How can I improve my gaming experience? Metro maps kinda suck in general... Play with friends? This game is a level below CS, this is a arcade-like shooter so just try to have fun i geuss?

@Derrida Don't play metro. Squad Rush is most like de_ maps, but still not cs. 4 vs 4 Maybe you can also try infantry only maps.

If you don't then do some Co-Op and unlock the KH2000 and use that until AEK971 - or just try to get AEK971 now since it's pretty low on unlocks(I still use it.) Honestly all the guns in this game are pretty good depending on the situation. You say you are terrible at this game, but you just got it. You'll prob start enjoying it more after a bit and suddenly start playing a lot better too. Yeah avoid metro unless you want to just lvl really fast. "Metro Meatgrinder" is great for getting quick points using the grenade launcher/rocket launcher etc...
One thing funny about Battlefield is that it got famous for large maps and vehicles(especially including air), and the most popular map in BF2 was/is Strike at Karkand which has no air vehicles and is mostly infantry combat. It's probably going to be the most popular in BF3 too.

The most fun I personally have in this game is Conquest Large gametype, 64 players, any map that is not Metro (like, literally any map is better for this). When you've got a full 64 man server with vehicles and air support, it begins to feel like a real war. Explosions all around, running for cover, snipers taking pot-shots that fly just past your face, a good squad going from objective to objective... it's just a lot of fun for all the chaos. But it's good chaos... it's war chaos.
I was climbing hilltop on caspian the other night and came across two guys on the way down facing me. I knew they saw me and I'd have no time to get them both, so I gunned down the nearest guy with my supressed gun, and just as the second guy goes to shoot at me, a teamate I didn't see came in from the other side and silently knifed him in the back. The rest of their team didn't notice because everything was silent, so we went in and took a couple more peeps out and capped the objective. It felt like some coordinated movie moment, even though it wasn't. It's exactly the kind of situation that keeps me playing the game.
As for all this earlier talk about the supression medal: It's funny. I know you're farming the medal on purpose, so I have no issue with that... I get it. But in my mind, everytime I get a supression ribbon I think "Fuck, I've got to work on my aim. I keep missing people when I shoot at them". I dunno, just got a chuckle out of it, is all.

Derrida, i would say your just not used to the game yet. Give it more time. As for guns, M16A3 is the most awesome gun for Assault class, in my & a lot of other's opinions. AK47 do suck tho :D M16A3 has practically no recoil, incredible damage, good RPM and just kick ass in every situation you can think of. And its just amazingly accurate.
Headshots are actually pretty easy on this game. Like i said, just give it more time to get used to BF3

also very true. when i started i SUCKED. and im far from beeing a fps noob (played q3,ut,ET,some cs, tacops etc for YEARS some on competive lvl). but over time you learn the mechanics, maps and esp the "flow" of the game which is incredibly rewarding in this game since its so different and offers so many things you can do.
btw most important thing you should learn is CHECK YOUR MINIMAP. luckily its positioned the same as the sc2 minimap so it shouldnt be hard to get used to. evryone who got spotted or fired a unsilenced shot will show up on it.

love this game, would recommend it to anyone

Metro is not anything like the true battlefield experience.
If you have the BF2 maps, those are more what it is about. Caspian and other BF3 stock ones are good too. They're open, with multiple routes to flags, vehicles and other stuff. Metro is almost COD-ish for twitchy gameplay and rocket spam. Also, those dudes getting the jump on you are probably using SMGs, which will always will beat out a rifle or machine gun if you come across each other while walking.
The bread and butter of this game is squad play and taking bases. Like when the opposition is throwing down pressure on one flag and has the other three, you and two buddies hop in a jeep, swing to their farthest base and take that to swing it back around. It's less twitch and more strategy in conquest and rush. The game is at its best when you have a few people that you know working on mics. There's a TL squadron and you can find people there. There is also a TL server i believe (I am a console sucka)
Understanding classes and when to use them is important too. Assault with med kids and paddles keeps a big push alive and can be effective on offense.
Engineers are perhaps the best all around class. Rockets are vital vs vehicles, but can be good for either suppression vs units or straight up kills. I get a lot when I'll hurt someone but they duck behind a wall, and I follow up by blowing up the wall. Engis can also repair, or opt to carry mines which can be devastating when the enemy is bearing down.
Support is also important too, but more situational. Extra ammo is always good for keeping pushes alive. The machine guns are great if you find a spot to prop up because they mow down anything when you're prone or at least create suppression. C4 is also great to use. You can take out tanks very quickly, blanket a flag with it to ward off attackers, or take down buildings where the enemy has set up shop to kill them or prevent them from having cover. A later unlock is mortar, which is really nice to have on maps if you are paired up with a smart sniper who has MCOM and is spotting shit.
Snipers do have use, but it is fairly limited. Most times, you're better off with any of the others. A good sniper (most people think they are but aren't) can be really vital in rush defense, or certain conquest maps that have the right features. The sniper's perks are what makes him most valuable. He has a TUGS beacon to detect nearby units. He also has the MCOM later on, which is a remote controlled hovercraft that can be used to spot stuff everywhere on the map and blow up electronic equipment. The sniper also gets SOFLAM, which is a laser designator for rockets and tanks/helis/jets... pretty much the best thing with proper coordination. He also comes armed with a spawn beacon, another awesome thing.
Another thin to note is that there are weapons that are usable for everyone. So you can totally flip around the sniper to be a more aggresive option by equping the SMP UMP, Tugs and beacon and be extremely beneficial on offense. Likewise, a support with an UMP becomes much more mobile offensively and a real threat rather than a defensive player.

