Debt would stretch him quite thin mana wise. Just seems weird that the Ghast isn't doing bigger things. Also, needs some kind of card draw to keep your hand stocked.

Edit:

Also looking at your land count, Ghast wouldn't be generating game-ending mana that often with Mind Grind meaning you'll probably need multiple Mind Grinds. Then you'll need something against aggro decks of any flavor.

Whats your plan? The Crypt Ghast seems largely unimportant, yes Mind Grind is there but that's 4 cards for 3 cards.

The plan is the problem. I had an earlier version that pushed more of the "X cards until X lands" and went for a decking, but obviously that's a unreliable way to win.

I was thinking of even the Omniscience/Enter The Infinite combo on T5 but that seems too hard to put together on a reliable basis.

For clarity here is the very first version I tried. Might provide some insight to my original thinking.

Like I said, what's your plan? You have 2 plans right now that only play mildly with each other. You either go big with the with the RealmGhast engine or you go for a more controlling grind it out UB control deck with mill as a win-con. Pick one and build around it.

Realmghast engine would be the main focus. Any suggestions with that in mind?

acquiring cards is a giant pain in the ass if it's just cheap common stuff to build a pauper deck with the bots and the whole ticket/credit thing.

i know that you can lookup single cards on mtgolibrary and it tells you which bot running their software sells/buys that card and the price, is there something similar for decks instead of single cards?

I'm pretty sure that one of my Modern decks is cheaper than some of the popular Standard decks right now. And I can think of several more I could build that are cheaper than most standard decks. Pauper isn't the only non-rotating format you can try!

Not sure exactly about MtGO prices, but they should be in line with Paper prices.

Forbidden Alchemy gives you a card that digs for answers/threats and mill yourself at the same time. Tribute to Hunger is a way to deal with hexproof stuff like Geist of Saint Traft. Runechanter's Pike takes more advantage of the graveyard to power up guys and kill people. Liliana of the Veil is also super great, but probably too expensive to run in something like this, although Jace, Architect of Thought is another decent possibility.

I'm also super tempted to recommend a full White splash for Lingering Souls and Moorland Haunt for even more card advantage. Plus you get flying evasive bodies too to equip Runechanter's Pike to. The mana fixing right now in Standard is good enough you may as well run a proper tri-colour deck if you can afford it.

You get blown out by Rest in Peace and other Graveyard hate so maybe run some permission so you don't have to deal with that.

So yeah. That's what I think. I don't really follow Standard so ymmv with this.

I don't play much (any?) black, so I can't comment too much, but I really dislike warped physique in a deck with *no* card draw. Sure, early game you can handle the threats, but later on it's just not going to do anything for you. Dead weight or tragic slip would probably both work better if the -x/-x is what you're going for, or victim of night hits just about everything otherwise.

You would be playing a grixis deck if I had it my way. In your colors, you really dont got much because milling is such a delicate dance since it doesnt actually impact the board. There are really no good X spells in UB, so I would actually go creaures, Griselbrand comes to mind as does cards like Lord of the Void.

Aren't there black creatures on the board who are very much affected by milling? The more creatures/cards/etc in an opponents graveyard, the stronger they become (just as an example).

Just fyi I am not attached to a mill win condition. In fact the thing that it was based on milling is why I think I need to change it, as I have played forever and I know those decks normally end up sucking.

I just think the Realmwright/Crypt Ghast is a cool mana combo, just need things to put the mana into....

Why use realmwright when you can use Chromatic Latern? Not only is it hard to remove, it's a ramp spell that achieves the same goal.

Griselbrand almost feels like a must.

Chromatic Lantern doesn't turn lands into swamps.

Honestly though, it doesn't seem like Realmwright is needed at all. With only 13-14 swamps, you can ramp from 4 to 8 reliably. You probably don't need much more than that.

No but it lets you do mucc more abusable things, even with Crypt ghast. See Travis Woo.

What are you guys running in Modern atm?

I'm playing UWR - the control variant with Snapcasters as the only creatures and Batterskull out of the board - and doing pretty well with it in my local meta.
Also playing a Junk deck with DRS and Birds of Paradise ramping into turn two Liliana, Smiter, Knight of the Reliquary and Finks with PTE and then Sigarda topping out. Having fun with this one too.

My LGS hasn't started running bigger Modern tournies yet but they are gonna start soon with the release of MM.

Affinity all the way baby! Super fun and interesting to play. Actually, I enjoy modern a lot. My LGS was running like one a month but June has 3 already scheduled so I guess the format is starting to kick in here.

Also, question for you guys. I've started to build up a Jund block deck (decent but that's it) because I really wanted to play Jund and standard was a bit too expensive. After the rotation, I'm probably going to invest a bit more into it to try to make it competitive in standard. What are the cards I should really try to invest into in the RTR block and M14 before they spike up in price?

Lands, not sure if Jund will be a deck or rather the same deck after rotation, it's losing some quality cards. I feel like it's going to be very much like Pod when that rotation happened.

Edit:

I should predicate this on what is shown so far in the M14 spoilers, obviously Theros can change that. The safe investment right now are lands from RtR block and in M14 lands (if there are any).

Where do you start to build a UWR modern deck? I run UWR control in standard right now, but modern just has SO MUCH SHIT to try and learn.

UWR in modern is pretty simple. For creatures you have snapcaster, geist, resto angel, vendillion clique and recently a UWR deck with lightning angels did well at GP Portland. Then you just have all the best removal and counter like path, helix, lightning bolt, electorlyze, remand, mana leak, spellsnare, cryptic command and supreme verdict. It's just figuring out the numbers on everything. Recently though the more controlling version with just snapcasters and then some PWs has been putting up good results on MTGO.

Completely lost interest after Reynad stopped streaming.

Sure, the guy was a diva, but the only one who displayed any flare of intellect in drafting.

It's too bad, format lends itself well to streaming.
