So whats the verdict? Cockatrice or just play with some free commons on MTGO? If you don't want to pay and still want to test decks, Cockatrice or MWS is basically your only options. There aren't that many decks you can test with just commons, unless you're into that sort of a format that is.

I want to start playing online, but quite frankly I don't want to get yelled at online because of slight rule violations and such. Should I just bite thebullet and play on Cockatrice? Or should I spend some money on MTGO? I don't want to buy digital cards. It's a silly idea to me. Is there a way I can get cards for free on there? me and my friends use a comboination of skype and mws for playtesting online

You might want to check out classicquarter.com, they are the only MTGO eternal community I know of. I personally haven't had a chance to pick up a legacy deck yet, was planning on grabbing forces two years ago but didn't, and now the prices on MTGO are pretty crazy for force/wasteland. I played affinity in a few events after tezz came out but it was... unspectacular.

Yeah Primeval Titans will probably depict the format now, but It can't be as bad as Jaces are, I see a lot of people wanting to try BG pod and other midrangy decks now and I have a feeling they will be let down hard when Titan crushes them

I think the puresteel deck has a VERY good chance of being a strong contender now in standard. Just going to have to play with it.

Thinking about pouring about 100 onto it if it is worth it now that jace is banned.

I was about 1900 rating before i stopped. How is the standard format right now and how is drafting online. Any advice how to get started back into MTGO? Thinking about pouring about 100 onto it if it is worth it now that jace is banned. If you're gunna play standard wait till after the banlist goes into effect, or build a deck not effected by it. Scars draft is pretty fun, and MODO is pretty awesome for drafting if you got the money to sink and don't have a shop near by. 1900 means you should know power of the cards so I don't really need to tell you to draft X deck all the time, but rare drafting is rather in effecient in scars draft. Except swords and batterskull. That shits nuts.

Also which deck is one of the cheapest to build? we won't know too much about standard for a few weeks cause the format is going to be MASSIVELY changed on July 1st, the best 2 cards in the format have been banned. Valakut looks to be pretty strong, and is probably going to be pretty darn powerful, but other than that, it's a brand new format pretty much.

You can get that entire deck for 2-3 tickets from bulkbots and it's competitive (though not"the best") in standard. You'll have a lot of trouble with monoblack decks running lots of removal + Sheoldred/Obliterator, but with Caw-blade and Darkblade gone it goes way up in usefulness. Although on my decklist, I ran "Act of Treason" over Forked Bolt on the sideboard for that very reason.

The real thing that makes me sad is that these bans just crushed my M12 dreams of a mythical 12 Jace deck. TRUE POWER. edit: UB Tezzeret control still seems relatively legit. Dunno if replacing 4 JtMS with 4 JaceB or whatever is going to cut it.

Also which deck is one of the cheapest to build? Standard is always going to be fairly expensive to get into if you want to be competitive. Every deck is going to need at least a few $10+ cards. That said, BR vampires is pretty cheap as it is mostly commons and uncommons. Bloodghasts, Highborns and the duals/fetches are the most expensive cards that I can think of in the deck; the vamps and duals are like ~$3-5ish depending on where you look, the fetches are like $10ish or so? Pretty cheap deck to put together and it is a fast aggro deck with reach, which will be good in the upcoming weeks where people are playing untuned lists. Goblins or burn-heavy mono-red lists are also fairly cheap and can get people. Goblin Guide is kinda pricey compared to the rest of the deck but not a wallet breaker. Pretty much if you want to start getting into Standard now but don't want to lose out on a big investment with the rotation coming up in a few months, some kind of mono-color aggro deck is probably your best bet.
