You're either blown up by them or shot from a random far away place. I had 10 minutes of fun in 4 hours of playtime because the place i was fighting in was a relatively close-quarters compound, then we were kicked out of it and it was back to the clusterfuck. It's kinda bad for new players to get into

Tell me your ID / server right now. Edit: If you joined the NC, you need to quit and make a Terran Republic character.

But yeah, don't give up just yet. Find some people to run with (like on here), and mix up what you fight with. Air skirmishes, ghost caps, whatever.

Find 48+ allies on the map. Take an empire spesific fighter. Fly there. Bail out if you want to, but stay with them. You had 10 minutes of fun because you couldn't grasp the game. There are public squads if you need additional guidance.

Chances are, you will die quickly before you get used to it, even if you are experienced with FPS. Support roles are your best bet since you'll be effectively useless in frontline combat until you gain more experience. I prefer fighter combat since it's more individual and faster-paced, but that's extremely hard for a newbie. I died the first fifty-thousand times with my Mosquito without even seeing the enemy, so stay away from fighters until you're more knowledgeable about the game. Using them as transport is OK, but you won't do well fighting with them. Tanks are pretty newbie friendly, but remember not to go out without support, since it's pretty easy for a tank to get focus-fired by enemy anti-armor if there isn't other stuff around to suppress it.

"Random" deaths are the #1 complaint by players who quit this game. Big fights are terrible, horrible, godawful if you can't get into a full squad (or more) with friends and knowledgeable players that have a gameplan. Also, Indar is notorious for being a horrible vehicle shitfest.

[edit] There's a tab in the "social" panel of the UI, that lets you find open groups/platoons. Join them and tag along with them. [edit2] And while the comment about not playing NC a few postings up was probably half-jokingly made, it's actually a good idea to play the other factions first since NC guns are harder to use for beginners.

Hopping into a well certed out tank as gunner if possible also helped me a lot. You learn the game frome "their" (I play mostly infantry) perspective. It also gets you clues how to not get tankfarmed all the time.
