Hackers banning legit players to prove a point?
Today I could not join any game, each time I got a PB error message: Game disconnected: you were kicked by PunkBuster. Stated reason: PunkBuster kicked player 'Ubikuuu' (for 0 minutes) ... RESTRICTION: Service Communication Failure: PnkBstrB.exe driver failure (PnkBstrK.sys) ffab
Yes I know of the update and installed it.
Upon checking Bf3 forums I found this: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/forum/threadview/2832654489577968055/
It looks I am one of the lucky victims of pride and stupidity this gig is about. Back to Uber-tristram farming I guess :|
There is also a (quite dead last time I checked an hour ago) Reddit post on this.

@ Ubikuuu!
"NOTICE Game disconnected: you were kicked by Punkbuster errors are being looked into right now."
just came up on battlelog.

Can you uninstall and re-install PB? Does changing your username work?
This new problem concerns me greatly...

YES he has good aim and some nice series but nothing very uncommon. this footage is heavy cut together and no one can say how many games he had to play for it all. the reason why i say its not how you play recon well is that i dont see any spawn beacons and motion sensor in either enemy attack path or behind them. a recon who flanks with spawn beacon and covers important areas with the motion sensor is really scary for the other team. the sniper footage in the first vid is just someone playing COD style sniping in bf3 - not very usefull
imo, spawn beacons are kinda useless. too easy to find and some people even like camping them for easy kills. it is much safer to spawn on a squadmate away from the action or at your own flags.
tugs/mav is useful for heavy infantry maps, but a soflam is far better on heavy vehicle maps like wake island which he mentions in the video description.
besides, how often do you see recons actively capping flags and picking off enemies like that?

mp7 with laser and extended mags. use it close to mid range with hip fire only while aiming for the head. try it

yep mp7 with what the guy above said, fantastic weapon short to mid range. Even on maps like Caspian if you are comfortable with it, and surprisingly good hip accuracy.
Also yep also gotten screwed by hackers through pb issues, so played a non pb server today for a few hours, people were pretty awful on my team, I miss proper servers......also what is the name of the TL platoon if there is one? I have not yet joined a platoon or clan or anything but will get around to it I think.

What??? Spawn beacons are far from useless. Like, that couldn't be any more wrong.
Even if it is found and someone camps it, you just don't spawn there?? Or you (or the recon) drops another. It's not meant to last for the whole match unless you're playing the most incompetent team ever. But beacons are amazing and can quickly swing the tide of a match if used properly. You can drop one way off to the side of a flag and go push for another, and if you lose that flag, quickly zap back to it on death and take it back. Most maps have nooks and cranies that are far enough away from the action that most people won't stray but close enough that you'd rather spawn there than at another spawn location.
The bit about the tugs/soflam/mav is pretty much correct though. Though I generally only use soflam if playing with buddies because targeting a bunch of shit and having no pubbies use it pisses me off.

On that topic, I have a question: does TUGS have a greater detection range than the MAV? Because if it doesn't, I'd wonder why anyone would ever use TUGS unless they haven't unlocked the MAV... I mean the MAV is a motion sensor, it can spot, it can destroy enemy equipment, it can move or be left alone, it can go to areas otherwise unaccessible, and it can roadkill people... why would anyone ever use TUGS?
|
You can spot stuff in a more limited radius, but you can actually defend that area instead of just spotting stuff. Roadkills aren't an easy thing to accomplish. So like D on sienne crossing, you can sit in that building and defend D while knowing if anyone comes i ndownstiars. Mav you can spot a whole bunch of shit everywhere, but you're vulnerable.
It's also nice if you're sitting back and sniping.

I think what Rob is saying is that you can park a MAV and it functions exactly like a T-UGS. I'm not sure about the radius tbh.
People use T-UGS because it's easier. 3 -> left-click and you're done. There's a bit of time and risk involved with MAV parking.
Edit: Read that the radius of the MAV is greater in a UK BF3 forum, but haven't found anything else.

Upgraded my PC and went from everything on low&20fps to everything on high 1920x1080 and 60fps. Almost like playing a whole different game.
I actually prefer TUGS since it's faster to place and maybe a bit harder to spot. And I never actually control MAV so that cuts off most of the advantages it would have. I tried flying it to some sneaky spot where I get a lot of a spot assists like above the alleyway on Grand Bazaar and then proceeding to play normally but that was just annoying to repeat between deaths.

Yeah, that's pretty much my point. Parked, it acts as a TUGS (which if you're right about the radius being bigger, you could say it acts as an even better TUGS), but it also does so much more that it makes the TUGS kinda pointless. If I were DICE, I'd nerf the MAV a bit (I've always felt it should never be able to kill anything) and buff the TUGS. One idea that comes to mind: make the TUGS auto-spot ground units in its radius (different than just detecting them; like a SOFLAM, but for people), and make the radius bigger. My thoughts anyways.

So I have this error when trying to launch the game:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/lHkiC.png)
Some background:
1. I installed BF3 successfully and was able to play 2. AVG Antivirus moved Punkbuster to my virus vault 3. I uninstalled AVG and BF3 4. Re-installed BF3 along with Punkbuster 5. Can't launch the game anymore due to the problem I posted above
Anyone know what could be up? I have the latest Ati drivers...
Edit: Nevermind, got it solved. You just had to set the BF3 application to run in compatibility mode with Windows XP service pack 3.

Yeah but why would you park unless you're on one of those few maps where you can't fly really high??
Personally, I thought the TUGS is fine as is. I generally prefer the MAV though because I will use recon more when I have friends on and double up with MAV/mortar. I use the TUG more if I go battle recon with the UMP or something.

You'd park because you cannot move/shoot/do anything while flying the MAV.

I feel like when I play this game, it sucks without friends or teammates. How there is no VOIP really kills the enjoyment for me sadly, a lot of people like it because it shuts up annoying dumbasses. But I miss talking to people and either complaining about the map, pretend we're being tactical or just talking to squad.
I feel there should at least be VOIP for random squadmates in-game.
Bah. I need to find more people to play this game.

Hahahaha, so funny to get in and think you're actually in the middle of the fucking IRL warzone with some friend(s) on skype. (weed also makes it so much better). One of the better gaming experiences I've had in my life

I was talking about parking the mav in a stationary spot. Everyone knows you can't move whilst controling it!

As opposed to what... parking the MAV in a non-stationary spot? I don't get what you're trying to communicate here...
My original point was that the MAV, even when parked and ignored, is still better than the TUGS as a motion detector. IN ADDITION, it can also do a billion other things if you choose to fly it. So my question was, why even have the TUGS in the game at all?

How worthless does "battle" recon sound to everyone else? There are other kits for a reason.
