actually competitive bf3 is played in 3 modes:
8v8 conquest (small) > 5v5 conquest (small) infantry only > 4v4 squad rush
every mode is fun, i personally prefer 8v8 conquest. but you really need 2 good jet pilots or every airmap is just frustrating. i really like bf3 clanwars, but it's a problem to have 8 decent players oline at the same time

Or just two good teamates coordinating on stingers... or even one good laser designator and a handful of jav engies.
But apparantly even on a big 32 person team, that's asking far too much for anyone in public servers {/sarcasm}
ohh, ohh, I thought of more reasons to hate strangers on BF3: -They never laser designate anything -They demand SOFLAM constantly, but never appear to shoot at any designated targets - Not a squad leader? Yeah, don't expect marked objectives or anything... way too much work to push one button every couple of minutes apparantly - They put AT mines, medkits and ammo boxes in your base, where enemies cannot even approach - They always stack the same squad perk, never deviating or changing it because it's already on - They stand between you and enemies... but always facing YOU! - They stand behind enemies facing away from them, making enemies look friendly because you can see a blue name above their head - If he's a gunner in a tank you're driving, don't expect your back/sides to be watched for C4 planters or anything... - If he's repairing your tank and it's on fire, don't expect him to fix it to 100% or anything, leaving you still on fire and still taking gradual damage/unable to move fast...

meh would love to see a 20vs20 or even bigger match. cant be that hard to have 20 people online. wow people do it all the time all day from scrubs to "pros". would instantly join a team/platoon whatever that has organised matches of that scale even if its just for fun.

The problem with competitive BF tournaments is also that tournament organisators probably wont have money to fly whole 32 man teams over. So it will be online only or 8v8 or something. But to tell you the truth im not very interested in watching BF3 8v8, maybe other people are though. Then there is the problem that BF3 doesnt have spectator mode and no replay function wich would be necessary for a competitive scene to evolve and for protection from cheaters. I dont remember any BF game being part of the WCG (correct me if im wrong). Does anybody here know whys that if its true?

Can you imagine a coordinated 16-32 player team, my god.. This game is ahead of its time imo.
Reminds me of MAG (ps3 game). You basically had 8 player squads, 4 squads forming a platoon, 4 platoons forming a company (which is a single team). Squad leaders could take to each other, but squad members wouldn't be able to hear other squad leaders.
Similarly Platoon leaders could talk with other platoon leaders, who could then relay information back to squad leaders (and so on). Sounded good in theory, but since the game was only released on ps3 it was pretty limited (not everyone had mics).
From experience you also don't feel like the other platoons are there unless you are given a leadership position due to maps being really large (and each platoon having separate goals).

My clan has 8-12 people playing together sometimes and it really is absurd how much of a difference it makes when an entire team is on comms and working together.
Also shameless plug for our new server... come and get some games on! I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link but the server name is "rage-a-lot vs. BEASTMODE" and running 32 player conquest on flying maps
|
meh I play bf3 to grind achievements and mess around, pretty sure you'd have a fit playing with me rob.
|
check out the forums at bf3esports.com if you're interested in competitive bf3 in NA. the competitive community is extremely small though

rage-a-lot vs. BEASTMODE <-- that is one server i do not want to step foot near. Just the name of it seems to invite raving trolls -_-
Large scale 16vs16 or higher competitive BF3 would be amazing, yet it would never happen unfortunately, there are simply too many problems getting it all set up.

I figured you had to set up an entire team to have real fun in this game. Pubs is such hit or miss. Mostly miss.

Despite how much I hate the spawn system... whats that battlefield? spawn me in front of the same guy 4 times who head shots me before I have actually managed to spawn... yeah sounds awesome!!
I do love the game, and can't stop playing it.

You can't on TDM.. it's random spawn. It's not bad on conquest, although I have a tendency to be able to find tanks arriving as I spawn:-/ TDM the spawn system is awful.

Yeah it's absolutely ridiculous, they just spawn you anywhere and on some maps you'll regularly spawn between 2 or 3 enemies.

Why do shotguns require 350 kills to unlock all the attachments, with all the various scopes? I don't even scope with my shotgun, using the IR scope just to spot enemies. My OCD with attempting to unlock each weapon and its attachments, 21/50 weapons done, looks like I need to play a ton of Recon to play with semi-automatics to get this done.
Also, looks like I'll never competently fly a jet, so far away from unlocking all the stuff. The only things I can seem to shoot down are newbie pilots that don't have flares.
Do dogtag unlocks give points or no?

arent most dogtag unlocks linked to other rewards that give points anyways?
about jets... well i was the same like 2 weeks ago. you can check my posts few pages back where i complain that i cant fly for shit. now i have evrything unlocked on the jet and am only 10k points away from my 2nd service star. just keep trying and maybe watch some tuts on youtube. once you get the speed management and esp the aim with the gun down (+understand how to avoid dangers) you can beat like 80% of the pilots out there. and youre a starcraft player so learning how games work is something you do anyways ~~
btw speaking of jet service stars... why dont the service stars show up in the "killed by" screen? think i never saw someone with a star even if they had insane 4.5k jet kills. another display bug?
also i would need some help with helicopters. less about the actual flying part (unless they are some secret tricks i should know of other then up+down+leveled aim=perfect hover), i can hold my own and hit decently well and am getting better evrytime. but more about strategy. it seems like i always spend most of the time in a chopper running away and hiding behind buildings/hills or landing to repair instead of actually attacking.
if i fly low and try to get close and personal i have EVRYTHING shooting at me. from stingers to soflams, tanks,aa,snipers to random assault rifles i just get spammed away. mid high its less of the guns but free locks on me for almost evryone on the map and jets become a problem. really high up/far away i can just spam rockets and hope i hit and am a sitting duck for any somewhat decent jet pilot. so how do you do it?

If you have low flying skills (that is, you can hover well and not hit trees and stuff when low to the ground), I'd highly suggest "below radar" as a customization to add to your chopper, especially if you have a gunner with flares equipped for when you need to get some altitude. Just be careful around tanks if you're going to hang out so close to the ground... those tank shells will down you in one hit.
Either that, or use ECM like crazy and book it outta there when you get locked.

I usually do diving runs from the top with choppers, releasing a full salvo of rockets, then pulling back up to reload, as there's way too much danger hovering low ground, with all those anti-vehicular, as well as anti-personnel weapons. With some crafty timing and flying, ECM Jammers have almost the same cooldown as the SOFLAM lock; it also helps if your gunner equip flares to synchronize the timings. Also, release the ECMs after you hear a one second full lock, that usually clears out most Javelin shots if those ground Engis have quick triggers. Of course, you cannot account for those Engis who time their shots. SOFLAMs are hard to take out as a chopper because of the small hitbox, it really depends on the rest of your team to clear them out; alternatively, if you die, spawn as Recon with a MAV to take them out, but someone will steal the chopper by then.
It's a great feeling when you shoot down choppers with a Sniper Rifle.

TDM really is about as little battlefield as you can get in this game. That's like straight up COD. Spawning on normal conquest or rush is pretty good, minus one or two instances (certain spawns on Sienne... a;dsfaskdjfa;lk)

I agree with you but if I'm playing alone I'd rather play a small TDM game than a huge conquest or rush with teammates who half the time aren't doing anything or are just plain retarded.