step 1: play 50 hours step 2: unlock AS VAL step 3: profit
the sad part is that its true, this gun is a monster. definetly recommend.

i really should get round to trying more pwds other than the p90 ;p but man, I love my p90 :< (as opposed to in cs where I couldn't stand the bloody thing :/)

Are the Co-Op missions any good if you aren't going to play with someone you know? I had planned on giving them a pass, but looking at the rewards there are some guns that I kinda want. I usually like to only play co-op games with my real life friends, but none of them have the PC version of this game. So yeah, are the co-op missions actually fun? And approximately how long does it take to unlock the guns in Co-Op?

A friend and me played through all the co-op missions on easy, normal and hard over a couple days. It was pretty fun, especially using voice chat. I think we unlocked weapons up to M39 before we finished all the levels. But after a patch all the guns got unlocked because of lower requirements.
The M39 with a holo/acog is great fun to play, use it like an M1 garand and not camp around, 2 body shots in HC should kill anyone. The only other gun I've used is the G3A3, it's really powerful but a little too inaccurate for my tastes, so I prefer the AN-94.

G3A3 is really good with bipod or foregrip. sucks at first.
it is possible to get more kills than anyone if you have a good position for bipod. at first i had k/d below one but now im getting closer to two.
also, get a good camping spot like one end of a plain area. people run at you are free kills. spot a lot and be close to a isolated allied flag since the people who try to get the flags dont really take cover.
dont get acog but stick with RDS until you get the 3.4x scope. get ammo upgrade and if youre playing in firestorm use pipes efficiently. also silencer holo foregrip works well for close quarters.
dont expect to get a kill from hipfire so always be aware. dont run too much unless you think you are really safe.
youre supposed to be the sniper hunter so spot them at first sight. if youre under fire seek for other cover spots and dont hesitate to get up and run.
Also get down and hope you werent seen if you see a tank nearby. tanks are your worst enemy.
Use heavy barrel with single shots at first but after you get bipod dont use heavy barrel , instead use bursts with two/three shots.

Hello everybody!

I'd very much like to have more players on my battlelog com center. So do add me If you want to play! I enjoy pretty much every aspect of this game so I'll definitely be in the mood for whatever game you want.

The epic moments BF3 creates really are something special, i too have to stop and think "wtf just happened O.O" at times.
For instance the other day a map started, i jumped in a heli and it flew to the other side of the map. I bailed out on top of a building (i wasnt the pilot dont worry.) and 3 tanks start pummeling the place, i make a run and jump off the roof landing in the 1st floor of the building adjacent, shoot someone with my pistol and holed myself up in the building untill my team had capped the point (pun intended. trolol.) behind me and arrived to support me. It. Was. Epic.

yeah would like to know that too. some nice squadplay or even just some coop would be fun. dont wanna bother to join a random clan just so i have people to play with.
about gamemodes i never played hardcore so far but should be fun running around with a m98b+holo/rds ~~
played like 90% conquest so far but recently got more into rush which is also quite fun. esp 64man rush is madness.
btw am i the only one that loves the F2000? handles great, dominated on close range and with short burst you can very reliably hit at mid range too. aek was my fav before but somehow the f2000 just works better for me. also i have the highest kills/min and highest assault rifle accuracy with it.

The amount of random deaths is absolutely ridiculous, too many times have I been killed by nobody knows what and it just says bad luck, like they even have a message built in for when the game itself doesn't even know what killed you. Comon DICE this is ridiculous.

I dropped it after the patch where they increased it's recoil, was an absolute monster before it though. I find it slightly weird that it's your most accurate assault rifle though, guess you haven't used the lower RPM assault rifles or something.
L85A2 all the way when playing assault for me now, sitting at over 21% accuracy which is so much higher than with my other assault rifles.
