That works too for PC if you want to keep her; no console for the consoles.

This isn't true, I've had a couple companions (including Lydia) die to strong/semi-strong creeps if left unattended. Giants can one shot your companions, but I've seen them die to more standard variations of enemies as well. I haven't noticed any pattern but I'm guessing maybe they are killable when in their 'wounded' state, so if for some reason the attacking mob doesn't switch aggro to you, the companion may be killed. Not sure though, all I know is they can die without it being by your own hand.
I think it's similar to when an enemy gets weakened is down on one knee, the follower will just run past it to kill another nearby enemy, but if it's the only enemy around, the follower will kill him.
I've already had Lydia die and didn't want to re-load for her.
On another note, it's best to stop sneaking when your follower is in a battle. I've had many of times where I accidentally shot my follower in the back and one-shotted him/her.

How does everyone feel about the master level spells?
I have master level Destruction, Conjuration, and Alteration spells right now, and I never used them. The Destruction spells would be good if they didn't have that absurd 5 second cast time, I find I almost always will be interrupted or killed before I get the spell off, and I would do more damage if I had just spammed Thunderbolt/Incinerate/Ice Spear.
The Conjuration spells are actually pretty fun. I could imagine Undead Thrall too be quite strong depending on what enemy you resurrect, but the AI is absolutely retarded. I still use Dremora Lords 95% of the time.
I don't use the Alteration spell mostly because I rarely get hit, and when I do am wearing a shield, and don't really need more damage reduction. I use a lot of ebonyflesh, but that is because again, it doesn't take 5 seconds to cast. It also lasts 3x as long.
I am looking forward to when mods cut that cast animation down to a reasonable length, I want to use those destruction spells.

Damage over time affects them as well, so if they get poisoned or hit by fire and then go down, they will continue to be damaged from it and maybe die.
About 6 levels in to my Assassin character, started the thieves guild (just got the armor), it's been the most fun I've had with the game. I really like the sneaking and the different quests; maybe it's cause I got tired of running up to dudes and smacking them until they die.

I feel conjuration has the best as the destruction ones are not so hot but the permanent pets are pretty great. Dead Thrall is probably my favorite spell in the game, especially combined with Twin Souls. I was hoping for a better long-lasting armor from alteration at master though, like Dragonbone Skin or something.

For anyone that's level 50+, how slow is leveling now? Right now I'm at a point where I'm getting tired of playing my 2-handed barbarian style nord, and I want to experiment with some other styles of game play like sneak, one handed and archery. I don't know if I should just create another character or just change my main to some half assed all around character.

It's really easy if you start using the other skills. As you approach level 45-55 you'll reach a point where it's almost impossible to level up because all the skills you use are level 100 and can't get any higher. However, if you wake up one morning and suddenly start using all the other skills (like switch from block/heavy/one-handed to light/two-handed) it'll take a bit at first, but you'll start leveling up again.

I just maxed out my first skill last night and it was.. sneak! I probably sneak way too much, I don't think I could ever play a non-sneak character anymore

tl;dr:
- npcs don't level at all, their level is locked when you enter their area for the first time.
- when an npc hits low health it falls over like an essential. enemies won't keep attacking, but he/she can still take damage from things like poison, splash attacks, and stray arrows. this is probably why some people think npcs cant die, if you're not a mage, chances are good you won't accidentally hit your companion
also, not listed on the guide, but npcs aren't affected by the difficulty modifier, so if you're playing on master, something that could one shot your companion, would have to be strong enough to one shot you four times over
thanes, in particular, are much more powerful than most companions, so lydia tends to remain viable for a very long time

I had the same thing but was kinda dissapointed with dragon armor, especially heavy variant. Imo it looks best with light body armor variant and rest all heavy dragon armor. I think full ebony looks best thought. ( I hate the red glow on daedra stuff ).

addendum: i read through the discussion page real quick to make sure the info was accurate and it seems that followers are supposed to level up but it's extremely bugged. if you do some stuff with the console, you can get the follower stats set to the level they're supposed to be at.

Would you guys recommend purchasing the Elder Scrolls 1-4 before 5?

On November 24 2011 07:21 Tremor wrote: Would you guys recommend purchasing the Elder Scrolls 1-4 before 5?
No, 1-2 are great games but really oudated now. Morrowind is awesome, but if you can't get past the graphics it might not appeal to you. Oblivion is good, but there really isn't any reason to not just go straight into skyrim. Go back if you feel the need for more after you've played skyrim to death.
