I suspect this isn't the point of this thread though, I just saw that and got all defensive all of a sudden.

Spellskite makes each trigger only deal 2 damage, or drain a blue mana, gives you a chance to kill the titan. Not to mention the aggro decks all got much faster and can easily kill before the turn 5 kill Valakut puts out. Splinter Twin is a full turn faster too, and if Valakut skips ramp to hold up hate then Splinter Twin can delay its combo to get counter protection. I suspect this isn't the point of this thread though, I just saw that and got all defensive all of a sudden. I don't see Spellskite being that good vs Valakut at all to be honest, and their are plenty of answers. Also splinter turn's consistency has been hurt a lot with the loss of Jace the Mindsculptor, I guess they get Foresee instead, but.. one of the good things about Jace vs Valakut was fateseal was so powerful against them, you lose that option now. Valakut has plenty of sideboard options vs splinter, don't see how that deck will keep them out of the format.

It already happened, the tourney recap is up http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/gpkan11/welcome It's also worth it to say that no matter what happens, M2012 is coming out in a couple of weeks, and Zendikar as a whole is set to rotate out in a couple months...I doubt the metagame will have time to stabilize after the loss of such powerful cards in such a short time. Big Red is still good, Valakut is still good, mono black is still good, and Tempered Steel is still good.

Greg Jolin, AKA the guy who lost in the quarterfinals because no one realized an obscure rule was being violated. I contribute draft videos to draftmagic.com and will be writing up a tournament report for that site if anyone is interested. Philadelphia will be the first Pro Tour for me since Hollywood '08, so I'm pretty excited.

The rule that was violated was that you can't sacrifice a permanent you don't control. So when my opponent moved his Grafted Exoskeleton from the Tangle Angler I had stolen, the Tangle Angler was actually not supposed to be sacrificed. With an extra blocker, I would have survived the last turn and won on my own turn. Note that I don't blame anyone for this happening. I didn't know the rule, but it's not something that comes up very often, so I'm not mad at myself for not knowing it. I'm not mad at my opponent because I'm very confident he didn't know it (if he did know, it would be cheating). It's just kind of something that happened, and you shrug and move on.

From Gatherer: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=209045 "If Grafted Exoskeleton's last ability triggers, but you don't control the permanent it became unattached from at the time that ability resolves (perhaps because another player has somehow gained control of it), you won't be able to sacrifice it." So you were right. I would have made the same call as the judge in that case, but I would have been just as wrong. Sucks bro, sorry ![]()

I've been looking for a way to play this (very interesting) game without any financial commitment haha. When I play games like this I like to explore a ton of options, so MTG really ain't the sort of game my wallet can handle haha
