Also, for the fellow SMGfiltrators. What suit slot do you take? I'm tossing up between Nanoweave for the increased HP and Flak because grenades and mines fuck me over
For me i have two loadouts. There's the cqc builds with Bandolier and emp nades for extra spam during biolabs and organised play, and then theres the everywhere else build with nanoweave because extra bullet resistance is king.

Even when I find a Reaver or Mossie seemingly caught alone, as soon as I engage I feel like their buddy is always on my tail =(
I now have level 1 of Hover, Dogfighting, and Racer. It's hard to tell the differences between them all at level 1, so I'll be ranking them all up and figuring out what I like.
Something I do when I hop online alone is just fly around until I find a friendly fighter and then I follow it around and shoot at what it shoots, if the person dies really quick then you find another one to follow, but if they are good you can invite them to a squad or try to talk to them.

The best way to get practice at dog fighting is to just fly really high up and to disengage if you end up chasing an enemy into their territory or flak. Following friendlies is also a good way to survive longer if you fight as a group. Just be careful when flying that high though because you will encounter good pilots and the fearsome Dalton liberator teams which are a nightmare to take out by yourself. As with all parts of the game you just have to keep practicing.
lol I just picked up the game like a few days ago, been playing a lot but I'm like that with flying too. Every time I'm in the warpgate I make a point to grab a reaver to practice while also getting to the battle I want quickly (since I don't really get how the deploy system works, it seems like usually you can only access spawn points in your general vicinity, but then occasionally some really far away do show up). I was excited when I damaged some stuff once; that's what my flying skill is like. No kills yet. I don't have any flying certs yet except the 1 pointers though, but I'm not rushing out to get them, heh.
Also, NC MAX, is it me or is it garbage except for pinch anti-air? There's really no other anti-personnel weapon than a shotgun and the rockets seem sort of crap.
I'm having fun with the Gauss SPR auto sniper and Gauss SAW which seems really beastly if you can get the accuracy down which I'm trying to.

The NC MAX is very good in close range if you put dual shotguns on it, you can also put slugs in for some extra range but they are limited in their ranged anti infantry capacity. The falcons are hard to use especially with their convergence issues. NC MAXes have the worst anti air really, this is because all MAX units can get dual bursters but only the NC ability does not increase their damage output.

What server are you playing on?
Waterson US East. It seems like the TR have way better players than everyone else, makes me hate them and never want to play for them, hehe.
More questions: What vehicles are worth shooting at with small arms? It seems like my LMG can damage the light air fighters but are there any others?
Do people almost always use first person view in vehicles, or only when they decide they need to shoot at stuff?
ESFs (Fighters) can be damaged by small-arms, as can Harassers and Flashes. Other than that, all other vehicles must attacked with heavier weaponry.
I almost always use first person, except when I'm doing a long distance cruise where I know there won't be any combat or if I need to watch for friendlies to not run over.
I use third person almost the time while driving a vehicle except when aiming/shooting at targets, getting a diferent angle to view the area and when dogfighting. Third person just gives you much more awareness of your surroundings and I try to use it as much as possible without compromising my aim.

I'll just leave this helpful instructional video here for you...
The one criticism I have is that the tutorial could be better explaining some of the mechanics, like locating the little things that tell you where the vehicle/aircraft purchasing consoles are, etc. Also, maybe fixing the way it drops you into the game. When I first started, the game recommended I airdrop into a huge battle with 50 per side, I have a high-end PC and I was still lagging during that whole mess. Perhaps find a less hotly contested (with more of your faction's men) area that you could practice your skills in before joining in the huge vehicle sieges in no man's land.

Planetside 2 has really gotten soft these days.
When i started there was no tutorial. You got a short video briefing and then you were immediately in your drop pod right over the biggest battle in the game. No chance even to adjust your settings or anything. If you were lucky, you survived 5 seconds. That was when i fell in love with the game, it really pulled no punches. You landed, you were confused, you died. Welcome to Planetside 2. Ah, those were the days...
Anyways, there are a lot of things Planetside 2 doesn't explain, it's a game that promotes exploration and experimentation, so don't hesitate to run around on the sides of the battlefield and look at things or drive around on the map to find some of the hidden pathways. It also helps to be in a good platoon where you can just follow people around and discover things that way. The game is just too complex to put it all into a tutorial where you don't die of boredom half way through. Especially base layouts and such are very complex and you just have to explore to get accustomed to those.
As shitty as it was to die before I could even change mouse sens, there was some morbid epicness to drop newbies directly into the biggest battle with 0 tutorials and be like "Welcome to Planetside, you'll be familiar with the respawn system, very soon".
So true. They've been talking about trying to lower the skill floor for pilots. Since people are at a huge range of skills levels right now in the air, it's hard on new pilots. Hopefully they don't dumb the game down too much though. I love how high the skill ceiling is on flying in this game. I actually just learned something about flying yesterday that will change the way I play once I adjust to it, the analog throttle hotkey.
Notorious was invited to run joint ops with Black Widow Company last night, and it sounded like they want us back for more of that every Friday and Tuesday, and on their fuck off days. We made SG, AACE, and QRY air squads cry last night with our two air squads working together, so we're developing an Alliance here that I'm happy with. I'd still recommend Mattherson TR ground pounders to BWC, now with the added bonus of being able to run with my air squad on those op nights. If you fly, run with Notorious.

So you use it and you are basically just holding down W? I don't think I understand what it does or what to use it for.

It's the opposite. You tap it and it's like switching into a hover stance.
I really dont get why People still play this... Compared to Planetside 1 this Game is a total Joke and a Big Slap in the Face of every former Veteran by SOE.
I had hope they would make it better over time but now even Months after the rushed Release its in its poor State.
^^ that guy is just hating because he doesnt like the Aim Down Sight mech. this game is FPS squad member, tactical FPS SQuad Leader , and Platoon lead is FPS RTS (i like to call it Real Time Shooter)
Higby is an avid sc2 player and if this interview does not get you into ps2 and have faith in their balance. his sc2 reference is at 27 mins
For gameplay i stream with TRAF outfit on waterson

MHigby + JSmedley = Worse then whole EA!
Funny how a lot of veterans also say the opposite.
Any specific things you don't like about PS2 or do you just hate everything equally?
So, I started playing this a few months ago, and I got frustrated at how long it was taking to get new guns/try new things, so I stopped playing.
I really don't want to have to spend a ton of money to get stuff, are there any tips to having fun? I can't stand getting outgunned not because of skill, but rather because his stuff is better.
