Wow. Tank superiority on armored shield is so bad. How did they not think to include ATVs?
Here's how (I predict after a few games on it) I imagine it will go every time: -Everyone takes a vehicle at the start -As the match goes on, you spawn you grab an empty vehicle you GO no waiting! -2-3 people get stuck for minutes waiting for a new vehicle to spawn, they go immediately no waiting.
It's like the most hellish pub experience they could have possibly made. Although to its credit I just got about 7000 points just by leaving my soflam on a hill.

I haven't played much recon yet
I'm still at work, but curious how my AK experience will be, since I'm mostly PUBing
I haven't really used vehicles much so far and actually stuck to TDM most of the time

It disappears when you die but otherwise it stays on while you do your own stuff. You can operate it anywhere you want without having to sit there like a mortar. Just press 3 to deploy, press 3 to bring up a view. On this map though, imagine it as a big square. Two bases, one capture point. Hills on one side, town on the other and the capture point is in a wide open depression, like a bowl. So you drop your soflam on top of a hill or on the ridge of the basin the capture point is in? You identify every tank destroyer/MBT the minute they show up and drive your opponents crazy trying to hit this tiny little thing (Or ignore it because your allies are tossing shells at them)..
It's gnarly.
Bandar Desert is a fun map. There's cap points on the beach that serve as CQC (close quarter combat) areas and there's a great big fucking desert to cross with vehicles for 4 more cap points. One controls an artillery base (No idea what it does actually..) but another one controls a C-130 circling over the map. You cap that, you get a plane that flys itself and seats 2. Guided rocket, anti aircraft gatling gun, rocket pod, and it can take a fair beating plus comes with flares and infrared vision toggle.
I really like the map. I get what Chris14 was saying though. If you lose control of the air TOTALLY then you're just fucked. But if you get pushed back to your main base on Armored Shield you just lose the game too. I think from my first impressions Bandar Desert is a hell of a lot easier to come back on than Armored Shield. But that's just imo, I've only played for a bit. No real feel of the other maps yet.
I'm TLProbe1 if you want someone to play with.

AK is gonna be vastly different from the TDM experience
I really fucking love everything I've played so far, All maps 800tix CQ. It feels astoundingly silly that BF3 has not been like this from release. All out vehicle madfest galore. Love it!

Only the premium got AK now, right?
|
yep, for the next two weeks
|
Well, AK is fucking horrid
|
I love the maps , way more balanced then the clusterfuck that is operation firestorm ior noshar canals
|
Only tried 2-3 rounds so far as my dl took forever to finish last night.
The maps look beautiful I have to say, and the amount of vehicular madness is amazing. Still taking a while to get used to playing Conquest again though as I've been doing nothing but TDM or 64-man CQ Domination the past few weeks.
Will probably put in a few more hours in later when I get home from work.

Artistically, the maps look great compared to the maps currently that we have in the map pool. Tank Superiority is fun if you know how to play a tank, but tough to play with a squad since you can't spawn on them.
Mobile Artillery is hard, have to judge shots and they're not effective against infantry. I've been trying to camp them all day to no avail.

I feel really disappointed with vehicles in BF3, especially AK. In BF2, if you were in a tank or a helicopter you felt like a small god. Players would have to fear you. Which is both fun and realistic. But in BF3, as a tank or a helicopter, I now have to run scared of ground infantry.
While flying a helicopter, here are a list of things that I have worry about being shot down by. Enemy helicopter, jets, stingers, soflam + javalins, tanks, and gunship.
Vehicles are now just large targets. And it's incredibly boring and frustrating.

Except for jets, which are untouchable bags of instant rape when piloted by a good player.
But in general I agree tanks should get a little buff, now that canisters have been fixed to oblivion, something like better or even just more reliable main cannon splash damage? Still you can still manage to do very well playing conservative.
Sadly entering in an attack chopper is just suicide, it was prepatch, it is even moreso now.
Overall I am very happy of the AK maps played conquest large, mostly for the good variety of ambients for different combat styles, and the great, great looks of the maps, really gorgeous visuals out there.
Maybe better visibility for the Gunship AA guns?

I love AK. It is an all out vehicle battle and I do what I can do best. Drive a tank and rape the shit out of ppl. The maps are beautiful and also they implemented such beautiful environment sounds (try listening while being in between trees in russian spawn - forgot the mapname).
The tank destroyer is lovely. The gunship is kinda +-. It either rapes or it gets shot down constantly like a big whale in the sky (especially when flying close to the enemy spawn duh).
What could have been added: I cant see any BMPs on any of the maps, only tanks+tank destroyer+MAA. I'd like to have a BMP with guided missiles to engage from a distance and not only tank destroyer and tanks.
Regarding the chopper: It is utterly useless now. Regarding tanks: Inf is and was always one of the biggest threats to tanks. Tank tactic nowadays is support firing and to break enemy inf positions, together with own infantry. If you decide to everything by yourself as a tank, dont wonder why you'll die fast

Maaan BMPs with armor and armor piercing rounds would be sooooooo rape on those maps, maybe don't place them at spawns but only at outer bases, just a couple instead of tank destroyers. I would use to defend the bases closest to spawn due to their versatility, since they easily dispatch 2-3 engis with good cover or a solitary vehicles due to superior resilience and reactive armor bypass.

