Apparently WASP was the first Miller outfit to have filled their contingent and also have reserves ready; but I have no idea about the status in other outfits.
For Miller, all participating outfits as well as the two reserve outfits have their squads assigned already. There might be a spot left for ace pilots, but I think even those are already decided on.

Is this the smash that decides the name of the merged server?

No, the merge was announced after the match date and such was already decided on. The MergerSmash will be on another date. It's just coincidence that the two servers that started the new server smash "season" will get merged soon.

Another question concerning serversmashes: Who decides witch outfits participate?
|
On July 15 2014 22:17 Snotling wrote: Another question concerning serversmashes: Who decides witch outfits participate?
It depends on each server and is up to the server representatives, which are mostly self appointed.
For Miller the organization is as follows:
The server representative calls a meeting and all interested outfits can join it. Then each outfit that showed up in the meeting says how many they can bring, though every outfit is allowed to bring at most 1 squad. Outfits too small to field a squad on their own can join together with other outfits to form a full squad during the meeting, for example this match we have CONZ and RUSL joining together with each bringing 6 players. Then we do a prioritized randomization for the available squad slots. We have air organized separately, so for 192 vs 192 it would e.g. be 144 infantry players = 12 squad slots.
1. Outfits that never participated in server smash or did not participate in either of the last two matches get highest priority, basically a guaranteed spot. If there are too many, the list gets randomized and anyone above the number of available slots is put into reserves in order of randomization. 2. Outfits that participated in exactly one of the last two server smashes fill the remaining slots or the reserves in the equally randomized order. 3. Outfits that participated in both of the last two server smashes are put at the far end of the reserves, which basically means they are guaranteed to have to sit out and only get pulled in as last resort - which hasn't happened yet and probably never will.
This system is fair for everyone since everything is randomized and everyone is given an equal chance. No matter how strong, big or important an outfit you are, you only get the same one squad as anyone else and outfits that never participated are always the first in line but you also never have to sit out more than two matches. It adds a nice rotation so it's not always the same outfits and at the same time makes sure that every outfit has a full squad if they are capable of providing it, which is the size at which outfits usually are the most effective.
We usually also account for one public squad which was cancelled this time for reasons I can't disclose at the moment.
I know that some servers have different systems. For example I know that one server, I can't remember exactly which one, did "player slots / number of outfits" and assigned each outfit that many slots, so every outfit could participate in the match but each outfit could only bring e.g. 5 players. It's fair as well, but mixing so many different outfits makes you a lot less effective, so I prefer Millers way where outfits might not get in this time but they'll definitely get their chance eventually.
If your outfit is interested, contact your server representative for details. The list of representatives is available on the official site: http://ps2-pickup.enjin.com/forum/m/19098320/viewthread/13833409-serversmash-rep-thread-look-who-to-contact-updated

Thanks a lot, that is really helpfull.
Do the rules apply to the Mergersmash as well?

Technically, yes. Practically, it depends. While the Mattherson vs Waterson match was organized in the same way as far as I know, though of course both Mattherson and Waterson have different mechanisms to pick outfits, I would assume that they prioritized picking strong outfits for that specific match. It still all goes through the server representative and I assume that Miller will stay true to the very inclusive rules we used for other server smashes. In the end the server rep decides though.

I tried to play the game last night and the launch screen went black. A few tries didn't change anything. I clicked verify integrity button and it said I missed like 300+ files and steam immediately started download 10gb+ worth of them. Is just steam sucks or anyone got the same problem? Whole game disappeared for no reason...

Thanks for the info. Steam probably will try to download the files regardless, I experienced that before. It is impossible for me to stop the download an re-validate the files. I appreciate if anyone knows how to punch steam, any help?
Btw, isn't domain name expiration a huge deal for Sony? Did I miss something or they are just bad.

Such a mistake is easily worth a mass facepalm of picardesque proportions. From what info they provided via twitter and reddit, the expiration notifications went to the wrong email address and went unread, so noone actually knew about it until it was too late.
As for punching steam, it's pretty much impossible. Gabe is sleeping in his lair below a 10m thick layer of gold coated 100 dollar bills, so he's very hard to reach for punching.

That is one of the most awkward excuses that I ever witnessed. If I'd miss an important mail to stop our job and dissatisfy huge number of customers, my boss would have treated me "like a boss"
Thanks for the new word that expands my horizons and Gaben pls

Radlock has such a great voice.
There still is far too little hype for this match or for server smashes in general. They are the biggest (semi-)competitive events in online gaming and a huge amount of fun to play and watch.
This event is still giving keeping me awake at night trying to think about everything I have to keep in mind while commanding Millers forces. It's like I'm about to play a match vs Flash and my life would depend on it :p

Well, there is literally nothing about this in in the official forums. And you never hear about it ingame, so thats not really a suprise^^

You would think they would advertise the shit out of something like this. Guess not ><

Hi Morf,
No, unfortunately I couldn't make it. I would've loved fighting my old general (Zukhov) though. When I first started playing, I was an NC zergling and Zukhov was the first player to introduce to me to what PlanetSide is about.
Even though FU was victorious, I get the feeling that this was one of our hardest fights judging by the comments on our forums.
See you on the battlefield and apologies for the late reply

Is there at TL-like website for PS2? How do people find this stuff?

Basically everything just goes http://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside
There are lots of websites for planetside, e.g. planetside-universe.com, but those are far from what TL is for e.g. SC2 or the competitive community in general.
Also, there is a reddit post about it now with a poll on who wins.
Voting for #TeamMiller is voting for TeamLiquid! Vote Miller! :p
God, I'm more nervous than when I first asked out a girl for a date. The biggest force I've lead yet was 48 players, now I'm leading 240 players, and every mistake I make will be pointed out in plenty of post-match discussions and on stream. Miller also requires this game to be a victory, so I can't allow it to be the third loss in a row, especially not before the MergerSmash two weeks later.
Well, at least Miller has the better logo artists than Woodman, so we at least win in the style category, even if the logo Miller voted for isn't what I would have preferred.
