d7. killed that eustachio and the little goblin(ilyb?). make that 5. blork the orc just run into my view. /edit survived and did well. till in lair 7 in get a 8 headed hydra right next to the stairs which kills me before teleport kicks in. why is this game so cruel >.< | ||
