The game is nothing like bf2. Here's a tip for you then (i don't know why you didn't figure this out on your own though) get the fuck out of the BF3 thread and back to your precious fossil of a game. Been hitting the beta hard
The squad ui needs to be fixed, we need to be able to invite and pick for our squads.. this game is going to NEED that for the newer players coming to BF playing on big pub servers
The minimap is awful.. dunno if it's just me but it's just not useful, it needs to be clear and easy to read at a moments glance. The expanded map is even worse... if the maps are as big as DICE are saying they are then it's going to be a tool everyone needs to use to to plan a route or see how the battle is going, currently it's just ugly and just not easy to read fast enough
Besides those whines though.. I managed to play a couple of hours on a caspian border server before they were taken down, and just that short period has made this game a must buy for me

You can they already said in the full release of the game you can leave squads, have private squads, etc. There will also be the cammo thing that was from BF2 (like need ammo and stuff).
And yes the maps are huge or at least caspian is. Very big .
Don't worry though guys they already said you can make your own squads, leave, and switch teams it'll all be in the actual release.

DICE will be patching the hell out of this game after launch, just like they did with BC2.. The BC2 beta was horrible and the game wasn't much better on release (despite people claiming that we shouldn't judge an "old" build -it wasn't; the retail needed the exact same patch as the beta to allow dual-core owners to actually have a decent experience). It took them months to make it as awesome as it is now.
You see, this is why I'm fond of platform-exclusives on consoles. They're made by people who know how to get the maximum out of the given hardware with the engine they use, and they're polished as fuck. Just the fact that games like Uncharted 2 and 3 and the Gears of War series look as good as they do on downright ancient hardware is proof of that. There's generally way more content on a console-exclusive or console-oriented game than on a PC game. PC devs have to pay so much attention to graphics and optimization for a myriad of different systems that they can't focus on what's important: content. Just look at the amount of stuff you can do with Halo: Reach. That's a DVD bursting with content. It's a game that is meant to be played for years by a lot of people. Same with Gears of War 3. A lot of stuff on it and a lot of stuff planned so people can continue playing it for years. The only two PC devs that actually do this as well are Valve and Blizzard. I mean, people are still playing Counter Strike and classics like Diablo 2, Brood War, Warcraft 3, World of Warcraft, or some Half Life or source mod.

im playing on PC and oh boy is it glitchy as hell. very hard to play right now. its beta so that is understandable. but I cant even get into the game sometimes due to freezes and crashes.

Neither Valve or Blizzard planned on brood war or half life 1. Valve didn't even make counter strike. Yes, I agree with a lot of what you're saying but its also just rosy retrospection!
Or maybe I just wholeheartedly disagree with Halo: Reach being a game I would want to play for longer than a month. Reach=Halo 3=Halo 2; Everything that came after Halo 2 was really just an expansion and mod to me
Edit: I seem to be the only one that hasn't had a glitchy or laggy experience. I mean I don't connect to high ping servers.. so there's that, but I am a little confused about the glitching complaints. I have by all means medium/high settings hardware including a very old quad core processor but no glitches :O

Me too actually, i honestly haven't had many problems at all :S sometimes the player models glitch after they die but that is pretty much the only problem i have encountered so far.

BF2 was a terrible game when it was released, for those who actually played it at the start and not the people looking at it with rose coloured glasses
BF3 isn't even released yet, its in BETA. That said it isn't even a terrible game as far as infantry combat goes
First stage of metro is annoying to play but thats not imbalance thats just how FPS works. the other stages are fine
