This is a worse game than Obilivon and I almost wished I pirated this. Could you elaborate? I find this strange, unless your definition of terrible is referring to something else (could be bug) You don't see the jagged edges despite 8x AA + 16x AF? Water looking like embedded papers with disgusting colors? Swinging your sword and "magically" hit the enemy, running down from the sidewalk only to see both your feet "magically" float in the air?
Come on now, this isn't /v/ and you don't need to prove your gaming credentials by hating on what's new and popular. It doesn't look bad at all, especially not the water. A few slight animation quirks doesn't make the game terrible. Sure the menus suck but that doesn't detract from the awesome game play.

ok all works great but i have 1 issue:
somtimes the textures of walls/floor change from 1 point of view to another, like: walls and floor covered with moss, i take 1 step further and the moss vanishes, i go back and boss is back etc. makes stuff flicker.
ok nevermind, i pinpointed it to AA. I had adaptive multisample AA chosen in my catalyst program, works fine with just multi.

Graphics look good even on low/medium (on my laptop right now ). But holy shit the menus are fkn terrible. Modders will fix of course but bathesda couldve at least tried to make them pc friendly. They were waay better in oblivion instead of this convulted console crap. Only complaint for now but its a pretty big one.

I'm stuck in college with a measly laptop instead of a gaming rig. Intel i5 2.3 gHz processor with an Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics chip and 6 gigs of RAM. The game defaulted to medium, but it was very stuttery so I reduced all the graphics to the bare minimum (except for actor fade, which I bumped up). At these low graphics levels, I'm getting a very respectable and playable framerate yet the game still looks great even on my puny integrated graphics chip. The textures are a bit muddy just because they're on low, but the landscapes and lighting and art design all look phenomenal and breathtaking.
I'm having a blast playing through the game. I'm just about to reach Whiterun before taking a break from the game to read internetz.
The UI isn't too bad and is acceptable once you get used to it. I quickly figured out how to bind weapons to my 1-8 keys, and I actually find the favorites system to be a better system than in previous Fallout and Elder Scrolls games.
Just favorite a weapon or spell to your favorites menu. From the favorites menu, just highlight the desired weapon and tap one of the 1-8 keys to bind it to that hotkey. Because you can have more than 8 weapons or spells in the favorites menu, it's quite easy to just tap the menu's hotkey and quickly rebind all 1-8 hotkeys on the fly. Very convenient compared to previous systems, where I had to go through the entire inventory and spell list to rebind my hotkeys.
I spent a bit of time going through the .ini file to tweak mouse acceleration and FoV. It seemed to be worth the effort, as I'm not getting any noticeable mouse problems. The weird mouse behavior in Skryim takes a bit to get used to, but coming from recently playing Fallout: New Vegas, it's not too hard to habituate myself to it.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the game. The UI problems weren't really as bad as people say they are, and I'm completely used to it. I'm very lucky that my integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 was able to run the game at a respectable framerate, probably because an integrated HD 3000 chip coupled with a Sandy Bridge i3/i5/i7 is not to be underestimated. The game is soooooo fun, and I can see myself playing every waking hour of this weekend.

Thanks. Being a student with a mid-range gaming laptop, I wondered if I would have been able to run the game on lowest, but this was very reassuring.

yeah i dont know whats up with the console menu. I hated oblivion too, is it so hard to put all items in a freaking square so i can drag and drop with my mouse like in morrowind?

Thought so at first too but after 2 points into archery perks and a better bow it got a lot better. Now most things drops with 3 arrows or so. And I agree menus are the worst I have ever seen in a game

Holy shit. The game is looking REALLY good on my pc. Need to make a few changes in my settings and the mod community needs to come up with a new interface menu/hotekeys. But otherwise, the game is fucking great.

I feel so weak with my Kahjit T_T
I am playing on the second difficulty setting ( expert I believe? ) and I get fucking 3 hitted by Banditleaders with their big ass 2hand swords.
And I mean I got 200 hp and a full elven armor set (self crafted and improved) with around 70-80 armor overall. And I just got no fricking chance alone :D
Normal bandits are fine but the leaders are monsters. I have light armor on 30ish and one handed weapons on 41 and I hardly deal any damage to them with my 13dmg steel sword.
Right now I am in that dungeon together with Farkas where you have to prove yourself to the Companions

Not even an exagerration...the menus are literally the worst menus Ive ever seen in a PC game. Nothing is even remotely mouse friendly and its 100% designed for console. I though DA2's were bad but this takes it to a totally new level. Kinda sad considering the level of polish in all other areas.

Never played this series before, but I think I'm going to buy it due to all the hype and slowly play through it in the next couple weeks.
Am I correct in understanding this is a single player campaign (aka it won't have the draw of Diablo 2 where you keep trying to farm good items or level etc.)? I guess you could play through it with multiple characters?

being new to the TES world, i'm playing khajiit.... whats an ideal build? Currently i'm just using sword and board lol

So, I'm having some pretty obnoxious performance issues with a GTX 570 OC'd, and after some research, I pretty much have figured out why.
This game hardly ever utilizes 100% GPU - I'm getting 30 FPS in Riverwood and my GPU is running at 40%. Pretty sure this is due to my meh-worthy CPU, an i5 750. Gonna have to be OCing that soon I guess.
EDIT: Also having problems with lowish sound quality, particularly the music, even after the 44100 HZ sound quality change. Anyone else getting this too?

Can you install Skyrim on more than one computer with just one copy and steam account (effectively letting more than one person play it at the same time?).

You can get a lot of fun out of this series by playing each game several times, for instance blasting through it once as a brawler and then again as an assassin, and you get pretty different playing experiences.

The races don't have that many differences in this game (or ANY at all when it comes to stats; some races get weapon skill bonuses, but in the long run they are negligible), and an "ideal build" is whatever you want to focus on. I wouldn't put too many perks into less useful things at first like Speech and the like, but instead into combat talents. Later on spending perks in auxillary trees is fine, and you'll have the idea of what is useful or not later on.

when you say performance issues, just FPS?
are you running on ultra? I have a i5 750 and gtx 570 as well and i would think this would be more than enough to run on ultra with no problems.

Yes, FPS.
Actually turned quite a bit down from ultra and still having FPS problems. Have you seen how your system handles it yet?

Never played that lol. I've only played Blizzard games (except WoW) and Age of Empires so not that much experience. This looks amazing though. Too bad I have to work and have next to no free time, hopefully I get to run through it during the holidays.
