Thanks for the replies :o I dont know what server im on but i am EU nina. As for the advice, ive been doing the "hang the fuck back, stick with squad / people" thing, im not stupid enough to just roflol run out of a base firing at a tank.
I'll go check out that social panel, maybe i can find some semi-organised people that will help a little.
If anyone wants to help me out and has a group / outfit i can join on EU, PM :-) I wanted to play this game for the longest time and then just found it terribly dull.

First, find out what server you’re on. Second, what faction are you playing? Vanu on Ceres here. Pretty happy with my outfit, there is almost always a platoon up to team up with. Unfortunately Vanu on Ceres is underpopulated so I’ve never won an alert in my 200+ hours of PS2. (Actually I’ve withnessed a win when I joined 10 minutes before it ended; but that doesn’t count). On the plus side, there are more than enough NC and TR scum to slay
|
Im NC on Miller atm, although i know i was TR somewhere else before i deleted and rerolled..restarting isnt really an issue since im only BR 5 and not attached to anything ive done so far..
So who's going to take me in :D Anywhere on EU, happy to reroll xD

Can't wait to get a new computer here in the next couple months so I can get back into this game
|
Make a TR account on Mattherson, and you can roll with my crew.

I have to say that the most fun thing to do is to run towards a tank and blow it up.
The problem with the game is that anyone who says it isn't pay to win are liars.
ESFs and libs are the biggest offenders here. A new ESF can be one shot by a single anti-air missile, or a lib taken down by 3-4 well placed rockets. A fully certed air vehicle has so much damage reduction and auto-repair that it can't be shot down by a single player with infinite ammo, and can one shot you from behind cover.
Meanwhile the starting guns are all awful, but fortunately you can get a shotgun or a medium-range lmg pretty fast, but this only lets you play a couple classes effectively. each class takes about a week to unlock their best weapon, or about a month to fully cert out. Each vehicle can take over a year to cert out, and of course, certs are bought with money.
Even when you get past the pay to win part, by playing enough to 'earn' decent loadouts for each class (medic guns, sniper rifles, a few levels of armor), you run right into the shitty netcode, which allows your enemies to shoot where you were in the past, allowing such stupidity as both players being able to shoot each other in the back simultaneously, it being completely impossible to dodge where the enemy is aiming, dying when you're completely behind cover, and the way it favors the aggressor by allowing him to shoot you and kill you even before he is rendered on your screen.
But I'll be damned if it isn't a lot of fun, I am in a pretty good + large outfit and can lead a squad or platoon whenever I want, and the rest of the time I can take my C4 and try and sneak up on the tanks and blow them up single handedly :3 mmmmm best feeling ever.

We have people running good public platoons on NC Miller. Look for DrHous3 or public squads from [0Hhh]. That's a perfect stepping stone to get into the game - these guys actually give orders and try to play in a reasonable manner.

Do not call me a liar!
It's pay for convenience. You can buy weapons and weapon attachments with SC. But any gear in the game can be unlocked by playing, so it's definately not pay to win.

You can not buy stuff you have to cert, like armour and nanites, with SC. Bad example

This is really uninformed--you can't buy certs. You can't buy any of the important air vehicle upgrades, everyone with them grinded them (you can buy xp boosts to get them somewhat faster though, but not so much that it's not a really gradual buildup). Also most of the starting guns are some of the best guns for their class.
The Orion is pretty much the best gun in the game and it's default. The Gauss SAW is beastly and one of the best guns, but you can get an easier to use GD-22S for cheap certs. The CARV is great (and the MSW-R is really cheap for certs and is the other worthwhile one). The Mercenary and the TRAC-5 are both excellent guns. All the default ARs are competitive, and the close range that most people use like the Carnage and the TAR are cheap for certs. I use a lot of the defaults most of the time even though I have tons of guns unlocked.
All the stuff that you need to be competitive again is from certs, like fully certed engi tool and med tool, etc, but it doesn't take long to max those if you play support.
I don't know vanu guns so well, but overall I can't think of a starting gun that's awful, except maybe the vanu/tr sniper but you can replace that for only 100 certs.
Now of course that's not to say it's all equal, you still have to fly against all the guys who have done the grinding and have perfectly certed air vehicles and also have hundreds of hours practice in the air, and someone with an uncerted fighter has basically no chance against them.

