Even if the PvP in GW2 is nowhere near the same level at launch, I hope we can convince Anet to give us *somthing* after they are done with the carebear stuff ![]()

Actually there is, Beta testing is expected to occur sometime in 2011 according to the Guild Wars 2 FAQ. Been waiting for Gw2 for 5+ years, and it does not look like a disappointment ![]()

If anything, this is just taking their template for structured PvP from GW1 and expanding on it with the new features in GW2? Also, how can it be a carbon copy of WoW if the combat system for both games is so drastically different? I actually thought it looked nothing like PvP from GW1 (and I've played thousand of GvG's in Top-50 Guilds) and although I think GW2 is gonna be awesome, expecially for PvP, I kinda question certain decision: - I don't know how PvP with 8v8 players etc. will differ from 5v5, but 5v5 was essentially only "capture-the-point", which is a bit weird compared to GW1, where you had to hold the flagstand and constantly get the flag, you where also able to win by killing off NPC's and maybe later gank the GuildLord, you could just win by overrunning the other team at the Flagstand and many Maps had their own little special features like points you could hold for certain bonuses etc. - I really like the new action-oriented gameplay, but what really leaves me with a tear in my eyes is the decision not to have a designated healer, not to have interrupts and to take out body-blocking. - Also, the decision to cut out interrupts, mana in general and Hexes really makes me wonder how for example a class like the Mesmer could even work (which is the class that is often speculated to be the last one thats gonna be revealed, or at least sth. similar to the mesmer). But as I've said, I guess the extremely cool new gameplay, which will require a lot more skill, speed and precision than other MMO's will most likely make up for a lot of stuff I've mentioned above.

In the video they say there is a second pvp format, world v world (sounds sorta like tombs but extended to more areas to me). That said, by far the best part of gw and the only thing that kept me playing as long as I did was the community aspect of it. Getting a guild together, having your regular guest list and knowing which classes they could each play, and especially getting into your roles in gvg knowing what things people can take care of without being told; that was what made it fun. I still remember some epic come from behind wins and trolling pug groups (all /A tele bars or 4 derv aoe spam back when that was so fucking broken). I can't see how this will really last without some kind of gvg, and this 5v5 thing feels like it is less about working together as a group.

THe developer confirmed that they are in alpha fase right now. Closed beta will be in 2011. Open Beta depends on when the closed beta is done. Release date depends on when the Open Beta is done. They don't want to give it a timefame, since they wan't to apply improvements. http://www.youtube.com/bluexephos#p/u/2/7r_oAx7zg98

One thing I was wondering about is: If I play alone and want do join "hot joins" is there any matchmaking (and maybe rating for players) done at all? It's always more fun to play with people on your own skill level. That's why I love SC2 ladder. I can watch the pros but I don't have to fear that I won't be able to play like that because I am always playing with people on my own skill level so it doesn't matter that there are people 10 times better than me since I won't be playing with them.

It's still in alpha, you should have seen WoW alpha... oh boy, it had _nothing_. WoW beta was far less polished than GW2 alpha. If you don't like something, give arenanet feedback.

While some may be easier to follow for laymans (mostly fighting games), you won't really understand what's going on if you're not familiar with the small details that make things epic but remain unknown/unseen for outsiders. Splitting hairs here. Yes, it will be difficult to appreciate the intricacies of any game. That's not the point. The point is, can the game be enjoyable to observers without knowing those details, or will the game just look like people running around and attacking or casting spells? Even within fighting games there are some that are easier to follow for a casual player. For instance, I have trouble following the Marvel vs Capcom type of fighting game since there is just so much going on and so much switching in the same round. With fighting games like SF and Tekken, I find it much easier to follow. I certainly do not play either game at a highly competitive level, but I can follow what's basically going on despite never playing the character, or even knowing the details of what they are doing (for reference, the last SF2 game I've owned and played a lot is SSF2 on SNES). Also, with SC:BW and to a lesser degree SC2, again I am nowhere near a competitive level. However, as many casual players of the game can agree, it is a lot of fun to watch. Even to someone who has barely played the game, they have an intuitive feeling for when something is happening that can turn the tide of the battle. A simple example is when you see a zerg player with mostly workers and some defense at the natural, and a dropship comes into the main. It's easy to tell the zerg player is in a tough spot, which brings tension to the viewers. They may not understand everything involved to keep the macro and micro on a high level, but the general picture is exciting and understandable emotionally.
