Also: It seems like there are some regions without bases or anything in them. How do I capture them?

How does capturing regions work? I see that when a team captures control points.. nothing happens? Or do control points slowly change the ownership of one faction to the others? And what about regions without control points?

When you take a point you see a progress bar appear. whichever faction fills there bar first (more points = faster) wins the base and its region. There is no real goal in the game other then trying to capture and defend territory.

This is fairly interesting insight from John Smedley himself.

But I tried that. there was a region with one control point, I went there, filled the first bar (that apparently takes it from the enemy), and then filled the second... but the region was still under enemy control. Perhaps this is a bug?

Perhaps this is a bug? After you fill the second bar you capture that control point. Then at the left side of your screen a progress bar appears for the region (the other one is for the control point). once that ticks to full you capture the region.
