All aspect that made morrowind great were destroyed in oblivion.
False.
All of the problems with Oblivion have been fixed with user mods already.
Even if you don't want to use mods to remove the level scaling and such, Oblivion is still an amazing game in its own right. It's not Morrowind, but it's still amazing.

I liked Oblivion, but the longer I played (even with mods), I realized more and more that this game is not that good. I hope Skyrim will not be that simplifiied.
|
True, Oblivion was simplified, but there are other aspects of the game that made it great, including dialogue, voice acting and graphics.

i really can't wait for this game. although ill have to get it for my xbox and not laptop cause the graphics card in here is crap. oh well i just love oblivion and when i get a new computer ill get for pc yea?

I agree. With the voice acting there was the problem of only being like 5 actors. Almost every person you talk to is a voice that's been head twenty times previously.

I hope Bethesda learned most of their mistakes from Oblivion, like having 5 voice actors for 1 million NPCs, or human/oid models looking simply like shit. Since Skyrim is supposedly gonna run on a new engine, i hope the shitty models would be fixed, at least to the kind of detailed level of Dragon Age.
Also the main story and quests are boring as hell in Oblivion. There was even one point where the game tells you to close down every hellgate in every city in order to have the best chances during the final battle, which is was meant to prolong the game even more.
There were many times that i have the dilemma on whether to walk to a certain location on foot or fast travel on the map; if i walk it would take forever to get to my objective. It i fast travel then i might miss the many caves, mines and tombs scattered along the roads and miss on character leveling and important loot.
Speaking of leveling, the leveling system is completely stupid. Not only are you forced to do the same action over and over again, if i do even a little action that requires character stats that are outside my major stats, then those points would be wasted when i level up. And the monsters leveling up to your level was even more stupid. Not just stupid that you never feel anymore stronger against a simple zombie 10 levels before, it's also stupid because if you built your character wrongly then you'll get pwned by even the lamest enemies in the game.
And the monsters were boring too, and they were too few, both in type and number, and took too long to kill. the Daedroth and the Lich sort of looks cool, but everything else looked drab and unoriginal. And I cant believe there are still Crab Monsters in Oblivion. Bethesda should take a page from Diablo 2 when it comes to designing unique, interesting, and lively monsters.
Oblivion was a game that i really tried to like, but it's many shortcomings was too much for me, and i didn't even finish the game. I hope Bethesda fixes all of this in Skyrim.

totally off topic, but if you check the Music Video at 0:34 you can See a Photo of the Techno Viking in the folder. :D

Specifically about this point, as you leveled in game you won't encounter certain enemies anymore. Not only were they autoleveling with you, but there was a monster leveling list. If you were level 20 and going in your first oblivion gate, you would only encounter antronachs.
The game has a chance to build now. They did some things wrong in oblivion that they can fix, which they couldn't going from morrowind to oblivion. Hopefully they find a balance between Fallouts all talking, and morrowinds all text. I didn't read or listen to all of either. Also I just saw the new trailer with gameplay. The game looks nice. Big improvement over the previous engine (which is OK but getting dated). The more all out they go, the longer they can use it and the more money they save.
I can't wait, looks super awesome!

Reading this made me feel really down, but then I remembered they changed fallout from the 1 2 version to what it is now, and it's pretty enjoyable, so it might not be a change for the worse.

im actually really surprised with all the oblivion hate in this thread. Oblivion was one of my favorite games I've ever played. Damn I played that for hours on end and never wanted to stop. I can not WAITTTTT until Skyrim comes out. They do such a great job with their games it's going to be so good!

you know what i just noticed? the people who post on forms about a game, about 80-85% of the time alll they say is how bad the game is and how bad the ones before it was. just an observation.
personally i think the elder scrolls series is one of the best around that i have played. cant wait for this on to come out.

Honestly vanilla oblivion was NOT a good game...the only good things about it were the thieves guild and assassin guild storylines. Everything else is pretty mediocre at best. But all of its problems are fixed with mods which you at least have to give Bathesda props for in making a game that was so customizable. I don't think anyone in the world would say that a fully modded oblivion is a bad game. As for Skyrim it's a definite must buy. Even if it dissapoints the community will be able to fix it like they did Oblivion :O

To be fair the first time i played oblivion was one of the best experiences i had playing a video game. But after that it was kind of meh from there even after you did a new character class. And yes mods do make the game much more replayable and do "fix" the game so to speak.

Ye first 4-5 hours I thought it was the greatest game ever made but after about the 10 hour mark I was ready to throw it in the trash once all of the problems became too apparent :X

With all this talk of Elder Scrolls Skyrim being announced i've decided to pick Oblivion up off the shelf and get back into it again.

pretty good modlist....to me the must haves are a mod that changes the horrible leveling system (there's a bunch out there whichever u prefer) and obscuro's oblivion overhaul which pretty much changes/improves every aspect of the game. Other than that its personal preference for which areas u want to alter
