dunno. if they really focus on spotting for the team it can be viable. doesnt mean you should storm the front with a pumpgun but covering from behind + mav can be damn useful.
def agree that tugs needs a slight buff and mav needs atleast a fix (no mav surfing and killing, not that i ever got killed or killed anyone with it).
btw whats a normal spm? im currently at ~245 and rising playing like 95% big vehicle conquest maps. see people with 500++, am i right to assume they mostly play metro etc or is my spm just bad ? my spm was very low when i started since i fooled around A LOT more and in general sucked so im not sure yet what i will peak at.
also whats up with the weird time outs i get more and more often. suddenly i disc from the server and battlelog says i timed out.

If you're not lone wolfing like a moron, Ump (or some other SMG)-Tugs-beacon with a speed all perk is nice in a lot of situations. Again, kind of dependent on good team play which is why I almost never do it if i'm not with friends, but that with a medic and Engi makes for a nice group that can lock down a lot of areas very nicely

Mine hovers at just under 400, but it's taken a small dive since I've been forced to switch to recon for my final service star. I suspect you may be right about the boosting on Metro, but if there's one thing I've learned about looking at other people's profiles to guage their skill, it's that you need to look at many different factors. With a high SPM, I'd generally look at their weapon usage stats, and their award ribbons. It paints a better picture of where the person's skill stands.
For instance, a guy with a high SPM who also has hundreds of medic revive ribbons and many service stars for his grenade launcher or other explosives is obviously boosting on Metro. Whereas a guy with a high SPM and many flag attacker/MCOM attacker and MVP ribbons is obviously just plain skilled and actively contributing to his games.
BTW, I also get those server timeouts. It's on the server's end I believe, so there's really nothing to be done about it.

For me, battle recon is inconsistent because I go with HoloScope, Foregrip, and Suppressor for the semiautomatic rifles. Some games I do really well, some games I just suck at and get a negative KDR. Also, I prefer to run with a TUGS because of a smaller hitbox than the MAV, which can also help hide the radar much better.

I'm peaking ~480 SPM it seems, I mostly play Conquest with Vehicles with a mix of Rush for grinding out sniper weapons. Most of the high SPMer comes from Metro spam with the M320, USAS-12 Frag rounds, etc, and it's also easy to build up KDR. I wish the game would show True KDR like in the past BF series, where it would be Kills/(Deaths+Being Revived). Once I fool around with Jets, my SPM will tank a lot to grind out those unlocks.

Personally, I thought the TUGS is fine as is. I generally prefer the MAV though because I will use recon more when I have friends on and double up with MAV/mortar. I use the TUG more if I go battle recon with the UMP or something. You'd park because you cannot move/shoot/do anything while flying the MAV. I was talking about parking the mav in a stationary spot. Everyone knows you can't move whilst controling it! As opposed to what... parking the MAV in a non-stationary spot? I don't get what you're trying to communicate here... My original point was that the MAV, even when parked and ignored, is still better than the TUGS as a motion detector. IN ADDITION, it can also do a billion other things if you choose to fly it. So my question was, why even have the TUGS in the game at all?
Main advantage of tugs is that it is very difficult to kill as in almost impossible. You can't kill it unless you run up right next to it and empty a pistol clip into it. It's also very hard to spot.
Mav dies so long as someone takes the time to look at it briefly.
If I'm camping a choke or a building such as on Seine river crossing, karkand, etc. I would take the tugs over the mav

I agree with necro. TUGS are very hard to find and take out if you hide them properly, tho MAV are much more useful in most cases. However there's plenty of times when im hearing the tone of a TUG, but i just cant find it. Without taking out the TUG, i cant possibly sprint without being spotted.
TUGs have their place in the game.

I think you can put down more than 1 TUGs, but I hate recon class so I don't know for sure o_O
I'd just go with the MAV though, it seems to have a very large range

so you have no clue about recon and just make up stuff. thats the way to go ....
about the TUGS/MAV:
TUGS is more made for flanking when you move from house to hosue, cover to cover. its esier to take along. you cover in on spot, drop the TUGS wait 1-2 seconds and pick it back up and move on. its far less obvious than a the MAV which makes a lot of noise. this is especially bad when you want to flank and your enemies hear the WRRRRRRRRRMMMMM from their backs. a lot of player will turn to check where the MAV is. with the TUGS on the other hand there are one or two beeps and those are really hard to locate and will most of the time not be heard at all. i want to be sneeky and come from behind and set my beacon behind enemey lines not to come with a fucking mini helicopter screeming HEY LOOK AT ME I MAKE WRRRMMM

naw dude i read something on symthic forums about it. I didn't test it out tho because like I said I hate recon class, which is why I used the phrases "I think" and "so I don't know for sure". Just thought I'd clear that up for you since you cleared the TUGs thing up for me ;D

I have been using the mp7 laser-beam hip-fire death machine on city maps the last days. I am around 142 kills with at least 75%+ of them been done with hip-fire. I got about 17.5% accuracy with it . I have way too few headshots imo though.
The name laser-beam hip-fire death machine is fitting beyond belief.
Again, do add 'WakaDoDo' if you want to squad up!

Am I the only one whose BF3 alt+tabs incredibly slowly?
My PC is decent, BF3 runs on high settings with 40-60 fps, but it often takes around 30 seconds to successfully alt tab out of it. It's quite annoying because if I want to alt tab out to close the game after it has ended, the next round will already start while alt+tabbing and then I often have to Ctrl+Alt+Del because everything clogs up for a while.
SC2, CS:S and many other games alt+tab just decently. Not sure why this one wont. >.<

Try minimizing the game with Alt+Enter beforehand, at least thats how i go to the desktop most of the time (read: after blackscreens on mapchange -.-")

Both myself and a friend get disconnected from a game if we alt+tab. Would very very much like to have it resolved.

My SPM is at ~400. I mainly play TDM though with some Conquest sprinkled in here and there. Some of these maps are absolutely fucking terrible for TDM though.

starting to question that. i got the some timeouts or disc from time to time before. but now i get it in more then half of my games. i have finished maybe 2 of the last 15 games i joined (sometimes leaving cause of obvious bad game/hack, rest discs).
maybe something is wrong with my install? cause i think it started to happen that often after i installed my ssd + fresh windows 7. moved the battlefield folder to the ssd, hit install in origin and it instantly accepted the old install. could this have something to do with it?
just reinstalling is not really an option since i dont have a dvd drive atm and dont have the installer anymore. so i would have to dl 16gb just to test...
only other option i see atm is that the new server patch somehow fukked something up for me since thats the only other thing that changed during the day i havent played cause of new system setup.

Actually IIRC changing my router really helped me out with disconnects. Maybe your problem lies there...
