Decent maybe. But there is no way you can say this isn't a step back from Oblivion, never before have I had to scroll through options rather than just clicking the one I want. Also does anyone know if there is a way to hotkey spells and weapons? Or is the favorites the only thing to work with in quickly switching?

I'm about to hit purchase button, I have one question, do I need to play previous games to enjoy this?
|
There are ini commands to change how the menus behave I think. Havent played around with them at all yet because i dont even fully understand how all the default menu options work.
I figured out how to hotkey equipment setups using favorite list but it seems to bug out depending on what you are swapping to or from.

No, the story lines are completly different.

So..
Has anyone really been able to figure out if dual wielding is actually useful? I was excited at first, but then I realized that you can basically only swing with one of them at a time. So why would you not just always swing with your higher dmg weapon? Which makes the other one pointless, and now you dont have a shield and cant block anything.
I know theres the 2 perks, which increases attck speed and power attack damage, but when its all said and done, that doesnt seem like much of a reason to use it over the other possible combinations. Or am I missing something?

I bought the game today. The same day my Internet goes down without notice and won't be back for the week-end. Went to my university to try to activate the game, but they have blocked steam on their networks. Love my life.

Thank goodness my computer can run this game!
I'm stuck in college with a measly laptop instead of a gaming rig. Intel i5 2.3 gHz processor with an Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics chip and 6 gigs of RAM. The game defaulted to medium, but it was very stuttery so I reduced all the graphics to the bare minimum (except for actor fade, which I bumped up). At these low graphics levels, I'm getting a very respectable and playable framerate yet the game still looks great even on my puny integrated graphics chip. The textures are a bit muddy just because they're on low, but the landscapes and lighting and art design all look phenomenal and breathtaking.
I'm having a blast playing through the game. I'm just about to reach Whiterun before taking a break from the game to read internetz.
The UI isn't too bad and is acceptable once you get used to it. I quickly figured out how to bind weapons to my 1-8 keys, and I actually find the favorites system to be a better system than in previous Fallout and Elder Scrolls games.
Just favorite a weapon or spell to your favorites menu. From the favorites menu, just highlight the desired weapon and tap one of the 1-8 keys to bind it to that hotkey. Because you can have more than 8 weapons or spells in the favorites menu, it's quite easy to just tap the menu's hotkey and quickly rebind all 1-8 hotkeys on the fly. Very convenient compared to previous systems, where I had to go through the entire inventory and spell list to rebind my hotkeys.
I spent a bit of time going through the .ini file to tweak mouse acceleration and FoV. It seemed to be worth the effort, as I'm not getting any noticeable mouse problems. The weird mouse behavior in Skryim takes a bit to get used to, but coming from recently playing Fallout: New Vegas, it's not too hard to habituate myself to it.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the game. The UI problems weren't really as bad as people say they are, and I'm completely used to it. I'm very lucky that my integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 was able to run the game at a respectable framerate, probably because an integrated HD 3000 chip coupled with a Sandy Bridge i3/i5/i7 is not to be underestimated. The game is soooooo fun, and I can see myself playing every waking hour of this weekend.

Does your university block torrents? If not, download a Razor torrent and a crack and enjoy the game.

Played 3 hours now. One of the most overrated games ever. Graphics are terrible (has everything on ultra/max with gtx 580) menus are the worst I've ever seen from a console port (mouse is useless), gameplay is dumbed down even compared to oblivion, story sucks per usual, controls sucks.
This is a worse game than Obilivon and I almost wished I pirated this.

Oblivion had one of the most awful UIs of all fucking time. Sure, this is pretty bad as well, but you're comparing it to Oblivion? Really?
In the end this was to be expected. Just another PC game that was ruined by getting designed solely for console. Fucking bugs/flaws like independent vertical mouse sensitivity make it that much worse. I despise gamepads with a passion but Skyrim is the first game that made me hate mouse/keyboard controls even more.

Yeah, their main goal is to block all torrents I think. Steam just happens to run on the same technology. Appearently you can get Internet from plugging in an iPhone to your laptop but you need iTunes, so downloading that right now. The quest continues.

Well for the record this game plays incredibly on 360. I've put in 5 or so hours since last night and I am having a blast. Pure mage character. Very fragile but very fun.

Btw, I LOVE the new crafting system. It really gives a purpose for collecting random materials from dead creatures, and I think it's a very good replacement for the old repair system. I'm also enjoying the fact that you can run around catching fish and dragonflies and other random shit for cooking and alchemy, though I spent hours in Oblivion running around collecting random plants and herbs and stuff.
Putting baskets and pots onto people's heads is hilarious.
I met this blind guy who was reading a book. I tried reading that book, and all the pages were blank. Hilarious stuff.
The kill-moves makes melee combat much more interesting. IMO, Oblivion's system feels quite boring in comparison to Skyrim's. Seeing my female character knee-kick and stab a wolf like a badass never gets old.

I find this strange, unless your definition of terrible is referring to something else (could be bug) I keep hearing that the textures look muddy even on maxed, though this may be an inherent flaw in the game itself rather than a bug. Apparently, a lot of the textures are of the same resolution as the textures in Oblivion, and I guess that's the sacrifice that has to be made to fit the game onto 6 gigs. However, I'm sure that modders will have a field day releasing high-res texture packs that will make the game look much better.

Also, I found this guide to be quite useful when tweaking my .ini settings. (dunno if it has been posted in this thread yet).
Borrowed from "Dead man posting" on the Something awful forums, All credit goes to him. Reposted here for Reddits pleasure:

Well, the price for skyrim on steam is 49.99€ right now, and yes, i think that steam works for all european regions.

You don't see the jagged edges despite 8x AA + 16x AF? Water looking like embedded papers with disgusting colors? Swinging your sword and "magically" hit the enemy, running down from the sidewalk only to see both your feet "magically" float in the air?
