RDW doesn't need to spend a lot of money on the manabase, but it still costs a bunch of money. You don't need thundermaws if you are on a budget. Though most 4-0 daily and tournament RDW decks run thudermaws, you can build your deck around not having them. Though, the 4 hellriders is a must and that can still be pretty pricey.

Really hate hexproof mechanic so counterintuitive
Also on the topic of rdw I made a deck out of left overs and side deck options for roughly 18$ and gotten top 8s in 40man fnms

there goes invisible stalker cipher.
feels awesome

The issue with hexproof is not that it exists, it's that they undercosted the creatures they stapled it to. I mean, Invisible Stalker is a pretty good creature in the right deck. They also stapled it to creatures that probably didn't need said protection (ie., Geist of Saint Traft)

Also, Gruul Charm is such a weird. Take control of permanents you own, wut.
No, I can see that being useful. Cards like Switcheroo and shenanigans that involve stealing/trading permanents could either help you combo with the Charm or save you from an opponent who's doing it to you. Wish it didn't have green in the mana cost; I know it's supposed to be there because it's Gruul, but I want it put in a non-green deck of mine.

Like if Geist had protection from black and protection from red, it would be fine or even shroud, but nope it has to be hexproof.
Anyways, Hexproof in itself is a bad mechanic to spread around, there are no other ways to balance one sided mechanics like that other than to either one-up it or to introduce these niche ass cards that need some retarded shit stapled on it to make it less niche.

Yeah, maybe i was a bit unclear when i asked. I meant to ask that what would be the cheapest competively viable deck and the price of RDW is not too high for my budget.(without the thundermaws) So thanks for the help!

Hexproof is a stupid mechanic. It was fine on troll when it wasn't keyworded and somewhat unique but became stupid when it became the default and replaced everything that would've been shroud otherwise
|
It's not that awful, even on Thrun, the Last Troll, it was just okay. But you'd be stupid to not acknowledge the huge influence Geist of St. Traft has had on the last two Standard environments that he and his angel have been in. It's also sort of repressive in a design sense, if you consider that Geist as he is is so much better than if he was a 3/3 First Strike without Hexproof, it's sort of bizarre.

what would you guys choose?

stab wound seems weird to splash in, and maybe street spasm is the wrong choice here..and i'd love to have a cancel but i can use rootborn over that i suppose.

My bad meant brw zombies debating if its worth keepin the zombie pack or if there is going to be good enough options to drop them

Oof. Geez, this is why I hate Ravnica drafts, there's like no remorse when it comes to mana.
EDIT: You absolutely can not play the Cancel without addressing the fact that you'd be playing an RR, WW and UU card at 3. dooontttt dooo itttttt

lost first match to cyclonic rift, then we stalemated for like 10 turns until i drew a mountain, slammed teleportal, and i ended up boarding in cancel for his rift, he plays it and i cancel--only to get izzet charmed in response, but luckily i had 2 untapped mana. score.

I made a bunch of vids today with me drafting RTR 8-4. If you like to watch noobs get raped then give it a try!
I am the noob in all of these videos btw I feel like I'm ok at drafting but I suck at playing and I suck at using MTGO.

any of you guys into classic pauper?
|
I don't think it's really possible for an aggro deck to run something that doesn't contain R/W anymore, they're just gonna lose to other aggro decks that have Spark Trooper in the main/side. I don't see how that card is just beatable in any kind of race.
For those who don't know:
Unexpected results looks like an amazing commander card <3
Also, I do play pauper, I have a WW deck but haven't updated it since M13 so I'd have to go back through the commons. Might consider stuff like Attended Knight.
|
You mean War Falcon for WW pauper, makes that deck so much more aggressive.
Not sure why you think Spark Trooper is a commander card.
As for Spark Trooper, it's still 1 toughness so it not a total wash.

It's not a commander card, Unexpected Results is. Spark Trooper is a card that breaks aggro mirrors. May force red decks to start running Geistflame at least in the sideboard.
War Falcon is something that I'm never going to play because there's way too many X/1 removal spells in the format and you have no card advantage so you lose to getting 1 for 1'd by control decks all the time.