I have 500 hours in the game, according to steam, so I don't really think I'm uninformed. I understand that the planetside community loves saying the guns are sidegrades and the factions are balanced (seems similar to blizzard fans and starcraft balance) but it's really not the case. And the new implants are so pay to win too, it's rediculous. especially that regeneration implant...

We are all well aware that you can only die in Planetside2/loose a SC2 game, if your opponent has either an op weapon/vehicle/faction/race, or is an abuser, or cheater. Because you are inherently better than everybody else, and you deserve to win. Every time! Everything else is an anomaly! Never think about your mistakes, allways go on the forums and complain about balance. Thats the way of the real gosupronoobpwnr!

I just installed this earlier today and played around a bit with it. I just remade a guy on USE waterson because im USE and because I like VS and that was listed in the op, is there still active TL community there or should I switch to somewhere else?

O.o
They drop while you play, and you can convert/upgrade them. Seriosly.. now you're not even trying anymore.

Don't do what Khalum said :p
I'm the Co-Leader of FRMD next to the Miller-famous Zukhov, so joining DrHous3 and his decent but horribly named outfit is not necessary Message me ingame (Morfildur) and I'll send you an invite. You can also check out our public platoon when it's on almost every day. Our only requirements are that you follow orders and that you shed all fear of death because we will occasionally order you to charge out of fully camped spawnrooms because more often than not, it actually works even if 75% of us die in the process.
On June 12 2014 17:06 GoldenH wrote:ESFs and libs are the biggest offenders here. A new ESF can be one shot by a single anti-air missile
That is completely wrong. It takes 2.5 missile hits from lock-ons or 2 salvos from the TRs Striker.

Anti-Air stuff can always kill any aircraft no matter how highly certed it is. Liberators and Galaxys are very durable but a lone Dual-Burster MAX or Skyguard can still take them out or scare them away if they have enough cover. 1v1 a Liberator will win, but Liberators scale terrible in bigger battles. So, wrong again.
On June 12 2014 17:06 GoldenH wrote:Meanwhile the starting guns are all awful
Wrong again. Basically all the starter guns are amazing. NC Gauss SAW, VS Orion and TR T9-CARV are actually the option most BR100s use - and that is not because they don't want to unlock anything else. For carbines and assault rifles the situation is similar, the default starting guns are very, very good and by no means inferior to other options.
On June 12 2014 17:06 GoldenH wrote:each class takes about a week to unlock their best weapon
There is no best weapon.

That is a blatant exaggeration. Unless you have really, really bad ping, the netcode is perfectly fine.

I actually think that most implants are useless and I don't use them for that reason, except regeneration on my LA which is situationally useful.

I think most of the TL players are on Mattherson, but that won't matter because of the coming Mattherson-Waterson merge.
On that topic: Get hyped for Mattherson-Waterson merge Server Smash: http://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside/comments/281suf/serversmash_you_wanted_it_we_delivered_mergesmash/
ServerSmashes are amazing to watch and to participate in. I was in the Miller vs Mattherson match which we lost due to several f*ck ups by Millers command, but it was still a huge amount of fun, though the lengthy meetings I was involved in beforehand were quite tedious. You can find a lot of the VODs on https://www.youtube.com/user/ps2pickup/videos or the twitch channel where they are usually casted: http://www.twitch.tv/inicast/profile/pastBroadcasts
It's like Starcraft TvT, except all the space marines on each side are actually individual players and the supply limit is at 240 for each side

Just chiming in to clear a few things up, although some has been touched on already.
-Starting guns are some of the best in the game. You should be spending most of your certs on important upgrades (like medic/engineer tool, medkits, suit slots, grenades, c4, etc.) Save vehicles until later, just ride in people's gunner seats, and I would wait until you aurax your starting guns before you buy new ones. -Not really pay to win, although you can level faster with cash. The closest thing to p2win was when the game was released and rocket pods were overpowered. If you bought those with cash immediately instead of saving certs you were a god in the skies, until it was patched. Liberators are definitely OP but they're about to get patched and nothing OP about them is bought with cash. -Netcode is awful and you can definitely die behind cover, but this happens to your opponents just as much as to you. -Ginyu Force rules

Yes, I'm NC. I won't be online anymore today since I had a 7 hour scrum sprint planning meeting which was pretty exhausting, but I'll probably be online a lot this weekend.

Hell, yeah. It's still the most fun game I've played in a long, long time.
Watch this server smash match and tell me that it doesn't look fun...

I used to play with Ra and the other crew back then with TR, forgot which server but got tired of most people just buying their way into the game.
