The main reason One Thousand Lashes isn't that good is that it simply isn't efficient enough. If I remember correctly, there was a similar card called Pillory of the Sleepless in the original Ravnica block that did the same thing for 3 mana, and that was a very playable card.

Basically, you can expect to get certain things in certain colors for certain costs.

In W/B, for 2 mana, I expect to have a good removal spell. (Devour Flesh, Ultimate Price)
For 3 mana, I expect to be able to take out not just a creature, but any non-land permanent bugging me. (Oblivion Ring, Detention Sphere if you're running Blue. This is also why Murder isn't typically run in Constructed.)
For 4 mana, most of the time in Standard I would expect to be able to kill every creature on the battlefield, with Wrath of God / Day of Judgement, but we only have Supreme Verdict in this format.

Basically, if I have four mana, it's more effective against an aggressive / midrange deck to destroy everything on the field rather than shut down one creature and start slowly taking away life from the opponent. At 3 mana, it would be much more likely to be worth it against heavy creature decks.
<@Wikt> so you are one of those nega-fans <@Wikt> that hates the company that makes a game and everything they stand for <@Wikt> but still plays the game <@Wikt> (like roughly 30% of blizzard's player base, maybe much more...)

I was going to yell at you for being bad but then I realized you're talking about constructed.

Stupid constructed.

DII draft, getting cut hard for literally no reason. See a chalice of life about to wheel, look at my pack with a thought scour, go all in on self-mill. End up with 4 gnaw to the bone and a pike, win every g1 with flipped chalice and every g2/3 with pike on random dude for 8+. Also a game where I sided in a bunch of ghoulcallers bells up to like 45 cards and milled my opponent out VERY slowly.

For the record: Pillory did not stop active abilities. That's why it's 1 mana more.

Went to my 2nd draft since like 1998 tonight, going in I planned to force Boros due to it completely dominating the top 8 during last week's draft and pre-release event. Ended up with a less than optimal deck with a relatively high mana curve (no 1drops v_v) but the deck ran well and I made top 8 anyways, should have made top 4 but I made a few big mistakes on when to use act of treason to trigger battalion.

I very much prefer orzhov and gruul in draft compared to sealed where boros was easily king.

People need to stop fighting over boros.

I had a draft online today where my first 3 pulls were Crypt Ghast, Godless Shrine, Crypt Ghast.
We do what we must, because we can.

I've seen a monoblack list running around my local store running crypt ghast to ramp into griselbrand. it's quite fun to watch vs aggro decks when its hits and they dont have an answer. I don't know what else it played besides Nighthawks but I would definitely give it a try if I knew the list.

If the meta swings towards giant creatures, it's definitely a sideboard option for low curve red decks. You saw Traitorous Blood in sideboards when Thragtusk/Angel of Serenity was the big thing.

Anyone try one of those "going infinite" guides for mtgo? I'm finally gonna break down after all these year and make an mtgo account. Tips, advice and deck loans for a newb to mtgo is welcome as well.

I'm pretty sure that, for the forseeable future as it has been for the recent past, if your decklist contains double digits of swamps you are doing something very, very wrong.

This one works pretty well. http://www.starcitygames.com/article/25408_Beginners-Guide-To-Going-Infinite-On-Magic-Online.html

You can ignore the whole "Momir until 100 tickets" thing though. You can go infinite on around 30-50 tix depending on play skill and luck with your initial dailies if you play Pauper and pick the right deck. Mono-Green Stompy is very cheap and very powerful, so I'd go with that. Play a lot in the Tournament Practice room first, it's a surprisingly deep format, and Stompy has a lot of interactions to master. It's aggressive, but not an easy deck to pilot at first.
<@Wikt> so you are one of those nega-fans <@Wikt> that hates the company that makes a game and everything they stand for <@Wikt> but still plays the game <@Wikt> (like roughly 30% of blizzard's player base, maybe much more...)