Tried to play a few AK maps yesterday, but I'm still horrible at vehicles, especially airborne.
Then I tried playing Recon and use SOFLAM and spot infantry the best I could, but that didn't work out so well either. The enemy always saw me, even if I was just lying still really far away in some high grass (probably scope glint?) and I realized I really need to work on my sniping skills as well...
So I went back to TDM to unlock some more stuff for the classes for a while. Found out it's quite fun to set up a T-UGS in Noshahr Canals between the containers (found a good central spot)... racks in a ton of motion sensor spots/spot assists.
I really want to get into the other game modes more, but I always do so much worse it's quite disheartening sometimes

Death Valley is such a grossly awesome map for attack helicopters. You know you can fly through all of the underpasses? Plus the elevation changes and AA spawning at cap points; if you can't own up on that map then it's your own fault.
There's a few things I wish about vehicles that were different. Speaking of attack helicopters, getting shot out of them by snipers is ridiculous. But I think you're just blowing smoke if you say ground infantry is too good against tanks. If you're having trouble just pop on thermal instead of regular.
A lot of it comes down to decision making and experience though. When I'm capping a point in a tank I don't just diddle my dick out in the wide open space. On Death Valley (for example) I'll squeeze under a building or adjacent to one. This isn't a World War 1 simulator; tanks are not supposed to be invulnerable magic fortresses. But if you're an engineer with reactive armor and thermal vision plus you can make good decisions based on the situation then you wouldn't be so quick to dismiss vehicles.
Again, attack helicopters can be ridiculously good as long as you can 1) Identify threats 2) Fly properly. It's a lot more dodgy than a tank because you damn near have to rely on your teams jets and mobile AA to keep their jets off you. Some maps have beneficial terrain (Caspian, Death Valley) that allow you to be less dependent on the good luck of good teammates. Other maps like Firestorm and the other Karkland maps.. Well shit, if you don't have air superiority then you're going to have a really tough day.
Point being, I don't think anything is inherently underpowered at the moment. It's kinda like how guns go from overpowered to underpowered. They're all okay. Some are more popular and some are more hated but it isn't really a skill thing.

God this is awfully frustrating... and I have not the slightest clue what I'm doing wrong or different than the rest...
0/15 k/d stats aren't really uncommon for me in AK I have the feeling I always get spotted, no matter what I do... I don't even fire shots and when I hide somewhere still someone comes up behind my back and just kills me. I also have a hard time seeing enemies when there's smoke/burning but yet they always seem to see me and kill me through the smoke. Currently playing on the highest settings, should lower the settings or are the any other things?
Sorry for whining but it just feels there's nothing I can really do about it... never see people, never hit them and it's just getting frustrating.
I probably should just go back to TDM again -.-
And idea how to improve or what I might be doing wrong?

I've gotten most of my kills so far by chopper and chopper gunner in ak. Chopper can take down the Gunship quicker then anything else can, and also deals with the ground a lot better then a tank can. The air combat in AK is much more interesting, as now jets have something to fight over (the gun ship), instead of just ignoring each other and taking out tanks with their stupid op rocket pods.
Since AK came out, I've gone up from a 1.92 WR to a 1.94 (and continue to go up).

And idea how to improve or what I might be doing wrong? In terms of sniping, don't lie in high grass, enemies won't see it at a distance and will only see you sticking out. Try to keep your back to a wall, fence, bush or the edge of the map. Don't constantly browse the enemies through your scope - they'll see the glint. Place your SOFLAM away from where you intend to snipe from, otherwise they will see you straight away. Use the M98B, L96, M40A3 or JNG-90 for long-range. 12X is good, but I prefer US 8X scope. Bipod not necessary at all as long as you steady properly for each shot, I personally prefer straight pull bolt as it allows me to make quick follow up shots without losing my gauge on the scope how much I need to account for bullet drop. If you are playing assault or closer range sniping, keep moving between cover, make it hard for enemies to pin you down and only put enough of your body into the open to be able to get the shot off you need. Don't go rambo, stay with your team on the front line either just behind the engineers or to one side, its particularly good to snipe from a direction the enemies don't expect, like quite far forward but facing backwards.
Most importantly, play with a squad. Follow your squad-mates, help them out and you'll find you will improve a lot, simply because you are working together. You don't even have to communicate with them, just stick together.
Hope this helps. I snipe a lot, and have some pretty good stats with the M98B and L96, I play hardcore too which means its a lot more tactical and less "oh there's a red triangle over there, I'll just shoot at that"
P.S. Lower your settings just a bit, it lets you see enemies clearer and gives you a bit of extra responsiveness.

Thanks for the advice. Currently I hop around the classes a bit to see what I can do best with. I try to move cautious and only sprint when crossing gaps or open areas, but still I somehow get spotted a lot, oh well...
Guess it takes some time to learn the maps and I only played for like 17 hours so far, so practically I'm still a noob compared to the people with 500+ hours. Guess that's just the way it is.
Sadly usually my squad is split apart so it's kinda hard to play with a squad. Would be fun to have some people to play with a bit more, but sadly none of my friends play and I'm kinda irregular with the time I have sometimes, so I'm pretty much stuck to PUBing
I try to play the objectives most of the time though and try to help out when our flags are getting tabbed or when a teammate is sticking around trying to capture an opponents position... but that usually gets me killed a lot as well
