Don't they only give you 1 pack of M13 cards? I don't think that is going to make or break your ability to collect cards/make decks, either way you will need to invest more $ in to the game if you want to play something besides planeswalker mode and the free phantom limited events.

there are free events? 0.o

They used to give you a phantom event for signing up for awhile. Idk if they still do it or not. http://www.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/other/07242012d

When I signed up, it came with 4 new player phantom tickets and 2 event tickets. One of each gives you entry into the new player phantom sealed/draft events, which are limited to 4 players and have payout only for 1st place. Low pay, but low entry fee as well and it's typically pretty easy competition.

So Ratchet Bomb reprinted in M14, not sure how I feel about this...feel like all the 2drops.dec took a hit.

I still don't quite know how the 2 drop deck plays out but ratchet bomb kinda slow isn't it? Also sure they all die, just can't you still get tons of blood artist triggers and just bring em back again?

Talking about burning trees. Blood Artist decks, not sure, guess it's another thing to be aware of.

Why would you be worried about Blood Artist? Doesn't it rotate when this takes effect?

It will stay in for a few months, when Innistrad rotates out, then M13 will. So M13 and M14 have overlap time. Unless they changed this too,

Ratchet bomb kills voice of resurgence and wurm tokens. Probably relevant for all those people that try to copy pro tour winning deck lists and tweak them for standard.

So instead of casting Augur of Bolas/Farseek (sure, they rotate, but I'm sure we have some other rampant growth effect/defensive creature) on turn 2, you cast ratchet bomb, spend turns 2 and 3 ticking it up and blow it turn 4 when you would have cast some other sweeper? You can even jam Gaze of Granite off of a Farseek/Arbor Elf. I suppose you get a 4 drop, but is it really better than ramping into a turn 3 4-drop?

You also hope that they don't have artifact removal on turn 3, prevent you from popping the bomb and just kill you.

Augur is ass, the more I play with it, the more I hate it. The inconsistency is terrible for the decks that need consistency when your effective clock is like 3 turns. It's terrible against all the 2 drops and even more so if they have Ghor-Clans. It's one thing if you have Sphinx's in your deck, but SR isn't even that good right now, so there's like 0 incentive to run that card. Nobody ever ran Augurs to fetch Charms/Twices.

Agree with the Farseek though.

Ratchet Bomb is just better than Augur simply because Augur doesn't do anything of value sadly. I had 4 in my BUG, went to 0 as of now. Just ain't worth it.

Judicator, I'm interested in how you built your BUG list if you don't mind sharing it.

I am somewhat torn between 2 lists I feel quite content playing with. The 1st list goes for the milling wincon with x3 drownyard and x1 Jace, backed up with large suite of removals. The 2nd list goes for the aetherling/progenitor beatdown, with more counters/plasma capture, x2 deadbridge chant, more snapcasters, and x3 forbidden alchemy for dig.

The 1st list is great against most matchups, but I find it really weak against planeswalkers; if i don't have a counter in hand for it, the only way i can take care of it is with the x2 gaze of granites for 7cmc+. I've played UWR tempo decks who would opt to go for ulti on Ral Zarek because of how helpless I am against PWs.

The 2nd list does very well against midrange/jund (love aetherling), but i hate forbidden alchemy against aggro. Having to dig for an answer while tanking my life total below 10 is such a depressing scenario.

I had originally dedicated 1-2 negates and a dispel against control matchups, but am considering packing more removal/vraska since literally no one is playing esper/sphinxes these days. Planning to test more with barter in blood and RtR Jace.

I will post the 2 lists later tonight when I get home if I am not too tired.

I am planning on buy one of THESES for my girlfriends birthday. My question is what cards and how many cards come in the "Selesnya Guild Packs with Grove of the Guardians Promo"? I know it comes with 5 RtR boosted but what is inside the pre-made pack and how many cards come in it?

15 cards and a guildgate. It's the same as a regular pack only all the cards are Selesnya.

I play Syncopates and against UWR, I don't tap out early on. Ral isn't a big deal unless they just run it out there which most players do not.

The aggro match up is a problem in general, but I board in Tree of Redemption and that usually stops them for me to catch a breath.

Okay you guys may be sick and tired of answering this.

How would I get started in MTGO? What do I start with, how much would it cost? What is this ticket system thing?

In that case, compare to Azorius Charm, which is basically the other 2 drop. Having played Augur in some lists, its ability was paraphrased to 'look at the bottom 3 cards of your library,' but I was not sure if it was just not playing the right lists that caused it to fail so often..

I just don't see ratchet bomb being better than a Verdict against 2-drops. It's fine against Advent/Voice tokens, but those are the more midrange decks.

it's $10 to open an account, gives you some minimal stuff. Basically you can buy cards and play standard, or you can buy packs and tickets to play drafts etc. Event tickets or tix or w/e people call em are $1 and are used to enter events / trade for packs and generally are just used as currency.

There's some pretty fun formats that are only reasonably playable on MTGO, like cube drafts, momir basic, and pauper tournies
