No i think you can't do that with any game. You need xbox live, xbox doesn't have LAN. But you can play split-screen on 1 xbox though. Then Why do you want 2 xbox just to play split screen
You can do it with lots of other games.
Split screen is 4 people, and then you get another xbox of 4 people and system link those two together for 8 people.
MW2 was actually the first game I played that *wouldn't* allow me to do this (excluding games that have no split screen at all).
MW2 would let you play ~16+ player offline LAN, BUT you would have to have one xbox per person to do it. Xboxes do have LAN.

Ranked servers are like, $14.99 a month, and unranked are $0.99 per slot I believe. You cannot make a Wager Match server, they are all Treyarch servers.
I've been playing a lot more, and I have to say it's pretty good but there are some slight issues, mainly with game performance dropping randomly. Now I don't have the problem overall, only in a few cases:

Otherwise it's pretty smooth, I stay around 70-85FPS (around 100 when I'm in a building) except when I'm viewing large portions of a map, then it dips but never below 30FPS. I'm running a Phenom II x4 @ 3.2GHz, a GTX460 1GB edition, and 4GB of DDR3 RAM (it's clocked at 1066 atm). I have AA, shadows, and VSync (it's on by default) turned off and I'm running at 1680x1050.
It's problematic that the framerate is so inconsistent, but it's overall playable for me.
Also Killcams are jacked up for some reason too. Extreme lag in Killcam, and game-winning cam too.
The game itself is very good. I really love the FAMAS and Enfield so far, but I have too much money accrued and I need a new gun. The game economy works out really nicely, because it doesn't make the game a grindfest; you really spend more time worried about playing the game then getting the next unlock. The only thing you unlock are more features for customizing your avatar and guns in the store. Leveling seems pretty quick too.
Seems like 95% of the servers are just fucking terrible right now. I landed in a good one and finally got to use my 11 kill streaks. You can fly the chopper gunner now which is pretty sick. games not bad if it doesnt lag like shit
Good game, enjoying it so far. I don't understand what all the complaining is about. It is a new game, not MW2.5/3. Just because it says Call of Duty on the box does not mean it is a reskinned version of the old ones. Why would you want to pay $60 for the same game over and over?
I wish guns would actually have some recoil. The zero-recoil a la MW2 is extremely horrible, just full auto on whatever you see no matter what distance.... really dumbs down the game.

I'm not sure what you're talking about.
Aside from the ACR / FAMAS, the guns are all pretty jumpy. It means you can mow down people in the open with a good burst, but you still need to tap tap tap to kill ranged targets consistently, and it means that snipers need to behave.
I have to say, the fact that the shotguns are primaries ENRAGES me. They are complete and utter shit, and I have no idea why Treyarch thought they were okay. Instead of boss secondaries like MW2, or monstrous primaries a la the rainbow six series, shotguns are bargin bin garbage - a sort of "Fuck you noob" weapon for very strong players to demonstrate just how fucking awesome they are by succeeding in spite of the hideous limitations of the weapons.
I have it on PS3 until I can find a super cheap copy on black friday like I did with L4D2. So, on a gameplay basis, I find the game to be one of the most fun FPS I've played in a long time.

if you go back in the thread and watch my posts, gameservers (which they force you to use) is easily one of the worst server host out there.
those are not dedicated servers, those are servers you pay to get SOME control over them.

consoles are terrible for fps games. No matter what you say, this has been proven tons of times.
also if pc sucks why are you using one right now? go back to your console and use your cell phone for internet.
Quickscoping overnerf means you can't really use sniper rifles anymore. I don't even want to buy this game anymore.

Well I can definitely see how console players would run around abusing the auto-aim with scoping in on everything that moves but getting nice quick scopes was one of my favorite things in cod4, Its kinda sad they wont really have it as much anymore.
