I don't think that's a big deal for Modern Pod decks. Naya pod with Blue for Exarch matches up very well vs Jund.

That's not the deck I'm talking about, I'm talking about the 5 clone build with Wurmcoil, Elesh, and Sun Titan at the high end. The wall of omens, Sea gate oracle route.

Oh, errrr I have never played that but it seems too slow. Grindy for value is okay, but it doesn't seem like its good enough. What's your ideal chain? Solemn(???)->Mulldrifter or Slime->Titan or Engine->Elesh? Any Image in there adds great value but yeah, I think it's too slow.

It's just pointless, why Pod for things like that when you can just win on the spot? It's much too slow with a format of Jund and combo. Fun things though, Pod is always fun.
Traded for ten thundermaws and 104 snapcaster mages. yussss Who was the person in this thread that had a friend that hoarded Snapcasters at the cost of other cards?
New cards were spoiled, some fun cards and some serious cards. Soul Ransom seems interesting 4 mana control magic with effectively cycling? Seems pretty good.

Also, part of the problem with a Bant Pod list for Modern is that it won't play well against the Aggro decks in Modern: Boggle Infect and Affinity before the board. It's probably a decent match up against Jund but other Pod lists and Combo(scapeshift, storm) will be troublesome.
Edit: I think it'd smoke RDW and Tron though.

That's nowhere near what that card is. It's a punisher mechanic, you control their creature until they decided to discard 2 and let you draw 2. So it's not going to save you if you really need it, they won't pay if it doesn't matter, and if you're ahead it doesn't actually close out the game as they CAN pay for it if they need to, and at instant speed no less.

You are correct, somehow I inserted creature into Soul Ransom's rules text.
I am not sure if it's still that bad in some match ups. You still take the their biggest/best creature and just attack with it only.

It doesn't get haste, they can just discard 2 on your end step (after you spent 4 mana) and get it back and swing with it.
Sure, it's 4 mana for Divination + Mind Rot, but if you're getting beat down, that's not really the card you need.

yah the card screams value but unless you are already ahead, you'll rarely want it. On a separate yet related note, I am really enjoying the spoilers. I think gtc is shaping up to be a great set, I thought rtr was really good to come back to, enjoyed playing it quite a bit. Still finding new approaches to limited decks, decided to play sealed recently building a rakdos deck that pretty much had only creatures along with something like one stabwound, everything haste, tons of 3-4-5 drops, with me dropping a massive beater pretty much every turn. The pressure just destroyed so many decks, surprised me, to be honest. Also, elecktrickery is a great SB card for limited. Never really appreciated it enough, pretty common to 2 for 1
|
Oh if you are in certain match ups there are no ways this comes in, but against others 4 cards of card eco isn't insignificant. Still falls into the giving your opponent lines, but at least you net some cards in the process.
Also, why do they have to print Gruul Charm, like I was all ready to pick up Esper and then I see that.
|
Oh I thought the creature enchanted by Soul Ransom also died lol. I was like wtf people think this is bad???
|
Really liking gruul more and more with each additional spoiler

What would be a cheap, but competively viable deck in standart?

A few days ago a buddy with 0 magic experience bought a $40 Ravnica box, and traded commons and uncommons with us to build a rakdos deck that completely wrecked (with our help of course). Launch Parties, cacklers, Bloodfrays, and he pulled a Hellkite.
|
"cheap" is relative when you're talking something like 2 Thundermaw Hellkites and 4 Hellriders. RDW doesn't need to spend a lot of money on the manabase, but it still costs a bunch of money.
That buddy's deck, do you mean Utvara Hellkite, or did he open something like a Jace that he traded for a Thundermaw? In any case, stuff like Launch Party doesn't seem viable in competitive standard. Utvara certainly is not.

So apparently, Hexproof was a bad enough of an idea that the hose card is completely unsubtle about it. Hrm. At least this is a nice sideboard card for anyone whose Modern meta is full of boggles lol

Also, Gruul Charm is such a weird. Take control of permanents you own, wut.

I could see using gruul charm to counter my opponent's attempt to push for game with conscripts or whatever threaten effect... otherwise the effect is more of an edh tool against blue and black decks
Also I've been waiting for wizards to crack and print a card that can target hexproof dudes, but that card seems a bit narrow lol

More than that, the fact that they're pushing hexproof alongside printing this card just shows how much they want to create chase rares. And Gruul Charm is good against control magic and spells that create tokens for your opponent like the RAV Hunted cycle.
